Is there any school/university in Nigeria that offers a baccalaureate degree in medical microbiology?
Even in Nigeria, Medical Microbiologists, Physiologists, Biochemists used to undergo a two year training at the old IMLTN to be able to work in Medical laboratories but that programme was scrapped with the enactment of the MLSCN Act of 2003 but this doesn't mean it has been stopped in other Countries.

In the UK, the Health and Care Professions council (HCPC) is the regulatory body that register and certify them to work in the Medical laboratories.

The HCPC is the regulatory body for
Art therapists, Biomedical Scientists (MLS), Chiropodists, Clinical Scientists (Biochemists, Medical Microbiologists etc), Radiographers, Physiotherapists, Hearing aids dispensers, Paramedics, Dietitians, Occupational therapists and Speech/language therapists.

nelszx:

And who certifies them?

An intelligent person doesn't necessarily mean someone who makes no mistakes but someone who learns from mistakes of himself and others.

I repeat, graduates of Life sciences like Biochemistry ,Medical Microbiology, Physiology etc (after necessary PG trainings) work in Medical laboratories in several parts of the World.

The attempt to make Medical laboratories in Nigeria exclusive for MLS can't work and will backfire in the long run.

The over zealousness of some MLS through the MLSCN to even stamped Medical doctors out of Medical laboratories has led to several court cases like the N1Billion suit that Pathcare (a firm of Pathologists) slammed against the MLSCN and several other court cases going on.

They came with thugs and crowds to attempt to seal off the laboratory of a hospital in Damaturu in 2010 and they were met with 'appropriate responses'. Similar cases abound until, they were called to other.

There no point arguing with that baised man. MLS in Nigeria seeks to initiate an exclusive yet quack practice. Abroad there's a place for biochemists, microbiologists, Anatomists and physiologist in the Lab. But here the greed of the MLS is dampening those courses, who in my opinion are more intelligent and objective than MLS graduates. The health system is still evolving and the laws will be repealed after series of agitations.

For it to be cancer, it's malignant
Causes/risk factors
1. Inability of the body to regulate apoptosis: failure means cells keep proliferating uncontrollably. This is the first marker.
2. Family history (speculative)
3. Exposure to radiation
4. Hormone replacement therapy this is applicable to breast cancers for post menopausal women.
5. Age *** : breast and prostate cancer; for prostate men 55/60 years and above, though age doesn't really work with breast cancer as some text would make you believe it's women between menopausal and post menopausal age that it's prevalent these days young girls too are been affected.
6. Viruses e.g. HPV for cervical cancer

you have never contributed anything to the medical students and aspirants forum

I have given the biggest contribution to doctors and other health workers. I don't segregate. I say the truth and leave everything else to God.

I thought you calmed down. But its obvious that your beef for SLTs is still very much alive. For your information, ASLTON and AMLSN Delta and Kano State Chapters were in court of recent because AMLSN came questioning our rights to operate a testing laboratory. The both ACT was finally explained by the court. Finally, ASLTON got victory and their Laboratories were reopened. Go and find out these for yourself. SLT graduates with the NISLT License operate testing Laboratories in Delta, Rivers, Kano etc...... Please do know we are not struggling with you over your Diagnostic laboratories. You can retain the name for the registration of your Business with CAC. Take ASLTON to court if you have any issue and stop attacking childlishly on nairaland.

To all SLT graduates/NISLT Members, know that you can operate your own testing laboratory go through the NISLT ACT but leave the name Medical yyyy for these haters. Do your Publicity well and be very good in your field and you will attract your clients/patients.

Chemical pathology is a specialty in Laboratory Medicine.A MLSt can also be called a chemical pathologist(if he/she specializes in ChemPath).that is,a Chemical Pathologist is a MLSt with Bias in Chemical Pathology.Medical Doctors(pathologists) can also specialize in chemical Pathology.

I have not seen this news anywhere else(about SLT authorized to open/operate a diagnostic Laboratory). There is no need saying anything.@irene670

As in Chemical Pathology and Medical Laboratory Sciences separate?,
Are you sure? i don't think so.Chemical Pathology is specialty in Laboratory Medicine and not a course someone can study singly,at least not in Nigeria.

Because the department is there doesn't mean they admit students directly to study chemical pathology.ChemPath is a Highly specialized field.
Just like in Faculty of Clinical Sciences, those Departments under the faculty don't admit students.
