Dremca:
How are Nigerians over there viewed in terms of trust considering the bad image Nigerian cyber criminals portray in the global space.
In the abstract, poorly. In person, well. Hence the aforementioned surprise I was talking about.

I'll have to somewhat agree with what radautoworks mentioned earlier on this. The way you carry yourself in diaspora has a lot of influence on NOT only you as a person but also your immediate relations, and even your country of origin as a whole.

I cannot recollect how many times I've been jokingly asked about the Nigerian prince scam, advance fee fraud and other '419' inspired questions. As much as some consider such question a weakness, I actually see it as an avenue to correct another white man's misconception of the country.

In the cause of my interactions, I've learned to put them on that level where they cannot fathom the fact that I come from the same Nigeria portrayed by CNN and the rest of the world as the abode of the worst! I tend to make sure that at the end of our discussion, all they can see is that invisible halo hovering my head and them planning their next visit to the country

One more thing to remember is the fact that fidelity mean so much to them and they tend to trust and relate to you based on your motives with them, even within the shortest period of time.

This is the simple weakness these so called 'Yahoo boys' capitalize on and go further to exploit their vulnerabilities and harvest their innocence. You'll be surprised how much of these boys play mind game as opposed to diabolical methods which is conceived by the gen pop.

Some may be rigid in accepting a different view.

Haven't met any yet. We are a lot more hard-headed than they are.

There is a report that says Ghanaians are the most hardworking immigrant in terms of higher education and employment in the US ahead of Nigerian immigrant. How realistic is this report. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/ghana-beats-nigeria-in-list-of-most-hardworking-foreigners-in-us-267112.html

@ Dremca...I love your zeal and curiousity

-As at 2 years ago, a Startup founder on student F1 non immigrant visa could get a startup kinda business likely resident visa if An American citizen invests over 100 thousand dollars in his company

I don't know of now but talk.to a good American immigration lawyer

- h1b cap exempt visa; (F1 post study government job automatic work permit) Get medical affiliated course to study and get a government hospital. Or university job which is work permit guaranteed because of lower wages at those places compared to private jobs while You hustle your business on side

- Eb5 investor visa- If you have 500 thousand to invest in a
business that employs Ten Americans in a geographical area American locationof high unemployment and 1 million to invest and employ 10 Americans in an area of low employment

You would need to discuss with an immigration lawyer to verify these things I said

I would advise you hustle in Texas or Ohio, silicon.valley and California is too expensive to live and even Highly paid software engineers in Facebook have to beg Mark Zuckerberg Facebook CEO to help them with rent.

Venture capitalists are everywhere. When your products , business, service or software starts getting
users, revenue or traction,Investors can rush in, Microsoft is in Washington, geography in the USA is not an issue. Warren Buffet is in Omaha Nebraska.

I am not in the USA yet and i am not yet a usa citizen or yet a usa greencard holder. And not yet an American student. I just do a Lot of Research

NOTE; 2020 DECEMBER update

A lot has changed in USA immigration and migration lawS. The above information may be valid or may no longer be valid at this time , Talk to your American Immigration Lawyer for current up to date information. Thank You

Sorry to say, but you are the one who is rigid here. As you have been told, clear your mind of all assumptions and misinformation, open up to new ideas and be ready to have a culture shock.
An example is on the issue of washing cars, I don't think frequency of washing cars in The US will be as much as Nigeria since there are better roads and less dust.
Also, something every contributor has been saying is that every immigrant should have a good self esteem and an open mind.

I shared so you could see that our biggest hurdle a lot of the time is us. Specifically, other Nigerians over there who either have a "crabs in a bucket" mentality or a superiority complex.

In my experience, you will have more successful dealings with non-Nigerians overseas. Yes, inflammatory but that is my conclusion in 23 years.

A nairalander narrated how he was duped by a Nigerian for the first time he came to the US in one of the US thread I've read. Am yet to hear inspiring stories of any Nigerian billionaire who has motivational stories to tell the young ones of how they made it from nothing to something. Even the politicians who are elected to lead us run a get-rich-quick scheme once they are in government.

What about how does the world view the unguarded and leaking mouth president of the country you want to go? Do you think as terrible as the world makes it look like, that Nigerians can elect such a man who does not know how to talk? And we think they are perfect. Lol!

I have read many of your comments and I like your zeal for success. However, this kind of question should be avoided. Please, kindly focus on the good side of your country. The US you want to go has got her own issues and bad sides too.

