I will tell you sir, that a good short concise acknowledgement mail as receipt of a mail for a job interview goes a long way to prepare the ground for a candidate. The candidate name resonant well with the HR recruiter and often time prepares the candidate for a mild toned interview session. Again for multistage interview, it is very good to send go acknowledgement mail. A 20-30 words mail kills no-one except a mentally lazy man.
It says a lot about the personality of the candidate and he's desire to join the organisation. Makes you stand out from the teeming crowd of applicants.
Remember to the recruiter the applicant is either underemployed or unemployed, so what stops him/her from acknowledging a mail in a nice way.

I agree with u my own concern is some people are not exposed to d acts of corporate world and don't even know they are meant ty acknowledge an invite most time fresh grads that don't ve experience about things like this and this doesn't make dem lazy.

I was with a friend sometimes back wen she saw a job advert DT says send ur CV to so so and so and guess what she just sent her CV with
Hello so so and so
Pls find attached a copy of my CV. And nothing more and she had been doing dat for long until I told her no u shld give a Lil intro about urself.

where I am going is dis she's a brilliant girl and a very energetic one and I can vouch dat she will perform excelently well on any role Buh 4 ANY strict Recruiter, she would ve b3n labelled as being unserious.

Actually, I do not see why the OP should be blasted for intimating us on his own subjective, characteristic disposition while assessing job candidates. If he went on to make his standards universal, then that would warrant objections embodying reason, not emotional reactions and name-calling.

Also, the points he outlined are simple and would hardly break a back after doing them. To be on the safe side and scale similar personal or professional recruitment standards, just do the needful. Create a new e-mail address; it's free. Learn to courteousy acknowledge interview invites; would it sap all your energy? The preceding cynical comments here are just merely making a tempest out of a tea cup.

'Bias' could also be alleged when qualified candidates are dropped, simply because of prejudice on the part of the recruiter. undecided If a candidate gets to know that he was not screened for a position, even though he/she was fully qualified for the role, just because the recruiter didn't like his e-mail address, don't you think the recruiter's actions could be classified as bias?

Don't forget that applicants might know someone within the organisation, who could give them relevant inside info and the recruiters may be unaware of this fact.

Let the insider document the "inside information" to the applicant in writing.

Learn To Acknowledge Invites Properly

Seriously, if I send my invites, I will never ask you to acknowledge them like many Recruiters do. But if I fail to get your invite 24 hours to the date of the interview, you won't be cleared for the interview.

It is something you should do without being asked. Anyway I stopped asking applicants for their acknowledgment when I got 2 silly acknowledgments from 2 unserious dudes.

The first one was:

Ok, I will be there

The second one was:

I won't come because I am living in Abuja.

I didn't clear the first one for the interview and so he didn't see his name on the Clearance List.

The second dude just lost out because we would be recruiting for one company for the same position in Kaduna and that opening comes with an accommodation

I would have him about it if he had acknowledged my invite properly. If he had consented, since I was in possession of his CV already, I would have transferred him automatically to that opening and forward his CV to our Recruiter there.

Imagine, a top Recruiter referring an applicant. You know what that means.

Good CV just became useless because of useless acknowledgement.

Many of you might be wondering what a Clearance List is.

This is a compilation of all the names of the successful Applicants. It shows their name and position applied for. All they need to do is just sign and enter the time.

We noticed that a lot of job seekers are gate crashing out interviews without been invited. So we devised that means to check them.

Let me give you an expo. A lot of companies are not using this Clearance List but rather Attendance List.

So monitor any company you want to work for, on the day of their interview, just dress well, go there and sign in. They will collect your CV at the venue and interview you as well. If you are successful, you would be employed.

But for us, NEVER!!!

You calling people silly because of what you consider wrong makes you unprofessional (no disrespect intended).
Respect for others should be part of the core values of any professional.

No, sir. His points were NOT valid in any way. sad He simply discarded those e-mail addresses due to his inner prejudice, without giving any concrete reason. Which law says that an applicant's e-mail address must consist only of his name?? shocked In reality, I know people who got high-flying jobs, using e-mail addresses that did not contain their names! I got 3 multinational jobs, using my personal e-mail address which does not even reflect my own name. So what is he saying? He is just trying to sound important. His post is nothing, but a lot of hot air! undecided

I repeat: a recruiter does not have any business with your e-mail address. His business should only be with your CV or resume! End of story.

Forget the email issue, Some emails are just weird. Especially all these ones used by our slay queens and attention seeking boys. But why discard an email because of the Numbers in it? Even if the applicant decides to create a new mail(Which is very easy BTW) he may still have numbers automatically assigned to it depending on the popularity of his name. And adding dots(.) in emails just makes it harder to refer people to it.

Use A Professional Email Address

I don't about other Recruiters, but for me, a stupid email address will never earn an invite from me.

What the heck are, Chizzybaby@gmail.com, Zainab4luv@yahoo.com? Seriously, these ain't email anyone seriously looking for job should be associating with.

Personally, I prefer emails with the applicants' full name or first name.

Try as much as possible not to use numbers in your email address, only when necessary.

Something like this is manageable, LekanAzeez86@gmail.com but Lekan86@gmail.com is unacceptable to me.

Officiallekan@gmail.com, IamLekan@gmail.com, LekanOfficial@gmail.com are all acceptable to me.

