I find this statement of his rather contradicting. He still hasn't define his stance yet. It's either he's fully in and totally against the criminalizing of sexual minorities or nothing. No inbetweens!

Former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke has said he won’t criminalize gay Nigerians is President.

He made this known in a recent interview with Falz and Laila on the viral show ‘On The Couch’ saying;

‘I think we are an under-performing and under-achieving nation and the basis of our problem is poor leadership’.

On the issue of the highly contentious special anti robbery squad (SARS) and if he would scrap the agency, the presidential aspirant said categorially, “Of course I would. Because I do not subscribe to the force where people carry arms and they’re not in uniform.”

Donald Duke went on to bring up the issue of LGBT rights in Nigeria saying

“I don’t understand the emotional feelings a gay person would have toward someone of their sexuality. I don’t understand it. But I would not criminalise them. I would ensure that they have the protection of the law. But if they want to exhibit their sexuality, then that’s an affront on the current norms of society.”
“Can you have a gay person in your cabinet?” Laila asked. “His sexuality is private to him,” the former governor answered. I don’t want to know if he’s gay. It’s not my business. My business is if he can perform the assignment that he’s been assigned.”

Imagine a person like Donald Duke that I like and respect so much vomiting this kind of rubbish. He's digging his political grave by himself. Sad!

If He isn't the one, then who is? Nairaland wahala sef tayer me...May be our minds and brains have been sterotyped towards the recycled gabbages and dead fruits constantly presented to us for consumption..
"i dont want to ever meet a lifeless president ever again" think Nigerians think.....'we are powerful as a crowd in unity of purpose absent selfish end, outside political affiliation, religion etc... Majority of citizens speak and act based on what they gain from a particular government as a result, they call black red and red black..... Please let's do it right come 2019. Think the future, your today is only but a passing phase..

Our economy wasn't great back then, it was bad but not worst as it is now. Mr Donald doesn't support gayism but he is interested in what you can deliver. We too hypocritical to judge a guy because of his sex life. If the acclaimed gay is the only alternative to get things done,I do not see reason why he shouldn't be used. Would you rather loose an opportunity to make a nation great because of one stupid norm. There are laws against gays. If they are caught, they are jailed.

A politician makes a sensible, tolerant comment, amounting to nothing more than "keep your business to yourself and I'll leave you alone", and all the Nairaland bigots and hypocrites go crazy! What's worse is that I bet many of the same people ranting nonsense about Duke losing their vote are just as terrible "sinners" by their own religious codes as any of the gays they hate so much, and last I checked, the Christian Bible considers acts like theft, embezzlement, fornicating, adultery and even mere lusting after other men's wives as just as bad as anything gays do. Besides, what part of "He who is without sin should cast the first stone" don't you hypocritical ranters understand?

Gay Nigerians are just as much citizens of Nigeria as everyone else, and therefore just as deserving of having their rights protected. Just because some of you don't like what they do in private doesn't mean you have any right to interfere with their freedoms, as long as they aren't forcibly dragging you into joining them. Nigeria would be a far better country if more of you knew how to mind your own business and leave others alone, and diverted some of that energy you currently pour into sanctimonious outrage at gays into actually practicing the core tenets of your religions by being honest, kind and tolerant towards others, without expecting something from them in return.

Lol. This man thinks by this statement he's won the heart of the US, strengthening the idiootic belief that whoever the US supports in any country's presidential elections wins. Nothing could be more hilarious than this.
And that's not to even mention the fact that the US under Trump is currently anti-LGTB.

Morality should never be excused from the business of governance and legislation. Countries like the US, UK and much of Europe who think they could successfully do that without consequences, are now being confronted with the inevitable. One of such is the proliferation of war-field guns in the hands of the bulk of the citizenry and the daily shootings that happen as a result - in schools, night clubs, malls, etc.
President Donald Trump is averse to LGBT... His government can't even support any pro gay candidate

So. of all electoral group, you have decided to pick this uselessand God-forsaken group to protect,. You don't have any good thing to boast or talk about except this thing that has lost its global steam when it's Antichrist proponent-Obama (who married to a certain man called Michael, the one you gullibly called Michelle Obama).
America of this present has turned it's back from this movement and will rather, instead of supporting you, look down on you. Donald Duke, you fall my hand!
