My question is should Ambode be a governor of the people or be a governor for the party leaders and the elites? I don't understand.

We are clamoring for a government and democracy free from Godfatherism.

Ambode has set up a good structure in place to develop and take Lagos to a giant stride. APC must not allow dispute, arrogance and selfishness destroy their Party chances in the poll in 2019
Ambode is neither , he is a governor of himself, his family members and friends. Many of you dont live in Lagos, you just come here to make nonsense comment, Ambode is behaving as if he is from opposition, abandoned all the projects started by Fashola, refused to pay contractors that worked for Fashola, wasting tax payers money on white elephant projects, roads are bad, canals are over flowing , hospitals dont get enough funding, schools are abandoned, . Fashola built 11 general hospitals when he was governor, built and renovated many schools, Ambode has done none since he got there only awarding big contracts to his friends and family members. He should go Lagosians dont want him again. If APC should make the mistake of giving him second chance, we will vote him out . He is a bad market that's why they don't want to field him.

With open direct primaries, Ambode is gone. Therefore Lagosians should wait to see who PDP will bring out because that is the next big party in the state no disregard to other parties.

The two recent elections in the west, reveal some fact that regardless of performance the west will vote APC or allowed APC get away with rigging

1. Fayose was not paying salary/pension therefore his party was voted out for APC.
2 Aregbe was not paying salary/pension but his APC party was retained.

Ambode should be grateful that he served and move on to another chapter. With the way things are going between him and the emperor, I don't see him even getting a senatorial nomination in the future because many people are already on queue and would not be forgiving for being stubborn by the powers that be.

He is not wise at all. Immediately he noticed that they didn't want him again even after all the begging, he would have just accepted and try to get along with all the party members he offended. Build good relationship so that you can still be relevant after you leave office. He can get appointments or run for senatorial positions. But with the way he is going, he is just gonna ruin everything for himself.

Option AA. I believe all members must have been seriously warned. So let's see the Lagos APC member that will queue after Ambode poster if you will not be dealt with.

To me, it is still an open fraud. The fear that must been incaulcated in these people by their respective leaders will not allow them to do the right thing.

You cannot bite the finger that feeds you!

The people are never to be trusted and relied upon. Ambode made a terrible mistake of placing the people ahead of the actual few power people that actually brought him into power. He suppose to balance both side. He has poor interpersonal skills. No politician is a saint so why not ensure a good relationship.
He did what? you think this is about Tinubu, please if you dont live in Lagos Dont comment. Lagosians can tell the huge difference in Fashola and Ambogone years. Tinubu has no choice than to support Lagosians. Ambode is a disaster.

Don't mind many of them...instead of facing the real facts, they are all making the issue about tinubu and godfather nonsense. Are the roads good? NO... are lagos schools in good shape? NO... Good primary health care in lagos? NO... is lagos very dirty now? YES....is the increment in land use charge reasaonable? NO. people who don't even know the road to lagoa be coming online to say trash and claim ambode is working. If he has performed as he claims, why is he so desperate for a second term? Why not just go and allow another person to work so he cam compare his performance with the other.

I think there is more to it

Ambode might have wronged Tinubu and other members that made him badly
Mr Ambode wronged a lot of people, it seems. I spoke with some traders and non-traders yesterday and was surprised at the level of dislike for the man. They think he's a land-grabbing governor who's bent on destroying every market in the state and repeating the Tejuosho fiasco everywhere.

ReachHard:
My personal pre-analysis on possible outcomes from the Lagos primaries, on both sides:
IF AMBODE WINS...
1. There might be high political instability within the State, going by the foreclosed wishes of the kingmakers;
2. His victory may as well go down as one of the biggest political upsets EVER witnessed in recent democratic history;
3. You can be rest assured that Tinubu (and his cohorts) will certainly not go down without a fight. The last thing on his mind, will be to dump the party he almost single-handedly constituted. So, be prepared for heavy political fireworks if Ambode's victory becomes the story.
4. Ambode will spend the remaining four years of his tenure like a 'political orphan.' Only close aides, associates, faithful followers etc will tag along with him all the way... except, of course, he goes back to "appease the gods" (which is not something really unusual these days)
5. Lastly, of course, except his challenger (Sanwoolu) gracefully accepts defeat and throws in the towel, expect huge legal fireworks thereafter. Politicians love visiting courtrooms, don't they?
IF SANWOOLU WINS...
1. Just as in Ambode's victory situation, there's also a huge possibility of a breakdown of law and order. It might interest you to know that, despite the massive endorsements Sanwoolu may have received, Ambode himself equally has a great deal of followership across the state. And these ones too will raise a lot of eyebrows and may likely cause mayhem if things don't go their way. The security agencies will definitely have their jobs well cut out!
2. Tinubu will only further cement his status as the self-proclaimed "godfather" of Lagos politics, nay, the "Jagaban" of Africa. His praise will ring even louder amongst his core loyalists, home and abroad.
And he, of course, will feel satisfied and vindicated.
3. A possibility of a massive exodus from the party is still up in the air. Except Ambode himself makes his move, that is, if he feels dissatisfied with the result. If he chooses to stay with the party, then his followers themselves will stay put, and perhaps, let the sleeping dogs lie. They will love him too much to upset the apple cart against his directives. Recall also that during the world press conference by Ambode, he declared he's ready to work with the progressives, regardless of the outcome. Even though we hardly trust politicians by their words, it is believed he spoke his mind.
4. Their party may lose more national votes for the forthcoming general elections, it will take more efforts at unification and fence-mending after all is won and lost at this event, to prevent that from happening. And this is one reason why you find the National Headquarters of the party serially postponing the d-day, they are fully aware what is at stake here, both for themselves, and their party's fortunes as a whole.
5. The party stands a 60-40 chance (if not less) of winning the gubernatorial elections, that is, if the main opposition party fully gets itself prepared for the challenge and presents a formidable opponent. Jimi Agbaje might still have that clout, any other candidate (for now) might just be a straight walk to Alausa for Sanwoolu.
Fingers crossed.

