Morning Guys am new on this thread. pls I need a good answer on why I chose Troy university alabama. Also why did I choose troy over two others schools, My people I don't know what to say have never been to interview, this is gonna be my first time. your response will be appreciated. cc Lagos is my home, Francis Guys help me out.

Can someone present student loan as a financial document showing evidence of funding his/her studies at the embassy? The school i want to attend in January is requesting for a bank statement showing $24,000 to cover my tuition fee for a year as a liquid fund. Liquid funds are funds that you can cash out immediately.

My Sister, who is my sponsor does not have $25,000 presently in his account but investment and property tax document valued to cover all tuition fee during my entire stay but investment and property tax document are non-liquid funds, it involves a process to cash out.

Now, I am thinking of getting a student loan with my sponsor (Sister) as the co-signer. She has all the qualifications of being a co-signer in USA.

I haven't read on this platform of students presenting student loan as a financial document during interview when reading their transcripts.This is the major reason why i am asking.

I have a scholarship in the amount of $10,000 which i can present and thinking of presenting a student loan.
Is it advisable? Or its always better to present a bank statement?

Please i need someone to help me out with this. I'll really appreciate.

Why don't you tell the forum why you chose TUA over the others and see if they can help tweak your answer to look great.

Is this for first degree or masters .... find the link that has the Dropbox of approved and denied visas. Then take a pen and study how to interview . You would learn a thing or two

No one can tell you why you chose a school, only you knows the reason you chose it. However if you cant put your reason together, you can as well read this thread from the first page and you will gain a lot of insight from posted visa transcript.

On the side/general note, its very sad what this thread has turned to. This thread is suppose to complement whatever effort you have made yourself and not the other way round. This thread is not supposed to replace admission committee nor graduate coordinator nor your proposed departmental secretary. These people are there to answer whatever questions applicants have for a reason but we Nigerians prefer to ask someone who has no first hand information, whose answer will be based on assumptions and permutations. People ask strangers on here ridiculous questions that should have been directed at the grad cord or their proposed department's secretary.

Lastly you cant leave your destiny in the hands of strangers to suggest schools when there are lots of resources to use on the internet. it looks like people just see this as a means of escaping from Nigeria alone rather than getting quality education and having better opportunity in life that we never have in Nigeria. If as an applicant, you cant do simple research about schools then US graduate school is not for you to be honest.

My school is not on the list for financially eligible schools with Prodigy Finance and MPower Financing for student loans.

Please, Is anyone using any other finance firm apart from these two for student loans. kindly state them so i can explore too.

I'm currently a 300l engineering student here in Nigeria. I'm not even 19 yet. I recently got a full scholarship to the US to study any undergraduate course of my choice. I'm not paying anything (Even SAT registration fee) it's sponsored by a company here in Nigeria. Do I wait for 2 years to complete my Nigerian degree and forfeit the scholarship / just leave everything here and accept the scholarship?


I have made up my mind already but I just want to know what others would do in the same situation.

Also let me use this opportunity to encourage people. Don't stop trying. If you really want it, continue pursuing it. I've been looking for a full undergraduate scholarship since I left secondary school in 2015. I tried MasterCard twice, tried Edsap. Didn't get any but I just kept trying. This is 2018 , I just got one.

If I were you I will take the scholarship and leave, opportunity comes but once. If it comes the second time, then you are one of the very few lucky ones. Its actually obvious that is what you have decided to do. All the best

So finally I got time to put my transcript together. Had my interview on the 4th of october and it was successful.
I had spent over 2 months praying, fasting, practicing, mock interviews, reading etc. Like everybody say, your confidence is key even in the face of uncertainty you cannot not be confident. I think confidence comes from a lot of practice, self awareness and a bit of understanding that las las its not a do or die affair.

Two weeks to my interview I decided not to be on check nairaland for any updates because every time I came on here I got scared by the rejection transcript I read, I just felt I didn't need any bad energy as day for my interview drew near.
Additionally, from day 1 I have trusted God through the process and the confidence of me getting this far solely was on my trust in God. He totally made the process from day 1 effortless for me and I trusted that He wouldnt leave me hanging. That is not to say I didn't prepare, I prepared like the outcome totally depended on my practice. Few days to my interview, I had a virtual mock interview with a friend currently studying in the US and she scolded me so much on my answers not been specific with too many stories, I had to work on my answers and make them more specific, some with specific examples, I feel like that was the deal breaker. Enough said, see my transcipt below.

