How exactly did she do this, informally? If my boss says such to me and I find it offensive, I wouldn't confront (When people use that word, I just imagine someone talking RUDELY). I will pass my message across in a civil manner or get another superior to do it. If that doesn't work or I don't want an informal approach...

I will put it in writing and copy our superiors, maybe HR too. That is how you lay complaints in an official environment.