All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said last night that his position on the candidates battling for the party’s governorship ticket remains.

Tinubu’s media adviser Tunde Rahman said last night in a statement on Tinubu’s meeting with the President in Abuja:

“Asiwaju Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande were invited by President Buhari and it turned out to be a good and productive meeting. Asiwaju was quite pleased to have conferred with the President who has always shown himself to be a committed party member and a true democrat.

“Just like the President, he is looking forward to a good and credible primary that is peaceful and free of rancor. As previously stated, Asiwaju plans to vote in this primary and his position regarding the relative merits of the candidates remains unchanged.”

In the race are incumbent Akinwunmi Ambode and former Commissioner Jide Sanwo-Olu. The primary election is today.

Asiwaju said of his choice in a statement on Monday: “I am encouraged by the presence of a candidate in this primary, who has served the state in senior positions in my administration, the Fashola administration and even in the current one. While possessing a wealth of experience and exposure, he is a young man endowed with superlative vision and commitment.

“Most importantly, he understands the importance of the blueprint for development. He esteems it as a reliable and well-conceived vehicle for the future development of the state. He also knows the value of reaching out and working with others in order to maximise development and provide people the best leadership possible. With people like him at the helm, the state will write the proper history for itself.”

In 377 wards across 20 local governments, members of the APC will vote today.

Every card-carrying member of the party is eligible.

There will be no ballot box and ballot paper. Party members will queue behind the posters of their preferred aspirant.

The mode of the primary is “open direct primary”, which involves open and physical counting of members on queue behind the posters of their chosen aspirants.

They will be accredited by 9a.m. Election will take place by 12 noon. Members will show their APC Identification Card. No white slip will be accepted, Chairman Tunde Balogun said yesterday.

Posters of the two aspirants will be held by their agents. After accreditation, party members will queue behind them.

“They will be counted on the queue and recorded. After that, voting ends. The agents of aspirants will sign. Then, the results will be taken to the local governments, the final collation will be done at the state level,” Balogun told The Nation in an interview.
The chairman urged members to troop out to participate in the exercise.

He said the shadow poll will be very transparent and peaceful across the wards, urging members to maintain decorum as they participate in the exercise.”

Ambode is campaigning on continuity. Sanwo-Olu has promised an all-inclusve government – if elected.

Chairman of the electoral panel former Cross River State Governor Clemant Ebri attributed logistics challenge to the shift of the poll from Monday till today.

He told Ambode when he visited the Government House in Alausa: “I also like to apologise for the delay; it had to be postponed as a result of logistics in Lagos, Imo and some other states because of the pressure and work load from the secretariat and other developments that have taken place.”

Raising the stakes on the shadow election, Ebri said: “Lagos is more like a decider and like they say, when Lagos sneezes the rest of the country catches cold.

“So, that is why we are very careful about what we are doing and the National Chairman asked me to send his best wishes to you and ask us to come and do the right thing to the satisfaction of all members.

“Moreso, the President of this country stands for transparency and detests corruption and, a situation where no one feels manipulated.

“The process we are laying out is such that will ensure and guarantee transparency and credibility. We have people of integrity in this panel.

Other members of the panel are: Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud Gumel as secretary; Mr Nze Chidi Duru; Chief Clever Egbeji, Sen. Clever Ikisikpo and Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe.

On the integrity of the members, Ebri said: “These are not rookies in politics; they are people who have been tested. You can see senators, former governors, former deputy governor, former member of the House of Representatives; so, this is a star-studded team.

“I can assure you that we have all the experience that you want and you can think about to conduct this exercise. We assure you of our sincerity and transparency and we seek your cooperation in providing a level-playing field.’

Ambode replied: “I receive this election team as being acceptable and credible to me enough to discharge their civic responsibility to the best of their abilities and to also say that whatever it is that is the outcome of the primaries, your presence has also shown that this will be credible and this will be acceptable to me.”

“So, it is very clear to me, all I seek is credible primaries, transparent primaries and level playing ground that we will all be proud of at the end of the day for the outcome,” the governor said, adding:

“There were issues that we have raised that we are also trying to correct.

“The bottom line is this, we are family, we must not go into the elections divided because this is the very first time that our party is controlling the centre and also the state; that is what I want us to continue.

“The issues that I raised have been put in form of a letter which I will pass to the chairman and I believe the committee will look into it judiciously.

“And also I welcome the stakeholders meeting which will allow you feel the pulse of what is going on in the state.”

The panel’s members attended a stakeholders meeting at the Lagos State APC secretariat in Ogba last night to perfect the planning for the election.

Let’s reason forward and think outside the box. Tinubu’s interest is first on line and he wants to protect it by whatever means possible. Tinubu insistence despite President and Baba Akande’s intevention suggest to me me that he has serious interest being protected going forward. Tinubu’s reasoning is about his interest going forward and not about what has happened in Ambode’s 3 years of governance. All these excuses and sins are just to divert attention from the core issues ahead. If presidency is zone to south west in 2023, Osinbajo and Ambode may be more favorable for consideration by Norrheners than Tinubu based on religion. I tell you this is a major huddle for Tinubu to cross. No idea yet on what to do with Osinbajo. Tinubu by his status and influence, he can override the elders to support Ambode going by pleads and intervention from different quarters including Mr President. Why can’t Tinubu forgive Ambode of these sins which I believe can be corrected by taken certain measures. Pls let’s reason it out.
