Gosh! Finally got to the page 396 of this thread and boy, am I glad I did?

I looked back at the two questions I asked here and it's hard not to feel embarrassed. I mean, all of the answers were just lying everywhere on the thread.

I literally feel like I know most of you already by following your stories from the days of your GRE and TOEFL, your test days, expectations, disappointments, your acceptance in various schools, visa interviews and how you're coping in the country of study. Like I already said, I am very glad for the experience.

I am writing the GRE in October, and I haven't read jack. I will start classes on Monday that'll run six weeks for the GRE and four weeks for the TOEFL (all done together). I already went through the materials I got from B.Y Mafit and I don't know how to feel - confused? scared? worried? I don't know.

Please, I need as much encouragement as possible. If there are other people who are applying for Fall 2019 who haven't written the GRE yet, please say something as I'd need as much motivation as possible. In fact, let's motivate each other.

I know close to nothing about TOEFL so I don't know how useful the magoosh material is.

The second app for AWA: I don't know about it but the ETS is a good material for AWA.

The third app (GRE vocabulary) is quite useful and contains quite a number of words that appear on the GRE.


I think you need to have an account to use the fourth one.

I know nothing about GMAT.

Sololearn is cool, coursera is also great for learning stuffs. I'm assuming you're not learning anything GTR from these sites though

Thanks for the response. I'm not learning anything GTR on there, however, GTR II know is only in cars (I may be wrong though). I'm all about machine learning, MATLAB and Data Analysis stuffs. BTW what's GTR?

Intending course of study: Chemical Engineering (MS/PhD or Direct PhD)
Degrees obtained already: BSc (Chemical Eng 4.62/5.0) MSc(Petroleum Engineering 3.64/4.0)
GRE and TOEFL: Q156 V144 AWA 3.5 TOEFL(R22 L22 S20 W23)
(Intend to rewrite both before Oct 31st, 2018)

Experience: About 1 year as a Graduate Assistant, about 3 years of serious research with 1 Journal article, 1 conference paper, and about 3 ongoing manuscripts.

Do you mean Fall 2019 or Fall 2018?

Except for schools with rolling admission, I think the applications are over for the Fall semester seeing that some schools have already resumed.

If it's for UT at Austin (Fall 2019), application has started already. Most departments will close shop December 1.

To be honest, your profile is strong but I am not so sure about your GRE and TOEFL scores. I am glad you want to rewrite.

I don't know so much about your course of study, but with a good GPA (which you already have), GRE&TOEFL (as demanded), LoRs, SoP, and others, you'll get funding for your PhD programme. Like they always say here, it's a sin to pay for your PhD yourself.

There are many STEM students here, I hope they come all out to help you with safe schools you can apply to. You also have to keep researching. Don't forget to email the department's coordinators also to find out about funding.
