Since de facto acting Prime minister Dipcharima was not immediately made head of govt to appease the North, problem was inevitable.

My guess was that Orizu feared for Igbo people and thought perhaps that an Igbo C-in-C could in the interim stabilise things. As it turned out, hardly anything could have worked aside letting the North secede as they wanted then.

Because easterners, led by Ironsi and Ojukwu stopped Nzeogwu's coup, and clamped those involved in that coup into detention.

When the July coup happened, northerners did not detain and punish their sons that took part in that coup. Rather, the coupists were rewarded with oil blocs, national awards and presidencies (Buhari is currently enjoying his own presidency as a result for all his treasonous acts against Nigeria)

The fact remains that Buhari was a participant in the Lagos phase of the counter coup that killed many Igbos. I - Ika (North-East and South)
O - Oshimili (North and South)
