I believe there are UK/US-based doctors here that's why im making this long post. What do you guys think. I have the opportunity of moving to the US on a green card, and also the UK on spousal visa (tier 2). Now, if i go to the US, i'd need to take usmle (target is residency). But i'm worried. What are my chances of matching, being that i am 6 years post med schl (read a lot of discouraging testimonials by IMGs online). The PLAB pathway seems shorter, less expensive and less stressful, but should i throw away the opportunity of being a US LPR? How is life in the UK vs US , and vice versa (never stepped out of Naija before). My spouse is comfortable to relocate anywhere i prefer, so long the family is together. Pls what do i chose. UK and take PLAB (shorter, less stressful) or US (as a legal permanent resident) and take USMLE (with an air of uncertainty with matching for residency training). I'd appreciate your thoughts. 2 Likes |

nervorum: I lived in both country so my feedback is : it depends on many factors , how old are you , what school did you finish from, how long ago you finished your MBBS (in your case 6 years) and also it depends on what specialist program . That been said , i have seen many doctors from Nigeria been able to match in the US or in the UK been able to enter the system easily . So i think either way you might not lose if it works out well and other Nigerians have been able to cross the bridge . However the UK is easier in terms of exams and entering the system . The UK has an upper hand in terms of after you pass Plab 2 and get GMC registration you can work in a locum capacity until you get into a residency program..Locum are well paid as well so you wont be hungry. You dont need filing from employer which is a good point too . , but the US, your working as a doctor is dependent on that you graduate from a residency program and initial matching is a lot of work as well . You have an advantage that you dont need H1B ..... so UK versus US which is easier i would say UK . who on the long run earns more money , i would say US but both are very comfortable after you break through . ... which do you choose ?. only you can make that determination . 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Kennyinusa:Great, can you please give a breakdown of the process you went through? There is not much information out there about getting endorsement from any of the bodies and how to write a personal statement and letter of recommendation. I went through RAE and didn't get an endorsement but Technation seems easier and faster. |

dustydee: I applied through tech nation and the whole thing is quite straightforward. Any the documents required are 1. CV 2. 2 Recommendation letters 3. Personal statement (max 5000 word I think) 4. Up to 10 others supporting documents. This is basically all you need. With item four above, you can submit up to 10 other supporting documents with your application. This can be any document that you know will corroborate your claims as an exceptional talent. You submit this documents on the Technation Visa website. https://technation.io/visa/ After submission, you will be able to print the application summary and also proceed to make payment for your application. After-which you ship all these documents to the UK. You get a email notification when your documents has been received. After which you wait for your endorsement. 11 Likes 6 Shares |

Re: The Adventures Of A New UK Migrant by Kolping: 7:23pm On Oct 30, 2018 |
My understanding is this: A U.S. green card is a permanent residency card while a U.K. Tier 2 visa is a temporary residency visa. With a green card, after 5 years you can apply for U.S. citizenship. With a Tier 2 visa, you have to work 5 years before you can apply for permanent residency, which is called indefinite leave to remain in the U.K., then you can apply for U.K. citizenship At the end of the day, it will depend on what your final goal is and how quickly you want to achieve it. nervorum: 1 Like |