The US is a land of opportunities, but Nigeria is a land with hidden treasures. Opportunities are common in the US, but in Nigeria you will get treasures. Treasures are uncommon. So, when you get there, do yourself a favor: Find a way back home to hunt for the treasures in the future. Treasures are rare and scarce, but they last very long. Every Jack/Jerry thrives where there are abundant opportunities, but very few go after treasures.

Let me give you examples of the American citizens who are already positioning themselves to hunt for treasures in Nigeria.

1. Beyonce was in Nigeria one time, and she sang our national anthem without reading from the paper. She knows every Nigerian who attended elementary or high school in Nigeria can sing it by heart. So, she had to learn it by heart. We all know our national anthem, but do most Americans know theirs?

2. Beyonce has promoted the Ikorodu kid dancers many times on her twitter and IG pages. Ikorodu kid dancers are kids based in Lagos.

3. Drake and Wizkid Collaboration

4. Diddy and Wizkid Collaboraion.

5. Just yesterday, Janet Jackson released the visual of her latest singles. Check out the number of views under 24 hours. Check the youtube link I have included below. Janet and her dancers wore ankara (Nigerian attire, I think it is from Yoruba). And can you see those men who opened the song with the yoruba talking drum? That is one of the main heritage of Yoruba. The talking drum cannot be seen anywhere else without talking about the Yoruba culture. It is a yoruba drum from ages. And it talks. Any sound you can make in yoruba, it will give you. Even Ron Kenoly and Don Moen used it in one of concerts in Nigeria. Can you hear what the talking drum was saying/singing?

"Asiko ope, Jene ti de"
English translation: Thanksgiving season, Jene (Janet) is here. Jene is a way of saying Janet in Yoruba.

OK these people are entertainers. I agree. What about the young billionaire and boss of facebook, Mark Zuckerberg who was here to invest heavily in digital business in Nigeria recently. Mark walked, jogged in Yaba, and not even in Lekki, Ikoyi, or Victoria Island. Yaba. Do you know that Lord Luggard lived in railway compound in Yaba? Yaba Vs Ikoyi. My brother, Mark is a treasure hunter. He found his treasures in Yaba and not in Bourdillon, where Jagaban resides.

And let me remind you Emmanuel Macron, the French president who was in Lagos recently. Where did he go after saluting our president? Fela's Shrine - of course to go and feel Afrobeat. Fela Anikulapo Kuti is a treasure even after his death. Everyone asked Macron why the Shrine? That was when he said he was an intern at the French embassy some years back, he lived in Lagos for about a year, and he discovered tresures in Nigeria.

Talking of Afrobeat, Janet's song was introduced with Afrobeat. Wizkid has taking afrobeat to the US too. I will not be surprised if the song Diddy is directing for Wizkid presently has afrobeat touch. Do you know that people are beginning to call him Oluwa-Diddy? Adding the yoruba prefix to his name. Lol And let us not forget that Femi and Seun, the boys (children) of Fela the legend are masters of Afrobeat, and they have performed all round the world. I remebered Alicia Key's tweet when she hailed Femi that she was feeling the vibe of one of his singles. Lol.

I can go on and on.

No matter how we see Nigeria, this nation is great. Let us leave common opportunities and Silicon Valley for common people. Great men hunt for treasures. When you mention Nigeria, mention treasures.

The first treasure in Nigeria is her people. Dremca, you are one. The truth is that the US government knows too that we are treasures. And I believe that it is why they are not rigid with their visa interviews. 2 mins interview. Is that the way to conduct an interview? They know that no matter how terrible any Nigerian they give a visa, there is high probability that he/she is a gift. I do not support scams, but I am telling you who we are. We are treasures.

Until we know who we are, then, we will be celebrated. Not saying you should not pursue your dream in the US, but just know that Nigerians are treasures. Please, stop asking questions like this. Just focus on what you want to achieve.

Blessings!

I need a sane country where my idea and creativity will pave way for my success and not having to bribe someone for me to be successful. Until son of nobody becomes somebody without knowing somebody, that's when I'll appreciate Nigeria.

Hmmmm!

Well, I understand your plight. Let me use another yoruba adage to answer you. Owo omode ko to pepe, ti agbalagba ko wo inu keregbe . English Translation: The hand of a kid cannot reach the top of the tree, and the hand of the adult cannot enter a gourd through its mouth. Meaning, no one is flawless. American has insanity issues in some areas too.

