gamaliel9: We have continued to fail at U20 because we ha continued to under estimate the competition at that level. I don't know if u have joined this thread when I was lamenting the selection process of the U20s. If we do well at U17 there is always the tendency to promote most of the U17 to U20. I don't have issues if they all merit the promotion but where there are issues is where the coach will chose to remain loyal to his U17 players if he is promoted along with them, there by ignoring other players who were not part of the U17 and have the quality to knock out some of those ex-U17 players. Why we have continued to perform relatively better at U23 than at U20 is because we have always failed at U20 and so there will not be this cry of promoting all the U20 players to U23. At U23, we go for the best available and we have often seen the results. Throw the U20 screening open and select our best Available legs within that age you'll see the difference. Each time we win the U17 , two years later we either crash out at the Group stage of the U20 or at best 2nd round. Our best U20 performances have never come 2 years after winning an U17 WC. And on the World level, no country has ever won the U17 and two years later won the U20. Same U17 players loyalty is a major reason. Sometimes I don't know if those in our NFF technical committees have not taken time to observe these trends. The last England U20 winning team should be a model we should copy, matured U20 squad, full of experience. Not parading 16, 17 years old academy players as U20 and expecting them to do magic 2 Likes 1 Share |

Icon4s: You have full marks on this..the u21 is a different bowl of eba and egusi soup--thats what i will eat this afternoon by the way....If we ever get this right...the result will be booom...they will move straight to main teams with their age..and start playing immediately...but at u17 hum...they are still seen as academy players...lets hope that our NFF take note of this and act fast. MOST ARGENTINE S MAJOR PLAYERS CAME UP THROUGH U21 NOT U17....Maradona..Batistuta...Messi...etc 1 Like |

Ndidi failed the MRI that didn’t make him change his age. In my estimation the boys should be within the age limit of 20. edi287: 1 Like |

JoebieII:Think still gonna encounter same problem in man united team where alexis, rashford and martial perfect there play in same wing department.... Here Musa, Kalu and Onyekuru are at there peak operating from left side of the wing, gonna be an issue on whom to start ahead... Unless Rohr decides striking Musa |

U20 is a far higher level compared to U17. I think this stage may be the best time to recruit all deserving FBs. We should really screen the domestic scene even if it means going down to the NNL. We need to get the best. At this level the chances of finding those that will become eventual stars is higher than the U17 level. gamaliel9: |

The zoning is going to back fire soon. wonder what those guys wana do at u17. well whatever happens I hope they get brain fast. West Africa combined have 7 u17 world cups. Well if I'm to choose between removing Hayatou and getting this new format, I'll choose removing Hayatou. 2 Likes |

I placed Kalu at the right and Musa at the left. Another option is to start Onyekuru at the left and play Musa as a CF. I think these are the best forwards we have at the moment. chiscodedon: |

If that our keeper was really bad, the Bournemouth keeper should be given a chance against CIV. I see no reason why we can’t qualify from this group and become the eventual champs. If we don’t qualify, I would t blame it in the zoning. I will blame it on our failing to screen our players thoroughly. We know our problem. We should take these things seriously daveP: |

gamaliel9: I have been preaching this gospel for long. The U20 is the main thing and not U17. We have achieved what no other country in the world has achieved at U17. 5 Gold, 3 Silver. Nothing even the Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Germany, France of this world has that record. But what have we achieved at the age grade directly after that? 2 Silver. There is definitely a disconnect. And if we fail to address it squarely we will continue to fail. And yes, you are very right at stating that the U20 is the main key to producing players for the national teams. 1 Like |

Joebie: With kalu exploits in taking crosses, we need a CF who can convert them. As regards heading in crosses, Onyekuru I know, Iheanacho I know (not too sure), but who is Musa? |

daveP: Say what? West Africa has 7! Nigeria 5 and Ghana 2. West Africa has won the last 7 CAF U17 editions: Gambia 2005 Nigeria 2007 Gambia 2009 Burkina Faso 2011 CIV 2013 Mali 2015 Mali 2017. Only South Africa, from outside the WA subregion played as losing finalists. At the World stage in the last 6 editions: Nigeria 1st 2007 Nigeria 2nd 2009 Nigeria 1st 2013 Nigeria 1st, Mali 2nd 2015 Mali 4th 2017 Plus other West African teams making Q/Finals on several occasions. I still do not understand why WAFU accepted this devilish arrangement. 1 Like |

Icon4s: This zoning thing was also used for the AWCON and u-20 afcon.. This Ahmad Ahmad wants to try at all cost to get his region more slot in Africa. A region that has always been at the bottom of the chain in Africa football. I know for sure that he won't try it with the afcon..even with d new 24 team system.. unless he wants caf to lose revenue 1 Like |

Remo Stars (NNL) player, Sodiq, transfers to Danish side Fremad Amager (first and second pictures). They seem to have a good set up. Their U17s will be participating in the third division (NLO) and their U15s recently lost a game to Lagos U15s (third and fourth pictures; U17 team not pictured). If most teams are able to emulate this and verify the ages of their age grade players it will provide a continuous supply of genuine, quality talent regardless of whether we are able to win age grade competitions or not. At least on the senior level we will see a lot of improvement. I'm sure a few people can recognize the young man on the far left in the red jersey. All the pictures are from Remo Stars twitter handle. 1 Like

That guy with captain arm band in the U15 pix is really a promising talent (forgotten his name now). You want to play Onyekuru as a 9 instead? Truth is we don’t have reliable forwards when it comes to headers. However we have midfielders that can overlap and do the job. Modified Maybe we throw in Simy then damsund: |

They claim that he was being biased toward them by not awarding them afcon hosting rights... Leaves me wondering which country apart from south Africa has the capacity to host the afcon... |