I am a HR officer for one of the Top 100 companies to work for in Nigeria (jobberman ranking) and i can say for a fact that alot of your excuses are just crap (excuse my language).

This email of a thing is not important and i have come across alot of funny emails and they eventually get the job. Its not a requirement.

As for acknowledgement, what else are you looking for? You want the person write an epistle to confirm attendance? Oh please. One time someone had an issue with distance and would be able to make it. Guess what, i scheduled a skype interview and another time, i told the person to visit one of our branches and i scheduled a Tele-presence (video call) interview.

Furthermore, i have on different occasions had candidates who are running late. Guess what, i call them to ask if they will be able to make it or they want to reschedule.

This is how HR is practiced and not the unnecessary bias you preach

It is people like you that give HR practioners a bad name. You need to check yourself

I'm sure you will agree with me that nowhere in this world will such 'bias' earn anyone at that any sanction(s). It is not a gender, race, sex, religion, colour, age issue.

This where you are wrong. The fact that it is not the case in your country does not mean it does not apply else where.

I did a masters in international HRM in uk (emphasis on international) and i can tell you for a fact that companies have been sactioned for being bias towards candidates. One of my temp lecturers who happened to be a police commissioner in uk was sanctioned just because they did not want to employ someone who was disabled. They cited security reasons as why the person could not be hired. Guess what, the candidate sued and it was ruled in her favour. I have many examples of where companies are sued for bias (both conscious and unconscious) i know this cos my dissertation was on it.

Is that all ?

No, that's not all.

1. He is saying you are suppose to use either 'I am or I' m' in all the places you used 'am'. Also, the letter 'I' as a 1st person personal pronoun should always come in capital when using it as such.

2. He is saying you need to learn how to use the above and other elementary grammar (maybe buy brighter grammar 1,2,3) to help you in your written English since the official language of Nigeria is English and you are writing application in English. Also the op is a recruiter and might have noticed that too and be waiting to see how open you are to correction.

IMO,
Most of what the Op is saying applies mostly to freshers, i mean applicants with few or no year of experience. For an experienced candidate, the CV/Resume is what matters; skills, experience, projects, leadership roles, etc

If this ain't the truth. When you have 17,000 people applying for an entry level job where only 25 people will be taken, that's when you start doing yaga yaga gymnastics to eliminate people.

When you are recruiting for a highly specialized role which you know only 30 people in Nigeria can effectively handle, then come and tell me about email address. grin

The OP probably works for a company where they handle 20 CVs per position advertised. I mean, how else will you be able to check the number of dots and numbers in a candidate's email address?

And then going in first or last? Lmao. If you don't stop that joke cheesy grin

I will respond to the mentions later, but before that I would love to address the issue of email address.

Every Recruiter knows there is something we call preliminary screening. It is a standard practice. In my organisation, we start with email. We are very strict with email.

For each position, we allow a maximum of 25 applicants for the interview. So imagine a situation where you are dealing with over 500 applications for just one opening.

Anyway, we believe that applicants that ain't serioud with email, won't be a serious contender. It is a fact. We have proofs.

As for acknowledgement, please tell me why you shouldn't acknowledge an invite?

Finally, there is difference between working as HR for a company and working as a HR for many companies.

We are responsible for who we recruit and I am not responsible for training and appraising a candidate I recruited.

My personal rating is based on the performance of those I recruited, trained and appraised.

To be on a safer side, avoid stupid email addresses and try to acknowledge properly.

Our system will even filter out those emails before they get to me. If they survive the Filters, they won't definitely survive me or any of our Recruiters.

About numbers on email addresses, I said avoid it if you could, but if you think you can't, just 2 digits will do. A digit or more than 2 is spammy. Our system is so good in filtering that.

KanuIdris2@gmail.com
KanuIdris25@gmail.com
KanuIdris253@gmail.com

The second one looks better and that is what I accept.

Sorry!!!

While it may sound harsh that most hiring managers critique email addresses, it does happen because they do create a first impression.

Below are 7 deadly email sins to make sure to stay away from so you don’t end up in the “unprofessional” pile.

1. Wrong Name
John_smith@.....(dot)com (when your real name is David Jones)
Don’t confuse the reader from the start! Is your name John Smith or David Jones? There is no reason to have the hiring manager ask this type of question at the start of your resume.’

2. Fantasy Name
invisibleman@.....(dot)com
Are you applying for a job or are you auditioning for a video game?

3. Creepy Name
collegestrangler@.....(dot)com
Given the fact that over 80% of companies now run background checks on potential employees, there is no reason to give an employer the impression that you may have a criminal record.

4. Sportsperson:
tigerwoods50@.....(dot)com
This might have been ok when you were in high school, but not in the workplace.

5. The Numbers:
998877665544@.....(dot)com
Confusing! You are just asking for someone to send an email to the wrong place.

6. The Crude Name:
hairychest@.....(dot)com
Not a good first impression. Also, many of these email address contain words that will usually get filtered into the spam folder.

7. Confess love email address:
bonjovilover@.....(dot)com

Again, you are applying for a job, not a role as a groupie.

So… what should you do?
Stick to the basics. The best email address will contain your full or partial name, followed by either characters or numbers. Think about how most workplace email addresses are set up – most of them contain a combination of an employee’s first and last name. Try to mimic this – a professional email address represents a professional job Candidate. Don’t give your reader the wrong impression!