Was scheduled for 6:45am, got the the embassy at past 5 or so. At some point I needed to ease myself, asked the security where i could do that and he directed me to a gutter near by, while doing my business, my passport which I was holding in my hands fell inside the gutter, I was like "na like this Devil wan start". I quickly picked it. It was really wet, thank God I had handkerchief with me, I kept on cleaning every page of my passport till I entered inside the embassy.

Straight to my interview.......He was like the oldest of the VO's, had rejected everybody that went to him that morning before me and I had just told myself anyhow e go be, its fine.

VO: Good morning, passport please
Me: Good morning......passed my passport and i20

Vo: What are going to do in America
Me: I will be studying for my masters in business administration at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio

Vo: How many universities did you apply to?
Me: I applied to two universities - wright state and university of michigan - flint. Got admitted to both.

Vo: Why did you apply to these universities
Me: They are located located in smaller cities compared to bigger cities like Boston, New York, Chicago etc. I believe this will help me focus on my studies and achieve my goal of coming top of my mba class.

Vo: Did you take any exams
me: yes, I wrote Toefl and gmat. Had 92 on toefl and 460 on the gmat.....raised my exams score sheet for him to see

Vo: 460 is an impressive score
Me: Smiled, nodded (truth is, 460 is really not an impressive score on the gmat)

Vo: tell me about you academic experinece
Me: I studied marketing at the university of nigeria, nsukka. I also a have a certificate in marketing from the charted institute of marketing, uk and have taken other short courses in negotiation skills, digital marketing just to mention a few

Vo: Who is sponsoring you
Me: My Uncle

Vo: Can I get your bank statement? Are you with them?
Me: yes....gave him my statement

checks them then ask

Vo: how are you exactly related to them .....(before the interview, I was hoping they wouldnt ask these questions because my sponsors are both yoruba's and I am igbo - was scared our names may give us away)
Me: My mum's cousin (said that with all the confidence I could gather)

Vo: I see two different names(talking about my bank statement), are they both your cousins
me: yes

Vo: Have you travelled out or Nigeria before......oh you have been to the UK
Me: No, I haven't been to the UK.....Vo:oh, the UK program was online
Me: yes. I have been to Dubai twice, one for vacation the other for some business meeting.

Vo: Are you married?
Me: No

Vo: Any kids?
Me: No

Vo: What will you do when you complete your program?
Me: I will return back to Nigeria and continue work with my current company, I currently work at xxxxxx nigeria limited. I will also seek roles in other fmcg companies in Nigeria like p&g, unilever etc

Vo: Your visa has been approved......said plenty things I didnt hear, gave me the white paper, circled with where I will pick up my passport
Me: Just nodded to all he said, carried my document and left.

I picked up my passport on Tuesday, class starts in Jan 2019. Still here till Dec.

This transcript is one of those that shows how subjective visa interviews can be. The idea is to be able to defend the reason for going to whatever school, whether it's highly ranked or not.

me: yes, I wrote Toefl and gmat. Had 92 on toefl and 460 on the gmat.....raised my exams score sheet for him to see

Me: Smiled, nodded (truth is, 460 is really not an impressive score on the gmat)

Vo: tell me about you academic experinece
Me: I studied marketing at the university of nigeria, nsukka. I also a have a certificate in marketing from the charted institute of marketing, uk and have taken other short courses in negotiation skills, digital marketing just to mention a few

Vo: Can I get your bank statement? Are you with them?
Me: yes....gave him my statement

Me: My mum's cousin (said that with all the confidence I could gather)

Vo: I see two different names(talking about my bank statement), are they both your cousins
me: yes

Vo: Have you travelled out or Nigeria before......oh you have been to the UK
Me: No, I haven't been to the UK.....Vo:oh, the UK program was online
Me: yes. I have been to Dubai twice, one for vacation the other for some business meeting.

Vo: Are you married?
Me: No

Vo: Any kids?
Me: No

Vo: What will you do when you complete your program?
Me: I will return back to Nigeria and continue work with my current company, I currently work at xxxxxx nigeria limited. I will also seek roles in other fmcg companies in Nigeria like p&g, unilever etc

Vo: Your visa has been approved......said plenty things I didnt hear, gave me the white paper, circled with where I will pick up my passport
Me: Just nodded to all he said, carried my document and left.

