Honestly speaking, I can remove that ring with my bare hand. It happened to my wife and I did it myself. My wife was afraid of losing her finger but I told her that I will remove it and did it. The ring can be carefully cut with a saw without amputating the woman finger, they can use a wedder;s electric sawing machine or manual sawing.

Now, doctors at the Centre for Evidence Based Emergency Care in Manchester have come up with a handy solution.

Professor Simon Carley, an expert in emergency medicine, explains how a piece of elastic and a pair of tweezers – you can remove a ring from a swollen finger, without cutting the ring. The finger or the ring, that is.

“I do find that patients really don’t like their wedding rings destroyed,” he says. “There is no joy in cutting off the wedding ring of a lady whose husband died recently. I’ve seen it done and it just seems wrong.”

Officially known as “the undertakers’ trick”, it can also work if you use a shoelace or a piece of string. However, it is not one to try if there is a wound on your finger, or the ring is stuck on a bone rather than due to tissue swelling.
