I really wouldn't like to descend into this alley.

I respect your years of experience (11) which is a fair outing.
My immediate subordinate has raked in 14 years as a certified practitioner.

Lets just learn from each other anonymously.

No need to make you feel small.

You have your experience, I have mine.

Thats about it.

Yet again you miss my point while making the point you are so eager to distance yourself from. This is fun Mr. Anonymous. Any thing you want to say in life, you better say it with your chest or say nothing at all.

To address your allegation that the recent graduates hired were untalented and highly connected people, I completely disagree with this. I know someone who has zero connections in his LG let alone to be regarded as highly connected who scaled all their rigorous screening to get an offer. When asked how he got in he attributes his success to God's favour and adequate preparation. And he says all his colleagues in one way or another had similar experiences. This person I know was on a 50k job in Ibadan. I don't know how a you can describe such persons as connected. Like someone said, If you are good, you are good.

Regarding the pay, I'm certain they aren't paying beyond international industry standard. You need to compare their pay with other Gas companies and you'd find out that its at par with gas industry standard.

The company is NOT a government company as people often wrongly assume. Yes NNPC owns shares there but they DO NOT own the company outright

How many MDs of Gas companies make up to N1bn a year?

And you say you are certain they aren't paying beyond international industry standard?

I'm not going to dispute your claims even though I have serious reservations, but I'm only going to concentrate on the pay issue as highlighted, which is really the crux of the matter.

How can you claim that NLNG's pay is "at par" with international industry standard - which should it even be up to international standard in the first place? Ok, as far as gas companies go, none is bigger than Russia's Gazprom, and my cursory checks online show that the average JUNIOR MANAGER salaries PER ANNUM is $61k, and that's even for its UK operations, in Russia, it is $31k.

https://www.emolument.com/salary-reports/companies/gazprom/11553

But you earlier suggested that 'ordinary' entry level staff at NLNG earn about N1.6m a month, which is roughly $54k per annum! To put it in context, compare NLNG's annual revenues with Gazprom's annual revenues.

I'm adamant that something doesn't add up here, and unless you can show me proof of how NLNG salaries across board are commensurate with similar companies in same industry abroad, then I believe that these kinds of ridiculous and disproportionate salaries can only stem from a corrupt reward and compensation regime.

Exactly.

Don't mind him.

Even bigger companies are not paying their staff that, but he was telling some childish lies before he was caught out.
Re: What Is The Highest Monthly Salary Of Someone You Know In Nigeria? by Nobody: 7:55am On Oct 03, 2018
I'm not sure of the exact pay at NLNG, but I know it is one of the industry leaders in the oil and gas industry.

Anyone earning 1.6m gross per month will go home with about 1.2m after tax and pension deductions.

This is not impossible.

IOCs do something close to - or as good as - this. I know at least 3 of the big 5 IOCs pay entry level N1m plus net.

Don't forget NLNG is an incorporated JV of NNPC, Shell, ENI and Total. These companies second employees to NLNG and they need to be kept as comfortable as they were in these IOCs.

In other words, IOCs are the standard for NLNG.

I seriously doubt NLNG pays 1.6m net for entry level, but I will not be very surprised it pays 1.6m gross (i.e 1.2m net).

Yes, it is possible for IOCs to pay entry level up to N1.2m net per month.

But no CEO of any Oil firm in Nigeria is making N1bn in bonuses.

You know,it won't be a bad idea if you drop the company's name. You'd even some satisfaction in pointing out a well-paying job to your online friends which is more of a service to humanity in your own little way.

OK, let me first of all clarify that I am NOT holding brief for the company. I only want to correct certain generally held misconceptions (which I too used to believe until I became more knowledgeable about the industry)

While Gazprom is the behomoth in the Natural Gas business, there is a sub category of companies that manufacture Liquified Natural Gas. In this sub-category, the undisputed champion is Qatar Gas although they are facing pressure from Australia. Within African market producers include Algeria, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Angola and of course Nigeria. Liquefaction of NG is a more involved process and salaries in this sub category are higher than the general gas industry average.

