You igbo youths are doing incalculable damage to the image of your tribe and coming generations of igbo in Nigeria.

What will happen if you igbos don’t get Biafra?

This bigotry has really eaten deep into the fabric of igbo society and it’s so sad to see such a big tribe languish in the abyss of hate. Is it the civil war loss that caused this?

Just consider what your children will go through in this same Nigeria where your likes have burnt bridges with other ethnic nationalities.

Everything no be play. Be serious for once.
No it is the surrender of Ilorin.

No qualms with your feelings bro.

However, they are still Nigerians and have every right to return to a country they were not born in whenever it suits them.

Its just like expecting that UK Yoruba family with quadruplets who all attended Cambridge or so, to come and do an NYSC in Nigeria that they know nothing about and do not have any residential interest in for now.

But does that stop them from associating with Nigeria much later?

Only Nigerians who departed the shores as teenagers to pursue foreign degrees return to the Nigeria they left to undertake the NYSC, not Nigerians who are "diasporans" and only know Nigeria for now as a patch on the world map.

Yet it is their country too by ancestral heritage, to return to whenever they please.

In my opinion, I think Alibaba is wrong on this one. I believe he is well read to know that ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
While serving, I had a grandpa in our Orientation camp in Kubwa who came to serve in 2015.
Mrs Kemi really knows what the law requires but decided to play a fast one.

The rule is that if you graduated before 30, you must serve whether you arrive Nigeria at 50 or 90, if you want to work here. Alibaba got it all muddled up.

My simple question is..... of what value is the NYSC self. If it's military service, we know we're serving the country. NYSC sole reason for been established is defeated. A good percentage of those who are suppose to be serving are somewhere else hustling only to show up when they know the supervisor will be coming. Tomorrow you'll say Davido served. Let the thing be scrapped and just allow students to go look for job after graduating instead of waiting almost a year for call up letter and another year somewhere in Zamfara (for those that genuinely served)

Are you too daft to understand what she wrote in her resignation? Or did you read that she left Nigeria as a teenager to go study in a university abroad, thereby necessitating the customary return to Nigeria that only exist in your own imagination?

She only visited Nigeria with her British passport on occasions. She was never a resident of Nigeria until she was 34yrs. Till today, her parents still reside in the UK where she was born.

Her interests in Nigeria only began long after she had passed the age to serve. Many Nigerians born and resident in the UK have graduated below the age of 30yrs, yet they do not come to Nigeria for any NYSC because they do not have any business with Nigeria besides visiting when a grandparent died or a cousin was wedding.

That they do not have any interest with Nigeria now does not mean they might not show an interest later.

These are the same type of Nigerians that are daily celebrated here on this forum, as working with Google or Facebook or NASA or the White House. Nigerians in the diaspora, like the ones that were on hand to receive the vice president when he visited Google in the US. Nigerians that don't even know that anything called NYSC exist as it remains irrelevant to them, until the day they decide they want to be Nigerians and not American or Briton.

So by default she made enquires about securing an exemption, and one was certainly obtained through her associates from NYSC but fake. It was not obtained under the bridge at Obalende. It was certainly obtained from NYSC officials who gave a document that was not the legitimate issue.

Many Nigerians currently hold particulars that they think is legitimate having been obtained at the legitimate relevant government office, yet they are invalid.

It's you that is too daft to understand the NYSC law which is quite explicit in stating that provided you're Nigerian and finished school under 30, it is mandatory to serve.

You only obtain a certificate of exemption if you finish over 30.

Living outside the shores of the country all your life does not exclude you from the dictates of the law. After all, Ignorance is no excuse for contravention of the law. So even if she made an honest mistake due to wrong advice that doesn't absolve her of guilt.

The discussion now should be towards reviewing the NYSC law for situations as this but as the law stands now, provided she wanted to serve in public office in Nigeria and not private practice, she should have served.

Yes she did the right thing to resign, albeit late but should go one step further to return all monies she has earned in public office using this fake certificate.

As for those who it is rumoured have engineered this scandal for political gains, the onus is on EFCC and the DSS to assiduously work to investigate these claims and if confirmed mercilessly expose and prosecute the perpetrators.

This is the most daft post i have ever seen in my "short" stay on Nairaland.

Regardless of whom she enlisted to get her the exemption certificate, she bears the full moral responsibility for certificate debacle.

Corruption has eaten too deep that people have become unconscious to it.

Kemi graduated before 30yrs nd came to Nigeria wen she was 34 by the NYSC she was eligible for service

Ali Baba is ignorant of the NYSC law:

1) NYSC does not issue EXEMPTION to everyone above 30yrs. Excemption is only for those who are ABOVE 30yrs AT THE TIME OF GRADUATION. Kemi was 22 at the time of graduation.

2) If you graduate at an age below 30 and fail to serve (like Kemi Adeosun), the NYSC law says you must serve even if you attain the age of 80. No EXCEPTION for such people.

This is the problem you end up with when a comedian wants to dabble into politics that he knows nothing about. The sad part is that this indicates a lack of basic comprehension skills and not even the ability to undertake any major analytical thought. The operative part of the NYSC Act simply states that "with effect from 1st August, 1985, a person shall not be called upon to serve in the service corps if; at the date of his graduation or obtaining his diploma or other professional qualification -he is over the age of thirty...". For those like Ali Baba who cannot comprehend, the important point is at the time of graduation or obtaining his diploma or other professional qualification. Thus, if you are below 30 years old at that time, whenever you decide to work in Nigeria (even if your are 70 years old then) you are required to serve. Oga Alibaba, nobody said she claimed to have served, she had also not "clearly passed the age to serve" as you erroneously state because she graduated at 22 by her own admission.
All the other categories of people you refer to would be liable to prosecution if found guilty, by all means prosecute them if you are able to, this fact does not take anything away from Kemi Adeosun's guilt. Stick to comedy

Most of these so called celebrities are actually dumb! Take a look at the trash alibaba just posted. Didn't he know that there's a difference between age of graduation and age of return to Nigeria? Even if Adeosun returned to Nigeria at the age of 100, as long as she graduated while below 30, the law states that she must serve.

And no, NYSC did not give her an exemption certificate because she obviously is not qualified for that since she graduated while belwo 30; she got it from crooked means.

Do we not celebrate the likes of Chinwetei Ejiofor or the many Nigerians who are currently full fledged Americans and Britons and are university graduates in the only society they know?

Good of you to say the bolded, and she did do so as you opined, but has now realised it was a fake document she got from NYSC, because they really don't give such exemptions with such circumstances however genuine they are.
