If even 1% of this is remotely true, profoundly sad and disheartening.
Never mind strategic questions like how an entire battalion can just be converted to SF, or tactical questions about battalion indirect fires, do grunts really have to pay for their uniforms? And why are soldiers' salaries given to commanders to disburse, instead of deposited directly from DHQ into a soldier's bank account?

If any of the stuff I've just read in that article bears any semblance to reality, my respect for my fellow comrades in arms in the NA increases 100-fold for all they have to endure while taking the uniform.

Sadique Abubakar has money to commission buildings monthly but Burantai keeps his soldiers in dormitories, if you can't adapt to troop ambush, cant adapt to outpost attacks, cant adapt to suicide bombings, cant even provide welfare, imagine NA not yet on IPPS while Navy and Airforce are.
Can someone give me two reasons why Burantai is still keeping his job?

My Goodness I literally tasted utter disgust while reading it. Never mind the bollocks about Bn, i have mentioned twice here that these ones are understaffed (I vividly sighted 111SF Bn as having less than 190 men)
The part of allowance I can testify cause I have an acquaintance in theatre.
As for the uniform parts I thought it ended with the last administration

In all I wish its not entirely true but if it is I am not entirely surprised because from time immemorial its been a "crime" to be Other ranks in the Army.

No be today way Nigerian army start this dog eat dog corruption.

I was hoping that PMB as he promised during the campaign, will bring this sort of official impunity to an end.

But really the emperor has no clothes. Bihari delegates, and turns a blind eye to the results.

General Buratai is the biggest disappointment. Oga Spartacus, how many houses you one buy ?

In Liberia, they budgeted billions usd, and short changed the troops.

2 mi-24 attack helicopters could have put Taylor out of business, but no Na sacrificed thousands of troops instead.

The same in Sierra Leone .billions was spent, but soldiers were extremely under equipped.

This is an abomination. It's akin to a mother that steals food from her babies. This is unacceptable everywhere but in the Nigerian armed forces.

Nigerians wake up to the injustice being perpetrated in your name. For the day of reckoning comets. And ignorance would not suffice as an excuse

I'm surprised with alot here. The issue of wearing sandals to the front line is never the issue of the military command but a choice by an individual. I don't know much about the but the NAF has a good accommodation for us here.

I have some issues with some soldiers thinking they're SF while they're not. What happened is some have basic SF training but if you don't complete the required training, the military command does not see you as a special force officer. The training is to allow you adapt very quick to coin.

The post has some truth in it but then, I have several objections.

The army should take but and make corrections where neccesary.

Oga all expensive, with all due respect, the Air Force while not tainted under Sadique, was a ses pool of corruption under Baden and GEJ's administration.
Even our defense minister has a published case in the press where Nigeria was contracted to deliver a MASH unit to the UN forces in Mali.
The money was disbursed in Nigeria but the mash unit never materialized in Mali.

The contract was later given to Rwanda, who executed it to the T. So, they gain a MASH unit, and all sorts of life saving skills and equipment.
They also get reimbursed by the UN, plus salary.

And Nigeria gets a reputation of non delivery of key UN projects and irresponsibility. Plus the money is missing and the same man is still the overall boss of our military

We in the SANDF have our problems, like any military. I'm just perplexed that the same issues come up with the NA for a decade now without seemingly any resolution. And it seems mostly endemic to the one arm of service. We had Nigerian Navy, Air Force and Army pax at courses in SA - when I was coming up the ranks, complaining of similar issues. 10 years later, it's only the Army guys still complaining of the very same issues. The other services guys still complain of course - all militaries have problems - but the issues of which they complain have changed. Indicating progress.

I once asked a question here and the other thread about why the Nigerian military - which has more soldiers than the SANDF - doesn't employ the 1:3 deployment ratio for a year which is the general standard we employ.
1 soldier on deployment; 1 on R&R; 1 on courses; 1 on training for deployment. All I got was obfuscation, insults and braggadocio that Nigeria was fighting a real war and soldiers' welfare is something only peacetime militaries can afford.

Never mind all the science that soldiers' effectiveness deteriorates after 12 months on the field.

I remember vividly the brouhaha on the deployment time.

Little things the Army overlooks that dampen morale, more often than expected they play to the gallery.

I take it you command men in battle. Do you allow them the choice of wearing scandals to the front line?
Whose fault but their commanders that washed out SF candidates RTU with some sense of entitlement?

Might seem unfair, commanders are always on the hook for subordinates' FUBAR. At least that's what I believe.

