Nice update but, been following to see where the story is heading. This Torpedo what is it exactly? Does it haue a spiritual significance attached to it? Like the bearer gets to become invinsible or something?
Why were Jamal and Chris kidnapped and taken? for what purpose? Are they both like two sides of a coin? Opposite to each other but of equal capacity n value?

Or are the parallel, heading for close to thesame destiny yet never to meet?

What is the purpose of their training? To whom is it to benefit?

Although I am enjoy this tale, there are many things I am yet to have a full grasp of here. I hope to understand soon.

You are doing a good work here. Is this your first novel? Or have you written one or two before? Zhayyd039

Yes, it's my first, sir.
Thank you for raising those questions. I do hope to be able to shed some light on those areas in coming chapters. Thanks.

The dark room had only one source of illumination; a small window. The air was humid and smelt of burnt leaves, "essence," as his teacher liked to call them.
Chris sat topless at the centre of the room, with his legs folded in front of him. He had been at it for three days. He inhaled more "essential smoke", filling his lungs and allowing the gas to "cleanse" him from the inside. He felt his muscles tense, then relax. He smiled at himself, letting his mind drift to five months ago, in the rain.
**Five Months Ago**
Water dripped onto the cemented ground as the rain penetrated the poorly constructed thatch roof. The dripping sound didn't seem to bother the others as much as it irritated Chris. He shifted his weight and tried to block out the outside noise.
"Meditation is having inner peace," the instructor explained, waving his hands in the air like an orchestrator; "even when the outside is in conflict."
Chris looked at the other students. There were five in total, all looking as cold as ice. Training had been like hell on earth. They all sat, tucking their legs beneath them. Even in the harsh weather, they were topless. They all seemed to appreciate the fact that the room had no windows. For a split second, Chris wondered how many ghost organizations were in existence. The voice of the instructor snapped him back. "Get the balance," the voice paused as thunder rumbled, "and you can conquer anything." Lighting flashed through the roof, illuminating the man's sallow face and pale skin.
************
Chris opened his eyes as soon as he heard the beeping sound; dinner time.
He hit the shower and was on his way to the ship deck in twenty minutes.
************
"Are you a ghost?" Princess Tula asked. Her eyes sparkled as she glanced at Jamal.
"I'm not," he replied. They stood at the river bed, watching the sun set. "I was supposed to be, but we were compromised."
"Do you want to be one?" She asked again.
Jamal stared at the red sun for a while, thinking of an appropriate answer. "No."
"Why?"
"They failed to convince me."
"They freed you from captivity, did they not?"
Jamal scoffed. "And then what? I was sent touring the world for no reason."
The princess cleared her voice and fell silent.
"Ghosts invaded my village once." She said out of the blue. "Killed my mum."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Jamal said. He was surprised at the conviction behind his voice; he felt for her.
She nodded. "You said you met an old man? With a staff?"
"Yeah. You know him?" Jamal asked, surprised.
"No," she said flatly as she turned to leave. "Just a strange occurrence."
He picked up his backpack and followed her to the camp site where a small fire was burning with four tents set up a few metres away from it. She led him to her tent -the biggest- and they both entered. Nobody seemed too worried about a stranger with the princess. No matter his fighting skills, he was outnumbered. Ten to one. It was a silent agreement.
"What brought you -a princess- out here?" Jamal asked once seated.
"I like the wild," she gestured with her hand. "It's far more fun than having to put up with the king and his princes."
Jamal nodded. "But it's unsafe out here; this morning was proof of that."
She smiled coyly, "are you worried about me?"
Jamal shrugged and picked up an apple.
"You are an…abstract person, you know?" She said.
"You are the first person to tell me that," he said.
She laughed and crawled over to cover the distance between them. "Really?"
"As hell of a yeah as you not respecting my personal space," he muttered.
Her hand touched his cheek. The warmth was overwhelming. She slowly moved closer, her lips touching his. Then she pulled back abruptly.
"What's wrong?" Jamal asked sheepishly.
"He's here," she said, terror in her eyes.
"Who?"
Before she could answer, a voice called from outside, "Princess Tula! Come on out here and I'll spare your servants!"
Jamal quickly pulled off his coat and grabbed a spear from somewhere nearby. "Stay here. And don't say anything until I'm back," he whispered and blew out the candle.
Whatever courage he had was blown out of him as soon as he stepped outside.
The identical mask he saw that night and the overflowing coat. Then a release of air. "How interesting," the man said.
"What's going on," Jamal said, positioning his spear in front of him, "Fujikashi."

