Hello, nairalanders. I an Dada Eniola, blogger and content writer. I hope this piece makes front page because I would love to reach many people as I can... especially our Nigerian parents. Read and enjoy!
The Nigerian mentality is actually a very dangerous thing. It is exhibited by most of Nigerian parents and that's what makes them "typical Nigerian parents".
However, some youths have also been exhibiting this trait and it's more of a setback for the nation than it is a way forward.

I got inspired to write this post through the wema bank seminar I attended for the student of the faculty of science, Unilag (which I happened to be among). The CEO of wema bank spoke to us and gave some of the key points most Nigerian parents don't actually give to their children.

Before we dive further, let me take you through a very brief history of how he got to where he is today (MD/CEO, WEMA BANK).

He graduated from secondary school as a division 1 student (distinction). He grew up with his uncle in Lagos who happened to sponsor his education. He was aspiring to study pharmacy in The University of Lagos. He tried first time and didn't get admission, second time same thing happened.

Third time, he was not admitted for pharmacy but he had the option to study biochemistry. Due to some reasons, he couldn't study it and his only option was chemistry science.

He took up the admission but wasn't happy in his first year because that wasn't his choice (because of the mentality around science courses). In Nigeria, people believe that engineering courses and medical courses are the best for any science student.

As such, most parents force their children into these fields, not caring about the potential the child carries. Well, he later graduated as a second class upper student (2.1).

He went further to do chemical engineering in as a postgraduate course in same UNILAG and wanted to work alongside his brother but was advised to go into accounting. He took ICAN an passed on first attempt.
He applied as the general assistant manager of a company but was given the post of an analyst. Gradually, with his hardwork, he rose to the general assistant manager and later moved to Skye bank where he held a very important role.

From Skye bank, he became the CEO of wema bank and gave them their place among the Africa's best banks. Wema bank is the first ever fully digital bank in Africa and this was achieved under his leadership.

## Do you know the beautiful thing? Someone asked him a question saying: "What do you regret not doing in the university". His reply was a little bit shocking. He replied: "Not starting my own business".##

For someone of his profile and achievement, you shouldn't be bothered about why you didn't make money in University, but he was.

Businesses don't generally mean selling products, services are also businesses. If you have have a talent or potential, try to develop that. All the richest men in the world are as a product of initiative and talent.
So many people have fallen due to studying the wrong courses. If all Nigerians are doctors, lawyers, accountants and engineers, who will be the surveyors, artists, forensics, entertainers, bloggers, geeks, footballer and most especially - teachers.

Parents should learn to identify the potential of a child before advising them to study a course. They push youths to study courses they are not interested in and end up becoming job seekers. Yet, we blame the government for not providing enough jobs.
Why can't we blame the parents for not providing enough minds.

Let the youths also learn to voice out their thoughts and be independent.
" It is better to live a happy life doing what you love than to be filthy rich doing what you hate." - Naijafalcon

Talents should not be wasted. Instead, they should be trained. If Nigerians want to compete among the top countries, it has to start from the youths. Doctors, lawyers, engineers and accountants will work with governments and institutions...they earn salary and are at risk of getting sacked anytime.

But self made men own their businesses, they dictate how their lives will be run. They have the potential to compete among the big names because they earn with what they enjoy doing most. If a child doesn't want to be a doctor, he shouldn't be forced to do so. Let's learn to train them and give them the right knowledge but education is equally important.

The only difference between a mechanic and a mechanical engineer is a laminated paper. This is the usefulness of education. It helps you to stand firm and defend yourself, it doesn't dictate how you love your life, how much you earn or how happy you will be.
Let's learn right. #NFNaijaYouthDevelopment

What sigerate smokers needed in siger is just the smoke.

Whether he pay through the IGR, FAAC share, or borrow from bank is not my concern, my concern is for him to pay the civil servants as of when due.

Come to think of it, the money been shared by FAAC, is it own by federal government?
If federal government are tired of sharing allocation, they should allow state resource control.

My most concern now is for governor to promote all the Rivers state civil servants to the next level, fasten the giving out of the revolving loan.

