Hello. Why not try to resolve the issue of your crashed system. Send me a pm let's solve whatever problem it had together.

As for buying, if you're in Lagos, there are a couple of bookshops at Yaba but I'm not sure of the amount of the textbooks.

There's also someone here who printed the whole textbooks in paper in a school (because printing is cheaper in. a school environment. Walk into anywhere at Yabatech or Unilag and get it done at a cheaper price.

Good luck in your GRE, all the best.

Hello everyone. I have my gre slated for Oct 11 and I really need to know the best books and strategies to prepare for the quant section as mathematics has never been my thing. I have the Manhattan 8,5lb, nova gre Bible, Barron and almost every other materials. I'm just not certain of which of the books would be the best to prepare with.
Thanks in anticipation of an enlightening reply.

Gosh! Finally got to the page 396 of this thread and boy, am I glad I did?

I looked back at the two questions I asked here and it's hard not to feel embarrassed. I mean, all of the answers were just lying everywhere on the thread. grin

I literally feel like I know most of you already by following your stories from the days of your GRE and TOEFL, your test days, expectations, disappointments, your acceptance in various schools, visa interviews and how you're coping in the country of study. Like I already said, I am very glad for the experience.

I am writing the GRE in October, and I haven't read jack. I will start classes on Monday that'll run six weeks for the GRE and four weeks for the TOEFL (all done together). I already went through the materials I got from B.Y Mafit and I don't know how to feel - confused? scared? worried? I don't know.

Please, I need as much encouragement as possible. If there are other people who are applying for Fall 2019 who haven't written the GRE yet, please say something as I'd need as much motivation as possible. In fact, let's motivate each other.

My profile:
Undergraduate GPA: 4.11/5
Course studied: Mass Communication
Intended course for Fall 2019: Advertising
GRE: -
TOEFL: -

I can't wait to give my testimony on here also.

P.S. If there is anyone going for an Advertising course in any US school, please holler. I'm yet to see anybody who is currently studying or wants to study Adverstising in the US (both here and the USA visa thread). All I see are tons of STEM courses and few communication courses.
lol you're also here, have you write the GRE, in case you jam any school that offer funding for their communication program, kindly notify me.
I will hint you if I come across advertising funding grin

Morning Savants. Good job for keeping this thread alive since 2016. My GRE is in few days time (10). I need advice with regards to reporting scores. The plan is to send scores to good (safe) schools that wont request for hard copy transcripts before deciding one's admission status. Schools that'll make do with soft copy (official) first. Hard copy is around 25k in My school

However, the here's what i've got down.

TAMU College Station
The University of Texas at Austin
USC vertibi
OregonTech.
UMass Lowell
UMaryland College Park..

Erudites in Diaspora, pls help evaluate. @Time2smile,
Happyday, SirRiddy, Ponpon, scholastica16, Qouran & everybody with info.

The first 3 schools are for Petroleum Engineering (M.Sc)
The last 3 are Renewable Energy Engineering Ph.D

B.Sc Elect/Elect (3.38/4.0)WES
National Diploma-Elect/Elect (3.63/4.0)

Thanks.

Are u sure Oregon Tech offers PhD in Renewable Energy Engineering? I checked their website and couldn't find anything like that. I was actually admitted for their MS program in 2016, but I couldn't go because of financial constraints.

Schrodinger1,let me be honest with you. You need to check your choice of schools again. The first three are extremely competitive. Even with perfect GRE scores nothing is guaranteed. Those are the best schools in the land for Petroleum Engineering. Try Texas Tech ,LSU and Oklahoma also. They are a bit less competitive.

Make sure the other three accept direct PhD. Also check for funding opportunities. All the best.

I don't know about other schools but UT Austin only requests the official transcript from your school after you have been admitted to the programme. So, basically you can submit the copy you have with you while filling in your application.

About funding, I also don't know about your department but most departments there fund the PhD students for three years while they are left to fund their last year(s) themselves.

How is your application coming? Most application deadlines for UT Austin is December 1.

Relax.
The GRE is basic mathematics. Convince yourself that it is Not hard but tricky.

Aim to avoid the slips and pitfall. Take a lot of practice tests. You will be fine.

Hello Guys. I guess everyone has settled in ? For those still trying to getting admission and funding, don't give up. Those of us who have benefited from here will do our best in helping others too.

By the way,I did change my school to Stanford. Remember the guy I was always mailing at Stanford? He was able to get funding for me as one of his prospective students left for Cambridge in the UK. So I'm super elated and glad. Though I wasted some money processing stuff to go to TAMU, I'm optimistic going to Stanford is worth it.

No, I have been speaking with the Professor for a very long time now. He had limited spaces in his lab. Fortunately, one student dropped (Dude got a GATES Cambridge scholarship) and he offered me the space after I had got my visa for another school.
He did assist me with switching on getting to the USA.

Admission in Stanford is attached to Funding. No funding from Professors or fellowship,no Admission.

I will continue to announce the difficulties involved in getting MSc funding. So you might want to be careful when making MSc only apps in that regard. If you are applying for a direct PhD in any school, try as much as you may to communicate with a member of faculty as well.

Generally, your profile is decent but the competition is stiffening. Still dig deeper for moderate schools in your proposed field.

I'm confused ,you saying us visa is easier to than Canadian study permit ? do you have any data to substantiate this ?
for some reason I thought Canadian study permit was easier and us visa is hard ( relatively ) .
to the contrary ,admission to us schools is easier and Canadian schools are more strict and hard to get into .
just a thought though

Canadian visa takes about 4 months to process of which you are a silent appellant considering you submit documents and wait. In US, in the 4 months wait, you can try and fail say 3 or 4 times. US schools are hard to gain admission into for MSc, PhD and undergraduate programs. M.Eng and professional degrees however are not that difficult owning to relaxed admission policies.

Missed out on African Institute for Mathematical Science last year, re-applied this year and not gotten any response yet. To cut the long story short, I just need advice on how to go about schools I can pick and some other tangible information that would be beneficial.

CGPA : 4.56/5.0
Degree: BSc
Course: Mathematics
Thesis: Semi-analytic Solution of Magnetohydrodynamic Flow of a Third Grade Fluid through a Porous Medium( My supervisor promised to publish it as a local journal but I doubt if he did cos it's like 2yrs now)
My research interest is Financial Mathematics..
Pls I need help on schools to look out for, when would be advisable to take GRE and all

You won't spend the money once plus you factored certain aspects more than once. For e.g, you considered applying for a visa 3 times.

Hello guys, glad to have come across this page, you guys are doing an excellent job.

I'm an undergraduate student, engineering, 400l, hopefully graduating next year. I'm on 4.7+. I'm planning to take GRE Oct, in fact I'm registering with BY Mafit today. But seriously I don't know if I'm taking steps in the right direction, like am I not being too forward? What are your advice people? I'm looking at going for a direct PhD US/Canada.

Register now, and write the GRE when your brain is still hot. I know some schools say they prefer a recent GRE but just see it as a blanket statement. It hardly matters. Starting early will give you an edge over other applicants especially international students. You are not being too forward.

As far as education is concerned and funding, US over Canada.
