I think you should let her go.

When hiring domestics you need to define what you want and need plus also set boundaries.

Some of the niceties you offered aren't necessities as far as I'm concerned. If you've provided tv in her room that's more than fair and enough. All that coming to knock on your door for tv is needless and taking the piss as far as I'm concerned .
.she's older and like a typical Nigerian thinks she's your mum and not your employee.

With older employees it's better to keep things professional and remain firm in your stance on certain things eg the moin moin isn't satisfactory ma, kindly Make another batch.

Good luck but I think this wahala is needless as you are a young couple . If you don't like cooking get a cook to bulk cook every weekend or order meals and soups.
.Nigeria has those kind of stuff easily available now just check Instagram!

My problem with a lot of wives is that in the quest to employ househelps that will not sleep with their husbands, they will either employ minor (8 years to 14 years) or a grand ma whom they cant control.
That woman does nothing, she is even too old and entitled. I would advise you let her go and get a younger person that you can control.
I have an 18 year ols help. I leave the house by 7am and return by 6pm and I am not worried cos my son is well fed, the house is well cared for before I return. If she does something I dont like I correct her immediately. For me, any help that cannot take charge, cook, in my absence is useless to me. You no come my house come sleep, na work you come work.
Put gotv in the help's room if the dstv is not dual view. So that she does not need to come sit in the parlour.,

I don't see the need for a maid. Get a washing machine and find a way to make your meals for the week on weekends. Store in a refrigerator.

See how much you spend on her in a month:

N30,000 (salary) + N20,000 (cost of her meal for a month) + N10,000 (fully service accommodation with gotv) + N5000 (other contingency, e.g. health bill)

= N65,000.

Please deduct N65,000 from your net monthly salary (i.e. after deducting cost of transportation and tax) and see whether this is worth the stress. She's probably making more money, relaxing more, and spending more time on the TV than you do.

Nanny in Nigeria na SLAVE o! cheesy

You expect a 50 year-old to run around like a spring chicken? undecided

I hope you live outside Nigeria biko?
Nanny in Nigeria should be in early 20s to 30s only! They are usually OVER-WORKED like slaves!

What exactly were u expecting from a 50 years old?

No mention of child/children, what do you need a maid For?

You and hubby should clean up after yourselves.

Thanks for the calculation but currently in my first trimester (pregnant ).Trying to reduce stress as much as possible,
First trimester? Is it a high risk pregnancy undecided

Get a proper maid, lots of companies offering that that will come and leave each day or arrange for someone to come clean, laundry and iron, cook in bulk for the whole week over the weekend.

If you require a service of an older person you need to be professional about it,let her know all she had to do daily and in my own view younger once are better because they have energy to work.
How can you mop once in a week and you are been paid 30k?my house is mopped twice daily, swept as much as its needed, cloth washed everyday but I cook my food and care for my kids so pls get a younger girl to give you rest of mind .

Hubby is hardly around.
So?

You need her as a companion or you can't clean up after yourself and/or make your own meals?

Wow ....casket. hmmmmmmm. My dear, she is enjoying I bet u. Another issue I figured out is her freedom. she is new in this terrain around 21 days and doesn't have friends. I even suggested to her to take a walk and refresh herself. Ordinarily she should have a day off. Her job scope is limited. Trust me. It's also possible her strength may be failing her. I respect her rest/siesta time

A 50 year old cannot be a NANNY!
Too physically and mentally tired!
Prolly depressed too. . . With all her domestic issues! kiss

Even to do “Omugwo”, they can’t manage.
Please, rest the old bones. grin

Spacious and clean houses ( occupants clean after themselves as they SHOULD) do not need to be cleaned daily. It's not a factor of how much the maid is being paid.

Na person born that person wey dey mop your house twice daily .

Thinking I could manage her till December at least I will be better by then and she also should have saved some cash for herself. Sending her off the first month may show lack of tolerance but if within three months issues keep coming up then it means she has serious issues/attitude problem
She does not have attitude problems o. Read Kanwulias posts again.

I wish u lots of luck for The next 3 months and quit complaining.

[quote author=Joyfulgal post=71364832]Good morning everyone,
Let me start by saying I am not a perfect person. I will try to be as honest as possible. On the 29th of August I got a nanny. Here's a brief description of her. She claims to be God fearing, around 50 years, separated from her husband, has 5 kids. She calls me daughter and I call her mama/mummy.

The first three days she came, she was sick , but was treated (malaria ). Two weeks into her stay, she complained of body itching note she has a room and toilet to herself. Drinks good c - way water and bathe of course with clean water. Diagnosis was allergy. Just yesterday, she started complaining of neck pains. When she told me her age, I told her at this stage, she needs retirement but she says no one to provide for her needs. Meaning she needs the job and salary. She will be paid #30,000 monthly. Remember she's a stay home nanny.i provide her meals and medicals and may occasionally buy her clothes.

She lives with me and hubby. My hubby washes his clothes and car. So the only thing needed from her ìs a nice meal at the right time. I also told her, he doesn't joke with his meals. The first week,we had issues with her . She forgot the egusi at home and went to the market. Sure there was issues. The meal wasn't prepared on time. Two days later she messed up moimoi, it was on a Saturday after long hours of waiting for the meal , she served a meal that was half cooked. Hubby told her to cook again. And left the house angrily. I returned and ate the meal and also complained that the meal wasn't properl
Let her go