I am not a politician yet, I like Amaechi, as well I like Wike.
But when any of them exhibit bad character I will kick against them.

What Mr governor need to do now is to be workers friendly, which he is not for now.

He will earn that by promoting and implementing the promotion.

The monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) suffered another adjournment yesterday, the third since June 27, 2018 and the fifth since the beginning of the year, over controversies surrounding remittances by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The allocations for the months of May and June were yet to be distributed among the three tiers of government following the rejection of the NNPC remittances.

If FAAC want let them share the money together with this month FAAC allocation. Rivers has paid their civil servants together with Ekiti state. I know they will hurriedly share the money next week, as soon as Ekiti state election finishes tomorrow.

Ebonyi Govt. to pay workers’ July salary before 13th
15 hours ago

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State

Ebonyi Government says it will pay the July 2018 salaries of its workers before the month’s 13th day in spite of states not receiving the federation allocation since June.

Chief Obinna Nwachukwu, the Commissioner for Finance made the disclosure on Thursday in Abakaliki while addressing newsmen.

Nwachukwu said that the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) quagmire in the country would not affect the payment.

He said it was the government’s policy to pay workers’ salaries before the 15th of every month but the July payment would be made earlier to buttress such commitment.

“The government discovered that July 15th fell on a Sunday and the governor insisted that the salaries be paid on or before the July 13.

“The governor directed that I and the accountant general of the state obtain loan from available sources to offset the salaries due to the plight of workers.

“This is because the federation allocation has not been accessed by any tier of government in the country since June,” he said.

The commissioner noted that the FACC meeting had not been held on three occasions it was scheduled since June, adding that the one fixed for July 10 could not also hold.

“The country will not collapse due to the FAAC quagmire as insinuated in several quarters but there are technical issues that need to be sorted by concerned authorities.

“Several economically viable states are owing workers’ salaries due to the quagmire but Ebonyi has vowed never to join the league of such states.

“This is why the governor instructed that we source for loan to pay the workers salaries and we will refund the loan once the allocations are released.

“I am optimistic that the technical issues surrounding the FAAC quagmire will be sorted and we assure the state’s workers that their welfare is paramount in our policies,” he said.

Nwachukwu noted that the state had received its certificate of contribution to 250 million dollars borrowed by the three tiers of government from the excess crude account and transferred to the sovereign wealth fund.

“Ebonyi Government and the 13 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state duly contributed to the fund as the state contributed 1.37 million dollars, while the LGA’s contributed 754.2 million dollars.

“Ebonyi by God’s grace, has continually been in the forefront of the nation’s economic development as people now come to the state to copy its policies and programmes,” he said.

Our governor should focus on the civil servants on time, not a month to the election he will announce promotion and implementation as Ekiti did.

He should direct his project work to the masses, especially the civil servant, he should promote now, gave the interest free revolving loan now, delay is dangerous. If possible let him give double promotion across to all the civil servant.

So that people will see what will motivate them to vote and defend their vote. Promotion a month to the election is fake, because once after election, implementation will not follow.

But promotion which follow up with its implementation before election attract workers love to their governor.

Most Rivers state civil servants, most especially teachers in both UBE AND PPSB that constitute up to half percent of Rivers state civil servant, I have discussed with so far were all angry with Mr Governor and getting ready to cast their vote against him, on the note that since ten years now no promotion, some that entered since last five years no promotion too.

These teachers has direct contact with upcoming youths, some which are at their 18th birthday, whom are qualified to register and cast their vote, but due to negligence at the side of government to teachers, instead of discouraging political apathy, they will ended up encouraging it, because government is not showing concern toward them.

Most complained about increase in their responsibilities as a bread winners of their family, still in the same salaries scale for more than a decade, with more children, and children changing from one level of education to higher one, with children universities tuition fees on their head.

Still, they witness deduction on their paid salaries, economy on the negative side. Most civil servants (teachers especially) believed that promotion would have solved most of these economy challenges, and increase in responsibilities challenges, but it's not forthcoming.

Anyone close to governor should advice him to seek the support of civil servants ( teachers mostly, as they are badly neglected) , by giving all of them as matter of urgency their long over due double promotion to get their support during election.