I picked up my passport on Tuesday, class starts in Jan 2019. Still here till Dec.

So finally I got time to put my transcript together. Had my interview on the 4th of october and it was successful.
I had spent over 2 months praying, fasting, practicing, mock interviews, reading etc. Like everybody say, your confidence is key even in the face of uncertainty you cannot not be confident. I think confidence comes from a lot of practice, self awareness and a bit of understanding that las las its not a do or die affair.

Two weeks to my interview I decided not to be on check nairaland for any updates because every time I came on here I got scared by the rejection transcript I read, I just felt I didn't need any bad energy as day for my interview drew near.
Additionally, from day 1 I have trusted God through the process and the confidence of me getting this far solely was on my trust in God. He totally made the process from day 1 effortless for me and I trusted that He wouldnt leave me hanging. That is not to say I didn't prepare, I prepared like the outcome totally depended on my practice. Few days to my interview, I had a virtual mock interview with a friend currently studying in the US and she scolded me so much on my answers not been specific with too many stories, I had to work on my answers and make them more specific, some with specific examples, I feel like that was the deal breaker. Enough said, see my transcipt below.

Was scheduled for 6:45am, got the the embassy at past 5 or so. At some point I needed to ease myself, asked the security where i could do that and he directed me to a gutter near by, while doing my business, my passport which I was holding in my hands fell inside the gutter, I was like "na like this Devil wan start". I quickly picked it. It was really wet, thank God I had handkerchief with me, I kept on cleaning every page of my passport till I entered inside the embassy.

Straight to my interview.......He was like the oldest of the VO's, had rejected everybody that went to him that morning before me and I had just told myself anyhow e go be, its fine.

I would not necessarily call it a disadvantage- just make sure you can explain why you applied to just one school. You can spin it to your advantage by stating a specific research area, topic or field of interest you want to focus on. You could also state that the course content and schedule resonates more what you intended for your studies (again, be able to explain in detail why).

Just make sure you articulate your reasons clearly. I do not see this as a big disadvantage.

Sat, TOEFL, GRE ?
2. How do one search for schools in the USA, website , scholarships?
3. How do I evaluate my NeCO result on WES platform?
4. Visa Application process

He should first evaluate his 2.5 to 4.0 us scale using wes free evaluator.

From the final outcome, he can now research for schools that accept that grade.

The probability of getting unconditional admission is slim though.

Choose Credit card and use your Debit VISA card. I don't know if MasterCard will pay but ViSA card will work fine

Please i read someone's post about free Wes evaluation before now. Is there also a paid version? I don't really understand. Is it okay for someone to use the free version.

For graduate studies in Sciences, the standardized examination required is GRE. For funding purpose, most schools will require a Language test score.
A good way to search for programs might be to start with www.usnews.com. Another good site to follow up to know when schools start making admission decision and sometimes to judge how competitive you may be for your program of choice is to use www.thegradecafe.com and navigate to your program of choice.
Evaluating your credentials depends on what school(s) you are applying to. Not every school requires this since some of them have in house evaluators that does evaluation on international credentials.
Lastly, on visa application process, you might want to follow this thread and learn what the next step is and how to prepare for interviews.

GboyegaD i really want to thank you for your answer to this question from Ndkings because while answering his question you have also addressed some of my own questions too. At least now i know that i need to go for the GRE exams asap.

However in my own case i graduated with a 3rd class in Electrical engineering. Please i need to know if there is anything i need to do differently in my own case. I just hope my 3rd class won't be a hindrance for me or is there anything extra you think i need to know or do.

you can gradually build ur confidence,first,when u want to talk to
someone,see d person as ur inferior or even as a
nobody. Then imagine urself as someone great,take a deep breathe and lock up ur jaws,u can dip ur hands in pocket to avoid fidgeting. Look into their eyes directly,eyeball to eyeball,most of them will look away,then u know u are in control of the moment,then u will feel an accomplished, n confidence grows immediately no matter how little. Most,would be uncomfortable,and be in haste to let u say what ya want to say at once. Hope this was helpful in building ur confidence,not getting a visa though. Thanks!

How can you advise someone to see a fellow human as inferior or as a nobody all in the name of building confidence? Please this is not a good advise at all. There are many other practical but positive ways to build confidence.
