An aggrieved Nigerian Ifeoma N Chukwuogo has narrated her ordeal at the INEC Centre where she had gone to collect her permanent voter’s card.


According to Chukwuogo, she had waited for 4.5 hours to be attended to when billionaire daughter of Femi Otedola, DJ Cuppy walked in and jumped the queue.


She wrote:

RE this Cuppy thing..truth is, highly privileged people are rarely concerned with life outside their bubble.


Y/day I stood for 4.5 hrs trying to get my PVC, got there at 7, left at 11.30.

Cuppy strolled in at 10.30 with her entourage and mopol, walked past all of us on the queue and went straight into the thumbprint and registration room. I was standing right outside the door just about to go in when this happened. Now, many of us were VERY frustrated at the whole registration affair.


A man beside me just about to go in had been there since 4am or so. Of course, folks were muttering under their breaths about the unfairness. She’s not a diplomat/politician, she’s just wealthy. If you don’t want to join us like cattle standing for hrs getting harassed by officials, arrange for a private registration at a location of your choice. There’s nothing wrong with that. Companies and residential estate arrange for INEC officials to come register their staff/residents for convenience sake. But I’m guessing there was the PR aspect of it too because her handlers photographed it. No crime in that. She’s an influencer.


What made me realize how tone-deaf she might be was how despite the obvious frustration from people’s facial expressions, and me actually loudly telling an INEC official in her presence that it was unfair to do that at our expense as we all have places to be as well is that she was smiling and chuckling through it all. I was looking straight at her as I was saying these things, not even in a combative manner, more in a “she/you guys should be doing better, leading by example” type stuff.


It was interesting (and annoying) to watch.
They got her sorted and she left.
I don’t expect this sort of person to be aware of stuff outside of their bubble, that’s why I’m not surprised about this interview brouhaha
She’s not a terrible person, I actually enjoy her public personality on occasion.


But Cuppy is tone-deaf.
Honestly, for those in my mentions trying to justify this sort of thing, you’ll be ignored and if you persist, you’ll be blocked swiftly.

I think it's a general situation and there's no need to make a fuse out of this because she's DJ Cuppy and Otedola's daughter.

I witnessed a PVC center where the officials collect 2K to jump queue and other people were standing in the sun.

If you have your 2K, they will bring you in and claim you were given number since yesterday. I was angry at them since I just went for observation I had nothing to lose.

We say the government is corrupt, corruption begins with us as Nigerians. You and I.

It's a shame that some people were paying the 2K, both the officials and people that paid are all corrupt. It's more than the government. It's our problem.

This is not just a DJ Cuppy thing, it's a general societal problem.

Everywhere in life there are priveledges and perks that come with being successful or from the bloodline of a successful person ..

Just like Davido and this NYSC thing, some people must enjoy some privileges otherwise their presence and long stay may cause some distractions and/or security situation.

Just imagine the girl being on the queue all day with you, the crowd that would probably gather just to take pictures of her or with her, might make the entire place uncomfortable for you all.

You see, one of the worst feelings in life is being resentful of something you'd never be able to do anything about.
So cuppy jumped the queue, you couldn't say nothing to her face... Then you took to d media to let your aggrievances known, well sorry but our dad's aren't billionaires.

I am disappointed at al those bashing the young woman who expressed her disappointment at the uncivil act of queue jumping.
It's not about DJ Cuppy but the fact that there wasn't any form of apology, or plea to those waiting for several hours.
We talk about corruption, but even this act if civil disorder is part of what we should never uphold.

We would never grow as a nation if money takes precedence.
We complain about those who collected Onions and 4k during recent elections, but there are lots of INEC Officials collecting different amount of money in order to register Nigerians.

I agree with the lady, if the billionaire daughter want to register without joining the queue, then she should have acted more discreetly.
VIp treatments exist, but in saner clime, it's dome discreetly. Not in the full view of others who by being attended to, they feel cheated.