"We've finally got an explanation to the book you brought back from the island," said Eric as he settled for a seat in Chris' cabin. "The book was encrypted and locked with a key."
"A key?" Chris asked; he didn't remember seeing a key when he retrieved the book.
"Yes. The analysts said the missing page provides the decryption method," Eric explained. "For someone of Ghost status, the writer was quite careless."
Chris fell silent for a while, seemingly weighing his options.
"Or he was also trying to figure the book out?"
Eric's eyes narrowed. He exited the room without uttering another word.

Faruk knocked heavily on the thick oak door and pushed without waiting for an answer. He halted in his tracks as he saw Kelvin seated with the General.
"Am I interrupting something?"
Kelvin shook his head, "not at all. I was just leaving." And with an icy glare at both of them, he left the room, closing the door silently behind him.
Faruk adjusted his tie, "what's that about?"
David heaved a sigh, almost of relief. "Kelvin is something else." He opened his drawer and produced an uncut cigar. "What was the urgency about?"
Faruk slowly sat in Kelvin's seat and cleared his throat, "we lost track of the detail on Kelvin." He saw David's eyes flash. "Three months ago."
"And nobody thought I should've known?!" General David fumed. "Why the hell is that?"
"The security team had been keeping it quiet," Faruk whispered. "Under Kelvin's instructions, I presume."
"What are you insinuating?" David knew about Faruk's quick thinking; that was the same brain that engineered his own brother's death. "You think he's up to something?"
"Not exactly." Faruk replied. "I think he's stalling us."
** At the entrance of the C.T Securities building stood Kelvin with a Bluetooth device in his ear. Just that it wasn't a Bluetooth device at all: it was another one of his high-end spying device which allowed it's user to stick a small magnetic speaker to a target and all conversations would be transferred in high quality mp3 format to the earpiece device.
Kelvin smiled at the two guards stationed at the entrance as he pulled out his car keys.

"Give it up, kid. We both know you won't fight me; because you can't!" Fujikashi hissed through his mask.
"I'm not going to step back and watch you kill innocent people," Jamal retorted. "You'll have to get past me first."
"She is not innocent," Fujikashi said, "her father…her invasive tribe massacred my people!"
"So you take revenge?" Jamal asked. "If you want vengeance then you take it out on her father."
"You were among the ghosts that killed my family, Fujikashi," the princess said as she stormed out of the tent.
It happened fast. Fujikashi dashed towards her, unsheathing his katana as he did so. Twenty metres became five in a matter of seconds. Jamal shifted, positioning himself in front of her. The first slash was light, a dummy. Jamal blocked it by making the spear horizontal over his head. The second slash quickly followed, across the body. Jamal twisted, dodging by millimeters before sending a straight thrust of his own towards the head. Fujikashi dodged easily, as predicted, allowing Jamal the opening to send a strong roundhouse kick to his chest, sending the veteran crashing to the ground. The royal guards waited for no invitation as they charged at their downed nemesis.
Fujikashi, caught offguard by Jamal's newfound strength, jumped up. The first guard showed too much; sending a spear thrust towards the body. Fujikashi rewarded that mistake with a spin sideways to the back of his opponent, grabbing him by the head an snapping the neck. The second guard slashed wildly. Fujikashi dodged the attacks accurately, making sure to be far yet so close. With a grunt he grabbed the spear and pulled it towards him. Failing to match Fujikashi's strength, the guard stumbled forward, falling right in front of the enemy.
Fujikashi wasted no time in raising the spear in the air, making to thrust it at the opposition but he saw quick movement on his left. He evaded the first attack but couldn't evade the second punch. He quickly repositioned his body and blocked the attack. He found himself face to face with Jamal just as the metallic mask cracked.
"Never turn your back on your real opponent," Jamal chided.
The air immediately went cold and a slow breeze started to fizz across the land.
"Watch it, kid," Fujikashi warned. "Don't celebrate a small battle until you've won the war."
"Enough…" Jamal said, sending three quick powerful punches to Fujikashi's arms -which covered his face.
The punches would have been enough to snap the bones of an average person in half, Princess Tula observed; but Fujikashi was no ordinary person at all. There was a reason he was called Fuji no Yurei; the Ghost of Fuji.