Few years ago all the middle class youngsters interested in a military career I knew who couldn't get into the Navy and Air Force were going to the UK, Israel, US, Canadian and Australian militaries for mainly 2 reasons. They mistakenly perceived the SANDF to have no place for them because of their white skins. Secondarily because they thought no action in the SANDF. Then Battle of Bangui happened. And FIB in DRC. Now they realise they'll see action in the SANDF and parlay that experience into opportunities elsewhere and also progress within the SANDF as the political dynamics are changing.

If South Africa can alter the dynamics of its military after 24 years of change, I see no reason why Nigeria, with the requisite political will, cannot. After all, both our countries came to real civilian democracy at the same time.

Oga odunayaw, integrity is everything. If you lack it, even your doctrine will be believed by no one. So since corruption knows no bounds in military as well as ciivillian Nigeria, one can't really be sure if our doctors are real doctors or if our special forces are really the best of the best.
We on this blog can't even tell why buratai and co are against re equipping the military. Is it just greed ? Or not being patriotic enough.

So, if there is not a radical turnaround in this military, it WILL Collapse. And when that happens, how do you intend to protect your interests in nigeria?

Lol, you may still have to pay someone.

NAF DEPLOYS MEDICAL TEAM TO ZUNGERU TO ASSIST FLOOD VICTIMS IN NIGER STATE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed a Team of medical experts to Zungeru in Wushishi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State as part of humanitarian efforts geared towards alleviating the plights of the victims of the recent flood that ravaged the State. The medical outreach, which commenced today, 20 September 2018, is taking place at the Central Primary School Zungeru, where close to 1,000 flood victims now temporarily reside, and is expected to cater to the health needs of about 5,000 members of the Zungeru community.

The NAF Medical Team is led by Group Captain Azubuike Chukwuka, the Director of Public Health and Humanitarian Services, Headquarters NAF, who stated that the 5-day medical outreach is an initiative of the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, as part NAF’s constitutional role of providing Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA). He stated that the medical services that would be provided included health and visual acuity checks, de-worming of children as well as provision of prescription eye glasses, treated mosquito nets and required medication. He also noted that minor surgical procedures would be carried out for patients with surgical needs.

A large number of displaced persons benefited from the medical services on the first day of the outreach, which was witnessed by the Commander 351 Base Services Group NAF Base Minna, Group Captain Suleiman Usman as well as the State Coordinator Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Mrs Hajiya Saratu and the Chairman of Wushishi LGA, Alhaji Bashir Umar Maishanu. It would be recalled that the NAF also recently held a special medical intervention in Shinkafi, Zamfara State, where about 4,600 Internally Displaced Persons, who were victims of armed banditry, benefited from medical care.

MINISTRY OF LABOUR ASSESSMENT TEAM PAYS VISIT TO NAFIL TAILORING WORKSHOP, COMMENDS NAF FOR REDUCING UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG YOUTHS

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has commended the efforts of the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) Tailoring Workshop at reducing unemployment among youths in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base and surrounding communities in Kaduna. The commendation was made yesterday, 21 September 2018, during an assessment tour of the Workshop by a Team from the Ministry led by the Director, Skills Development and Certification Department, Mr Ibrahim Jibia. The visit was to assess the facilities and overall environment of the Workshop for the purpose of accreditation to issue recognized certificates. Mr Jibia, who expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the workshop, stated that the Ministry would endeavour to certify the workshop so that its graduates would be accorded the desired recognition in the labour market.

Conducting the team round the facility, the Managing Director NAFIL, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Bagare, who was represented by the Deputy Managing Director, Air Commodore Uchechi Nwagwu, stated that the workshop was commissioned by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, on 8 June 2017, with the aim of domesticating the sewing of NAF uniforms. He disclosed that prior to the establishment of the Workshop, NAF uniforms were imported from abroad or contracted to local vendors at very high cost. This domestication, he said, has significantly reduced overall cost for the NAF thereby generating savings for the Service that could be channeled to other pressing needs. He further stated that about 52,000 pairs of various types of NAF uniforms had been sewn in the workshop. Apart from sewing uniforms for the NAF, Air Commodore Nwagwu disclosed that NAFIL Tailoring Workshop also sews uniforms for some major security outfits as well as other private organisations, such as Baze University in Abuja, whilst also training tailors from within and outside the Base. With a total staff strength of 106, comprising an officer, 37 airmen/airwomen and 68 civilians, the workshop runs round the clock in 3 shifts with 92 different types of industrial cloth-making machines.