Bro, I encourage you to pursue your dream, but do not speak bad of Nigeria while doing it. Just do what you have to do. And pray that you do not meet the insanity part of America when you get there. That is when you will understand the yoruba adage above.

I beg to differ, Nigeria is a sane country. I advise you to read about the "Emergence of the United States"; thenafter, you will understand better. Everything in the US is not wonderful. I am not saying America is bad. I love the country.

I do not want to derail this thread, but I have to stop you guys from speaking bad of Nigeria. While you are hustling to leave for the US, OP who is an American came to Nairaland to open a thread for you. Does that not show you that she has a strong interest in Nigeria and Nigerians? Make her desires to love Nigeria more by not saying bad things about Nigeria if you do not see one good thing about Naija.

Finally, Seun the owner of nairaland did not bribe anyone before creating this forum. Did he know any top man in the Nigerian government? He is one of the treasures we are talking about. And he has created a platform even for the American who is interested in talking with Nigerians. If Seun had cursed Nigeria, do you think you can have nairaland to talk to people about going to America? Do you think Seun can ever leave Naija and start saying bad things about Naija. I want to relate with Nigerian ambassadors. I am one too. Naija for life! #NaijaForLife.

Let me give you an advice: Find a reason to be grateful to God for making you a Nigerian. Why? You will still use the Nigerian passport to apply for that US visa you want to get. Or am I wrong? Let me finish with another yoruba adage. Bi omode ba mo ore ope ti ana du, a ri omiran gba ni oni . English Translation: An appreciative child who has acknowledged yesterday's blessing will get more today [/b]. Meaning: The key to getting your visa and living a fulfilled life in the US might be to appreciate God that He did not make the mistake of creating you a Nigerian.

Ok. Nice so far.

We will not just fold our arms and not check your intentions for this thread. As long as it is for the benefit of educating young men (they easily get attracted to this kind of thread), you have our blessings to carry on. Every good gesture is not a blessing. The initial intent is the main issue.

I read the thread "Yankee: through the eyes of a village boy", and I took note of some points.

hiawathia1981 - -> Bsuedu - -> Backfornow. I hope this is the last bus-stop. And I expect the other one Kh/iaa to show up very soon.

We are watching. Ok?

For now, it is all good. Let us not derail your thread. We just need to let everyone know that we will protect Nigeria's good image. We are very intelligent and God fearing set of people.

You can continue.

I do have global entry membership but the membership requirements is very strict.

It involves a Comprehensive FBI Background Check including a 10 year look back period which involves a Background Check on every employer you have worked for plus every where you have lived for the said period.

I only had a Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct Charge which was dismissed by the District Attorney and I explained that to the TSA Supervisor during my interview.

It took about a week for my Background Check from the FBI to come out Clean and I was subsequently approved and my Global Entry Membership Card was mailed to my home address.

I believe it cost about $100 for the Five year period that is valid.

I also have CLEAR.

Global Entry + TSA Precheck + CLEAR= No wait in line during air travel.

Honestly, why are you doing this to Nigeria? Why not focus on the intent of this thread? Are you planning to overstay when you get there? Why ask for people who did such foolish act? Your intent in this thread is questionable.

Guy, you can make it nicely. When you travel to the US and return, you have better chances of making it. What you need to do is scout for opportunities when you are there. It is a land of opportunities. No doubt, it is. You always have a return ticket with visiting visa; therefore, do not over stay. Return home and re-strategize if you spot an opportunity while under visiting visa.

Believe me, the US loves Nigerians. They know we are very intelligent. They like many things about us. Take advantage of that.

Our accent, our native attires, our Nigerian necklaces, our very bold ways of responding to situations, and our charisma are what they love about us. Leverage on these things.

I can give you tips on how to go about things legally and intelligently. You can make it. No need to announce "working codedly" publicly under a visa type that makes it illegal. Foreigners read nairaland every blessed day.

On this thread, there are 2 or 3 people who you should send PMs to for advice. If you read through very well, you can easily spot them.

Be good. If you must ask because of desperation, please, do it with the person privately and stop embarrassing us on public forums like this. We have our reputation to protect. Thanks!

What's this global entry all about. Please explain it in a lay man language.
LUCAS99:

Thanks!

Keep to the intent of this thread.
