Is this a question? Will Buhari have to vow to being fulani or Wike swear to being Igbo abi Dino claim yoruba?

Some people are claiming Saraki is Yoruba on his behalf. Just asking them if Saraki has made same claim anywhere

Saraki has repeatedly said he is Fulani. This is why he was made the Turaki of the Fula emirate of Ilorin. A Turaki is an officer at court in the Hausa-Fulani kingdoms

Saraki dare not claim he is Yoruba.

He just tries to deceive by using Bukola instead of the original ABUBAKAR which is his name.

Fraud is all he is about

Saraki's father had severally come out to claim Fulani. (Google it). Wike is Ikwerre not Igbo, don't know about Dino.

INEC says all primary elections MUST be concluded Sunday, October 7. Hence, both APC and PDP must sort out issues arising from their primaries unfailingly today.

Thanks for the correction.
Now there are two main things that influence our choice of name... Our tribe and our religion.
Saraki is a moslem. The name Abubakar sounds more religious than tribal. I am saying this because when I was in the yoruba land, I saw many yoruba men with the name Abubakar, and they were Muslims.

Wike is not Igbo. I do hope you know that? He has never claimed to be so, he has never identified as such, and above all, he doesn't speak Igbo. He is Ikwerre and yes, Ikwerre is an Igboid language according to linguists. The Ikwerres have always maintained their distinct identity and culture. This is akin to Itsekiri, which is a Yoruboid language but maintain a separate cultural identity or like Urhobo, which is an Edoid language but have never identified as anything but Urhobo. To be clear, that a language is described as Igboid, Yoruboid, Edoid, Nupoid, Hausoid, etc, doesn't mean that the so-described language is mutually intelligible with the languages they use in describing them. Most likely, the languages within the descriptive cluster all share the same ancestry, grammar, vocabulary, or other linguistic features. They only use the biggest variant of the language group to describe all of them for ease of description. This, in no way, implies that those who speak Igboid, Nupoid, Hausoid, Yoruboid, etc, languages are members of the ethnic group which has been used to describe their language.

In fact, there are cases where people from different ethnic groups speak the same language. We know of Welsh and Irish people who speak English but do not identify as English people. In Nigeria, we have cases of minorities in the North who speak Hausa but never identify as Hausa people. Even individually, we have persons born into particular groups but who choose to identify with another group. Chief Okotie-Eboh was born an Urhobo but identified as Itsekiri (an adopted identity) all his life.

Ethnicity goes beyond language. Its a complex of identity, consciousness, culture, politics, religion, kinship, and many other things. Unless someone identifies as belonging to a group, its better not to make assumptions, even if the person speaks like or appears to be from an obvious group. This is especially true in the case of the so-called "minority" groups.

When the person comes from Ilorin, I will ask!

Let me tell you a little story. In the University, a friend of a friend was talking with someone and somebody called him "you this Fulani boy"! I corrected the person saying he is not Fulani, he is Yoruba. The guy scolded me and asked if he has ever told me he is Yoruba! This is a boy with Yoruba name, speak Yoruba, moved with Yoruba guys. He asked me if I know his surname. I said yes. He asked me the meaning in Yoruba. It has no meaning. He informed me, it means "Warrior" in Fulfude. He taught me you don't assume, especially in Ilorin. If in doubt, ask the person. Reason I am asking if Saraki has ever claimed to be Yoruba. Just a question. Don't assume like me please.

Thank you
I understand where you are coming from. But you see, the word yoruba in this context refers to a tribe in Nigeria.
To say that Olubukola Saraki has never claimed to be Yoruba is like me telling you that I have never claimed to be a man. The fact that I have never claimed to be a man doesn't mean I am not a man.
Goodbye!

Your friend is Yoruba just doesn't like to identify as a Yoruba man prolly bkaz he is a Muslim nd is like 1/4 fulani(dy like to identify as dan fodio brothers). But he definitely has Yoruba blood.. Same as saraki.. he is Yoruba.Just that in kwara dy like to start tracing ansectory of how their great great grand father came from mali or egypt nd settled in 4ma oyo empire.. if we start doing that it means most pple from part of lagos da r Yoruba r Bini den ( nd d irony is da d fulani dy are claiming fulanis don't regard dem as real fulanis)

Oga, Ikwerre may maintain a separate identity now but in no way is their culture separate from Igbo culture.
Why don't you face your own culture, or better still, the topic of this thread