JAMAL INHALED sharply as he clutched his side. The last attack struck him square around the liver area. He could feel the area swelling which hampered his movement. He coughed.
"What's wrong?" Fujikashi mocked. "I'm getting too fast for your liking?"
Jamal tightened his grip around the spear, more for support than as a weapon. The pain was getting worse; it was spreading. The right side of his body was getting numb. He grit his teeth. If Fujikashi attacked again, it could be trouble for both himself and the princess.
"The more you move the more the pain would spread," Fujikashi explained, "until you can't move an inch!" He moved towards Jamal with an air of confidence. "I'll take the girl now."
Jamal shuffled sideways. The girl stood rooted to her spot in front of the camp. She was about a metre-and-a-half away yet it felt like the pain were counterweights to slow him down; Fujikashi was already three metres away. "Damn it. Run!" Jamal shouted at the girl -whose face was full of terror- but she didn't move an inch. Jamal soon saw why: a small metallic object the size of a needle pierced her neck. It glinted in the light.
"While you were busy playing hero," Fujikashi said, "I took the initiative to pin my target."
Jamal sank to the ground, the spear falling with him. The numbness had spread from right side to lower half of his body. His breathing felt laboured. He heard the princess whimper.
"Tula," Fujikashi muttered as he flicked a finger on her cheek. "You are just collateral damage. And for that I'm sorry." He walked away from her and picked Jamal's spear. "But first, I'll let you watch your hero die. That is the brutal reality of life."
Fujikashi raised the spear high in the air. Jamal looked haplessly at the hollowed eyes staring down at him. His whole body had paralyzed. He closed his eyes, waiting for the coup d'grace.

THE BED creaked a bit as Faruk used the sleeve of his shirt to wipe the sweat on his forehead. He let out a grunt as he peaked. He saw the silhouette of the woman on the bed writhe in pleasure. He held his breath for a few seconds.
The woman sighed. "I have to go."
"I ordered dinner already," Faruk said as he sat at the egde of the bed to remove the rest of his clothing. He looked out of the window. "And the rain hasn't stopped."
He heard the woman giggle as she appeared behind him. A shock ran through his spine when he felt her warm n*ked body on his back. He moaned. Quickly taking off his tie and shirt. She giggled again.
Jessica was more or less what Faruk needed: a distraction from the corporate lifestyle he's led throughout his existence. He had had many flings and one-night stands but he came to believe that this one was different. He couldn't pinpoint what exactly led to it but getting into a romantic relationship with his friend's sister seemed to be the missing piece of jigsaw in his puzzle. It was through her persuasion David promoted him -from whatever he was since joining CT Securities- to Vice Director. All in a week.
Her lips travelled from his neck down to his back. She wrapped her arms around his body as he reached for her, their lips locking. She pulled out gently, pulling him to bed. "What's on your mind?"
"Just…thoughts!" He breathed before waving it off. "Let's focus on the moment and worry about other people later, shall we?"
Without further delay, he reached between them and guided himself in one more time

