Lol. Nigerians commenting here sound like illiterates. He never said he's planning on legalising gay marriage or even the act.

He's merely saying he won't be criminalizing them so far they keep it private and amongst themselves because being gay does not take away their basic human rights.Did the president that criminalized gay marriage in 2012 turn the state of Nigeria around? He used that as a distraction for gullible Nigerians while the country went to hell.

Nigerians acting holier than thou since 1960 and still ranked one of the most corrupt countries on earth and also very poor and backward along with most other African countries. Makes one wonder.
Actually na u no get the gist

Even abroad with all their "sophistication" still abhor homo(forget all that stuff u see on tv) the difference is they no dy para about am like we do in africa and asia

My dear brother, every one I am sure understood him very well. The truth is, LGBT topics when Nigerians nay Africans are concerned, is a very sensitive topic ala religious topics.

If he truly understood the Nigerian politics and Nigerians, he should have smartly avoided answering any questions on that topic. That right there is a potential election swinging comment.

For those asking whether gay issues are a priority in Nigeria for Donald Duke to have said this

1) Gay Nigerians are still Nigerians so Yes, their issues are also a priority

2) He was asked a question in an interview. What was he supposed to do, not answer? I'm sure if he had said the opposite, y'all would have been hailing him but because he doesn't subscribe to your closed-minded, busybodiness, he suddenly shouldn't voice his opinion.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Mr Duke, that is officially the end of your Presidential bid, once you as much as go close to Lgbt then prepare to battle against 90% of Nigeria, this is not a place where the minority torment and control the majority.

Noooooooooooooooooo! Nigeria ain't ready for this kinda statements... Error!!! This is Nigeria and not USA. Trust people from the north to use this against him.

Not even the Northerners. Wetin concern those ones with Turenci. And yes they have a good number of coded gays in the North.

He shot himself in the ass with our Southern sanctimonious Christians mainly.

I would have preferred he said
"My name is Donald, the Nigerian Donald Trump" instead of this lame western wannabeism. Lol

Former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke has said he won’t criminalize gay Nigerians is President.

He made this known in a recent interview with Falz and Laila on the viral show ‘On The Couch’ saying;

‘I think we are an under-performing and under-achieving nation and the basis of our problem is poor leadership’.

On the issue of the highly contentious special anti robbery squad (SARS) and if he would scrap the agency, the presidential aspirant said categorially, “Of course I would. Because I do not subscribe to the force where people carry arms and they’re not in uniform.”

Donald Duke went on to bring up the issue of LGBT rights in Nigeria saying

“I don’t understand the emotional feelings a gay person would have toward someone of their sexuality. I don’t understand it. But I would not criminalise them. I would ensure that they have the protection of the law. But if they want to exhibit their sexuality, then that’s an affront on the current norms of society.”
“Can you have a gay person in your cabinet?” Laila asked. “His sexuality is private to him,” the former governor answered. I don’t want to know if he’s gay. It’s not my business. My business is if he can perform the assignment that he’s been assigned.”

should this man have said this in public? most nigerians are too narrow-minded to comprehend him.just look at the comments on this forum, and for me,either he or atiku is the smartest of all the presidential aspirants.see them all forming morals: yahoo boys, oloshos, flatinoes, afonjas, xtians, muslims etc.they have forgotten that discrimination is discrimination no matter the form.are gays mad? no,they arent, some of the best artiste in the world are gays;and am still yet to see two mentally unstable humans hold meaningful conversations!

I love your comment but for the bolded.
Do you know that the so-called mads actually look at and think same of the so-called sanes?

What you have up there is yet one of the unending cycles of discrimination bro.

Lol. This man thinks by this statement he's won the heart of the US, strengthening the idiootic belief that whoever the US supports in any country's presidential elections wins. Nothing could be more hilarious than this.
And that's not to even mention the fact that the US under Trump is currently anti-LGTB.

Morality should never be excused from the business of governance and legislation. Countries like the US, UK and much of Europe who think they could successfully do that without consequences, are now being confronted with the inevitable. One of such is the proliferation of war-field guns in the hands of the bulk of the citizenry and the daily shootings that happen as a result - in schools, night clubs, malls, etc. Another gullible African who equates the US to heaven. Banned from the US for making a social media comment in the support of my country, and so? Such gullibility. grin
your country will expire soon