Like you, I've done a cursory salary check in the LNG business. Please check out the links below to see salaries ranges

https://www.paysa.com/salaries/qatargas
(salaries range from USD93k-162k with average of 118k)

https://www.paysa.com/salaries/nigeria-lng-limited
(USD100K-169k with average of 124k) differs from Qatar by only 7k which I believe is attributable to the very remote nature of Bonny.

https://www.payscale.com/research/US/Employer=Atlantic_Lng/Salary
Atlantic LNG is located in Trinidad and Tobago. Average salary here is 122k which isn't far of from what Qatar Gas and NLNG offers

https://www.paysa.com/salaries/angola-lng
(74k-134k) small one train plant

https://www.comparably.com/companies/equatorial-guinea-lng-holdings/salaries
Average salary is 145k! Critical to note that the Marketing Associate which is one step above grad trainee is paid 60k annually.

The range of salaries above I believe does not cover top C-level executives.

Like I said before, I believe NLNG's pay is at par with global standards in the LNG business

you tried boss.but I noticed(From the links you posted)NLNG pay here in Nigeria is lower than what it's suppose to be.i mean, #1.6m per month isn't up to $100k.abi NLNG directors are playing minimum wage with staff salaries ni?

baba no be say i too like question, but that NLNG pay is bothering me.

I have always known nlng but didn't know their salary is so high.now,am in deep regret for not working very hard in school to make high grades and get into this lovely coy.

If I had seen this while still in school, thought of landing an nlng job will spur me to put in all my best for a job there.

But that 1.6 is high oo,imagine and people are earning 85,000k monthly.

Somehow, I do not think the MD of a Nigerian subsidiary of a multinational firm, would earn higher than the Group MD of the same multinational firm who sits at the headquarters abroad.

The MD of the local subsidiary would most likely be reporting to the Group MD abroad. Is it possible for the subordinate to earn more than his superior or his boss, at the international group level? undecided

I know. That's why I'm shocked that after 15 years experience they only earn 1.6m monthly pre-tax. The company I'm talking about Ordinary Senior Officer take way more than 1.6m monthly. Grads take over 20m annual
In which industry is this company located? Oil & gas or financial services? Even in multinational firms, ordinary officers do not earn up to 1 mill per month.

So a person has this much potential, ability and skills, yet they are docile and diffident enough to remain mere salaried employees? If they're so sure of their special skills, why not use it as solopreneurs (if not outright entrepreneurs) to make the money on their own?
Oga, not everybody is wired to be an entrepreneur. Some people are not good risk takers. And being a good entrepreneur requires you to have a certain appetite for risk taking. sad

Some engineers can make a lot of money for their bosses or companies, simply by being good or adept on the field, when it comes to execution of plans, programmes and projects. undecided

And they are able to do it, because they have corporate support, tools and a solid internal infrastructure to back them up. wink

Others are able to land huge contracts or generate sales for their companies, for the same reason - the presence of an existing skilled team that gives them high-level support, resources, and networks to land the deal. sad

This does not mean that they would be able to replicate the same success in a different environment, where such structures or resources are lacking, if they decide to strike out on their own. shocked

You just said your own mind but eben at that I don't believe you.

No this is another probable scenario.
Artificial intelligence is a relative new and evolving field and has been impacting all aspect of industries. It has been shown that AI can help to better monitor oil wells and improve the overall efficiency of these well over their lifetime.
If you, Hedonini, have the required formula of AI to deliver this services to an oil well with enough reserve, Will you try to own an oil well as a solopreneuer or try to offer it to the oil wells owner?

The emphasis here is being in a vantage position to fulfill your potential of wealth creation.
Be honest with this one when you finally reply.

Remember this trend is very common in STEM based career path. The big industries in this world depend on brains to run but those brains hardly try to stand on their own because the cost of competing with established brands is astronomical and the venture itself is risky.

The part in bold type refers. You have said it all and you have said it well. cheesy

The barriers to entry are high in many STEM circles, if you decide to take it on as an entrepreneur.

Not only that, you need to be aware that technology changes very fast, in the world today.

If you have a nice formula today that can earn you millions, bringing it to the market and making it commercially viable, takes a lot of time, energy, iteration, resources, testing etc.

I can tell you that within 2-3 years of launching it into the market, another firm, or competitor or individual could develop something else, to rival your innovation.

So many companies have folded up due to the use of technology which suddenly became obsolete, or the kind of tech that could not easily adapt to new changes which arose later, within the marketplace.