CHRIS STEPPED on the accelerator and maneuvered the Range Rover with great ease past other cars on the Lagos expressway. The signboards indicated the bridge was twenty kilometers away. Just then, Chris' phone chimed.
"Answer call," he shouted at the phone connected to the dashboard then waited for the connection to be secured.
"Change of plans," the male voice announced. "Target has been tipped on potential threats. He's on the run."
"I was expecting that," Chris replied as he overtook the taxi in front. The sun appeared from beneath the clouds in the sky ahead, momentarily blinding him. "F*ck!" He cursed, stepping on the brakes and narrowly missing a hawker on the roadside.
"We've just been updated that the target has booked a flight to Cairo in nine hours tops," the voice said. "Mission codename: Hot Icing." And the line went dead.
Chris exhaled. This was his first mission assignment. The objectives were plain and simple: locate Godwin Paul and put him down.
For unknown reasons.
He was only told that the target would be attending a ceremony of sort to welcome his celebrity brother at one of the luxurious event halls in Ikorodu. A file describing the target was given to Chris a week ago, depicting a middle-aged man, light complexion, chiselled jawlines covered in a low stubble, and a pair of diamond earrings on both ears. Every other thing on the file read CONFIDENTIAL.
But that was all Chris needed. Extra info simply complicated matters. He had simply opened his laptop -a few days ago- and ran a face rec on the government database with simple search parameters: ticket ID. So when a match was found, it linked the match with every possible location that name was used for any transactions. Chris knew most rich people used credit cards for purchases which made them easily traceable. He found his target in no time at all. He had been buying things around Ikorodu district, which meant he was there.
The bridge took thirty minutes to cross due to the heavy traffic. As soon as he had managed to cross it, Chris bottomed the accelerator and zoomed off, veering sharply and working hairpin bends with superb skill.
*************
Jamal watched the spearhead glint in the blanket of the night one last time, as it came down. Everything seemed to turn and move in bullet time. Jamal closed his eyes and was immediately welcomed by a sharp gut-wrentching pain in his abdomen where the spear made contact. The thought to shout but nothing came out as he choked on his own blood. His insides felt warm being soaked in blood. Light dimmed as darkness covered him. He took one last inhale of air, and his body went numb.
*************
KELVIN WATCHED in fascination at the being in front of him; Freddy. He stood stark still like a robot. Muscles twisted and wired all over his body. Kelvin poked a finger at his abdomen. "It's hard."
Laura turned around from what she was doing on the lab table, "Yeah. Took some time to figure out a way to convert all the excess fats to muscle."
"Wonderful," Kelvin muttered. "But why isn't he talking or…" he opened and closed his hands, "…or moving?"
"Adjusted some nerves and removed some cells in his system," Laura explained. "Would revive him after adding some finishing touches."
Kelvin laughed. "With all these muscles, what more could he need."
Laura stood beside him. She looked squarely at Kelvin. "How to use his body. You want a weapon against your father, don't you?"
Kelvin's smile faded. He nodded sharply.
"Then we have got to make," she pointed at Freddy, "THE ultimate weapon."

HE OPENED his eyes. He felt light, as if he were everywhere but nowhere. He looked around, scanning his environs. He was in the thickness of a jungle with tall trees with the spaces between them filled with overhanging vines. He could only see so far, as the place was dark. He closed his eyes, trying to find his location -using his vast knowledge of geography. His eyes fluttered open; his memories were gone. He tried a couple more times but there was nothing. So he walked in a random direction.
He couldn't place how long he had been walking into the forest, or out of it.
Voices. Incoherent voices. They sounded like that of children.
Behind him.
He turned around but saw nothing. He heard them behind him again. Then to his left; then right.
Everywhere was suddenly filled with the same noise. He closed his eyes and ears to block them out to no avail.
He screamed, feeling mute.
*************
Time check: 15:25.
CHRIS OPENED the door, scanned the room. A small three by three bedroom with a medium-sized bed cramped in one corner and a small Sharp television opposite it. The smell of cheap antiseptic used to wash the bathroom flooded the room, making his nose wrinkle. He walked to the window and pulled back the curtains, peeping through. Nobody.
Chris picked up the remote for the air-conditioning -placed on the TV stand together with that of the TV- and cranked up the speed of air supply. The machine's fans grunted under the demand for more work. Cursing, he dropped his travelling bag on the bed, opened it, and pulled out the black pieces of metals it contained. His phone rang again; he immediately swiped the green button on the screen and waited for the CONNECTION SECURED notification that followed.
"Hot Icing," a different male voice called this time. "Any hot icing?"
"Loud and clear," Chris said, putting the phone on hands free and dropping it on the bed beside the bag as he picked up the pieces of metals and assembled.
"Target is getting nifty," the voice said. "He's planning on cancelling the event."
"Desperate situation calling for desperate measures?" Chris said calmly. Surprises and worries had been eliminated from his mentality back in training.
"Something like that," was the reply. "What's your next course of action?"
Chris sighed. He hated revealing his moves; made him feel predictable. He had been failing teamwork exercises in training and that was why he was in this mission alone. "With panic comes mistakes. He's inevitably playing into my hands."
"But-" the voice started to say before Chris cut him off.
"But you rest assured that he's not getting out of Nigeria alive," he said sternly, hanging up.
He cocked the custom made pistol and aimed. When satisfied, he got to work on the carbine and sniper rifles.
