This might sound ignorant but I still don’t understand what the hullabaloo is all about.

Is it not that foolish NYSC certificate that I don’t know where I flinged it in my house? Even though I used it to secure the jobs I have done, I still think with respect to Mrs Adeosun, she should not have been vilified for the authenticity or otherwise of her exemption certificate given her peculiar case of having been misled by unscrupulous elements who assured her that her was genuine.

Her vilification would have been justified if she forged her college or university certificates, which would have undermined her integrity and the legitimacy of her Office. I just feel she was a victim of high wired ethnic politics by those who have an ax to grind with her and the Yoruba tribe. My joy is that she has left Nigeria with all her rot and gone back to the UK whicih is a saner clime than naija.

I am only worried for the blot this scandal will create on her record in view of future engagements.
Why she left the Uk to come work in Nigeria as a Nigerian is beyond me. Despite all the come home and make Nigeria better. It has never worked well. Look at Barth Nnaji, Okonjo Iweala and now Adeosun. You really have to be criminally minded to survive in Nigeria's political environment.

I could come to work in Nigeria as an expatriate but never as a Nigerian. As an expatriate, my country of citizenship would be looking out for me and I would get all the perks and benefit associated with it.

To all those calling for her to be prosecuted. Tough luck. She would have renounced her Nigerian citizenship on arrival to the UK. If you can't bring home a full blooded Nigerian for prosecution from the UK e.g Diezani, how on earth would you accomplish that with a British Citizen?

Nigeria's politics is indeed toxic. Aunty Kemi is lucky she has British Citizenship. Even if she was arrested, all she needed to do was renounce her Nigerisn citizenship and her Majesty's goverment would fully protect her before whisking her away to britain.

Remember the Canadian prostitute girls that Otedola tried to prosecute for blackmailing. It was only when they did not show up for their court appearance that the Nigerian law enforcement realised that the Canadian Government had whisked them away to Canada.

Good of you to say the bolded, and she did do so as you opined, but has now realised it was a fake document she got from NYSC, because they really don't give such exemptions with such circumstances however genuine they are.
You sound so sure she was not aware that the certificate she was parading was fake. The question is; How can you be so sure the woman didn't know exactly what she was doing but ''has now realised it was a fake document she got from NYSC''? How can you be so sure? You just take her word for it, just like that? NYSC came out to say that she applied for exemption, one can deduce the only response she would have gotten from them, knowing she graduated before 30years. It can only mean she sought for a fradulent alternative somewhere else after the requested exemption was turned down by NYSC.

From @alibabagcfr - Many people are getting the Kemi Adeosun NYSC matter wrong. She did not claim to have served. She came back to Nigeria when she had passed the age to serve. She was then advised to get a certificate of exemption. She did not think it was necessary because, clearly she had passed the age.

Whether she applied for exemption or did not beause of having passed the AGE is not the Issue

THE FACTS OF THE MATTER IS THAT SHE IS NOT IN A POSITION TO SERVE VIA NYSC & SHE IS
THE FINANCE MINISTER OF NIGERIA FOR CRYING OUT LOUD....WHAT DO YOU EXPECT HER TO DO

THIS IS A NON ISSUE THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE COME UP.....IF IT WAS AN ISSUE WHY DID THEY NOT ASK HER
TO RESIGN WHEN SHE WAS FINANCE COMMISSIONER OF OGUN STATE?

WHO IS IN CHARGE OF GOVT EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENT OVERSIGHT & COMPLIANCE.IN THE BUHARI APC REGIME..HE/SHE IN CHARGE OF THAT NEEDS TO BE SACKED !!!

The person who did, SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN HER A LEGIT ONE. She didn't need to be present to get an exemption. So, it's not that she claimed to have served and was issued a certificate for service she did not render. How about Yellow fever vaccine card? Do you know how many people pick up their yellow fever card at the airport, only to reach destination and are told it's fake. I have talked with some people in the corridors of power. The certificate is not the real reason she resigned. It's the reason given. It's election year. Just like #NOI... There are people who want access to certain federal funds, that only she has access to. And like #NOI, she will not play ball. No justification for her actions, forgery is a crime under the 467 of the Criminal Code Act of Nigeria thus must face the consequence of the crime she committed. Ali baba should quit this mediocrity mentality and get with the system. The age limit for mobilization to participate in the compulsory service year is 30 Years Old at the time of graduation from school but she graduated when she was 22 years old and her certificate indicate 22 years, she must go participate in the service. She need to return all the salaries and allowances she collected while serving as a Finance Minister.

Are you too daft to understand what she wrote in her resignation? Or did you read that she left Nigeria as a teenager to go study in a university abroad, thereby necessitating the customary return to Nigeria that only exist in your own imagination?

She only visited Nigeria with her British passport on occasions. She was never a resident of Nigeria until she was 34yrs. Till today, her parents still reside in the UK where she was born.

Her interests in Nigeria only began long after she had passed the age to serve. Many Nigerians born and resident in the UK have graduated below the age of 30yrs, yet they do not come to Nigeria for any NYSC because they do not have any business with Nigeria besides visiting when a grandparent died or a cousin was wedding.

That they do not have any interest with Nigeria now does not mean they might not show an interest later.

These are the same type of Nigerians that are daily celebrated here on this forum, as working with Google or Facebook or NASA or the White House. Nigerians in the diaspora, like the ones that were on hand to receive the vice president when he visited Google in the US. Nigerians that don't even know that anything called NYSC exist as it remains irrelevant to them, until the day they decide they want to be Nigerians and not American or Briton.

So by default she made enquires about securing an exemption, and one was certainly obtained through her associates from NYSC but fake. It was not obtained under the bridge at Obalende. It was certainly obtained from NYSC officials who gave a document that was not the legitimate issue.

Many Nigerians currently hold particulars that they think is legitimate having been obtained at the legitimate relevant government office, yet they are invalid.
This is a terrible interpretation of the NYSC law or decree. Please find premium times and read the story. Then you can get the nysc decree and read painstakingly. Ali baba displayed crass ignorance above.

It's you that is too daft to understand the NYSC law which is quite explicit in stating that provided you're Nigerian and finished school under 30, it is mandatory to serve.

You only obtain a certificate of exemption if you finish over 30.

Living outside the shores of the country all your life does not exclude you from the dictates of the law. After all, Ignorance is no excuse for contravention of the law. So even if she made an honest mistake due to wrong advice that doesn't absolve her of guilt.

The discussion now should be towards reviewing the NYSC law for situations as this but as the law stands now, provided she wanted to serve in public office in Nigeria and not private practice, she should have served.

Yes she did the right thing to resign, albeit late but should go one step further to return all monies she has earned in public office using this fake certificate.

As for those who it is rumoured have engineered this scandal for political gains, the onus is on EFCC and the DSS to assiduously work to investigate these claims and if confirmed mercilessly expose and prosecute the perpetrators.
You must take one bottle of Ace for my head.. Kudos!!

Interesting feedback.

So are you saying anyone who qualified to serve at the age of their university graduation, are still legitimately allowed to be mobilised for NYSC even when they are already adults?

Is that arrangement allowed as per NYSC statutes?

All I have been harping about is her circumstances being a Briton living in her foreign society where she had no business with NYSC then. This same circumstance is still prevalent with many foreigners of Nigerian heritage, who may someday want to associate with their Nigerian roots and work with the Nigerian government in public office.

Of course it is, during my service year in abraka liking, there was one man we normally call PA Mike, he explained he was forced to come over and serve before he will be given a job with a bank in Abuja... He even said he will just do the mandatory 3 weeks orientation and head to Abuja to pick the job while waiting for the certificate
