Number 1 and 2, when it happens, the first thing You should do is turn ur engine off. Not completely. Just turn the key once so that just the engine will shut down but ur steering will allow maneuverability.

For number 3, when it happens, don't hit your brakes. It comes as a shock but composure is key. Hold ur steering wheel firm and if your were on speed, gently lift your leg off the throttle pedal and while doing so, turn on ur hazard lights.

Number 3 in particular has happened to me and it was with a very light car and all I did to be safe are the things I mentioned. If you have a blow out and you step on it brakes, O.Y.O. if you suddenly swerve, O.Y.O... Learn to always be alert and be in control always. Such events give you micro seconds to think and make the right decision. No room for mistakes.

Interesting. Hope the steering still remains functional even after turning the key once (one notch) to kill off the engine.

Well the easiest solution is to disengage the gear. Ironically a manual would be easiest to handle in all these situations compared to an auto.
Hope the car won't somersault if you disengage the gear while the car is accelerating away.....I'm guessing you mean shift it to neutral or park in automatic transmissions.
Also I'm wondering if that move might scatter the transmission...but life comes first sha...

yes the steering will remain functional when you only turn the key one notch to turn off the engine. The car has 3key turns. The first one puts life in the electricals of the car, the second point turn on the ignition(that's when you hear a humming sound. That's also where you turn the key to if the car Breaks down and needs to be pushed as this point also unlocks the steering wheel so that it doesn't lock when you turn it) the 3rd point starts the engine. smiley

When it happened the first time, I was approaching a military blockage(drums filled with sand) when I suddenly realized that my break wasn't working and it was raining! Because other vehicles were already queuing to enter into the check point, I ran straight into those blockage drums pushing two for about 20 metres or so.

My vehicle had serious damages but the engine still started and I drove it for about 30 minutes to have it worked on. I spent the rest of that day till about mid day the following day to get the vehicle to a manageable state. Everything appeared fine because the break was working now though the break wasn't fixed.

I continued my journey the next day and then it happened again on a highway! This time around, I had space and enough time to think, I engaged break, no way, I then tried pulling the throttle pedal up with my foot, I realized that didn't work too. Still in motion, I quickly engaged Neutral, then turn off the vehicle ignition, that slowed down the vehicle till I was able to engage park. I started the vehicle again but by this time, the vehicle was seriously throttled down with loud sound, I opened the bonnet and manually depressed the throttle head on the engine, and it stopped. Tried starting it again but still the same. I was towed to a mechanic to have the throttle cable replaced.

One funny thing about this stuck cable was I never had a warning, it happened all of a sudden and the damage caused cost me hundreds of thousands to fix.

Learning from that experience, I have stopped trying to approach objects for fun with intends to hold sudden break because, throttle cable may get stuck! grin grin

is ur car a drive by cable, that's it is it automatic throttle or throttle by wire, i think u understand me.

Throttle by wire(cable). This cable runs from the throttle pedal to the engine around the injector head.

yes, that's what my car is using, now am scared, pls is this problem peculiar to them(throttle by wire)?
Re: Which Of These 6 Things Is The Scariest When Driving? by SolnergyPower:
I don't think so. Mine happened all of a sudden.

I've driven other vehicles but never had that issue. The closest I had was when the throttle cable disengaged from the throttle pedal. This is also bad but not as stuck throttle.

You may ask your mechanic to be checking your throttle cable once in a while. On your own, if you notice anything, please have it fixed immediately.

How about sleeping off for a moment and the next thing you heard and that woke you up is the loud noise after hitting an Iroko tree in the bush.
Nothing could be more scarier.
huh
