Hello All!

New migrant alert here. This thread has been great, thanks a lot to all who have contributed.

Pls my perspective is slightly different. I'm a Tier5 dependent (Wife) and we all moved with our 3 children. It has honestly been unbelievably expensive and we still have not settled in a house we like.. have been doing short stay which is very expensive.

Anyhoo, we are North and even though I honestly won't be able to work for at least a year or two coz I have small children, I want to invest the time wisely doing courses etc that will allow me be immediately relevant when I'm ready. So for those with knowledge pls help your sister... which areas are perpetually hot in the U.K. especially the Scotland area. Pls note that - I have over 10 years experience in Entrepreneurial endeavors/Business management. - No passion for IT or Medical fields plus Hubby na d medic. - For now considering Social work or Project Mgt or Event Mgt (Events coz I have a passion there) but I don't know if it pays this side.

I honestly have never not contributed to the household purse and I dey pity Oga as I'm seeing how the money is vanishing.. won't even mind ideas on what I can do online at home from now to earn in the U.K. Pls oh my peeps give me ideas based on your wealth of knowledge. Many thanks.

Cc: @Ralphlauren @dupsyhoo @imconfused and all the other greats on the thread including OP.

Regards.

A job in IT that pays higher will solely depend on your desire to constantly develop yourself. It’s IT- it’s everchanging; there’s absolutely no safe net.

I studied MSc IS, and till date, it’s one of the best things that has happened to me. It’s a mixture of business knowledge, HR knowledge and IT knowledge. My job is to make, manage and upgrade systems and processes so as to solve problems in an organisation. My background is in Computing so I wouldn’t have picked finance and IM as that would need an accounting/audit/finance background.

In summary, it’s your choice what you want to study; If finance is your strength, F&IM will be perfect, if Computing and analysis is your strength, IS will be perfect.
Hi...Pls what is the difference between
1."Msc Business Informatics" and "Msc Information System Management "..??
2.How lucrative is a master degree in Information system..??
Thanks in anticipation...

I think they are similar because both of them have management skills involved, if it had been BI and IS, then the difference would have been more obvious.

BI is simply being able to use different software tools to process data or represent information that is relevant to a company. Whereas, ISM just focuses on utilising and maximising the benefits of an information system (like an intranet, website, till software, stock-keeping software) that is being used by a company. (IS alone will teach you how to develop the information system, or at least manage the people that will develop the system, so technically, ISM is "IS" with management). Therefore, you might need more computing knowledge for ISM because you can't tell a system analyst "the thing is not working", instead of saying "the portal is down".. but a BI guy will be forgiven if he doesn't know the terminologies to use.

BI basically just teaches you the grave importance of info and how to use tools to capture and represent information for a decision to be made, while ISM teaches how to solve problems with a new device or software, and how you can manage people too (HR). If you have a finance or business background, BI can be your step forward, if you have a computing background, I will suggest ISM.

Had a good time, but it gets really tiring going around to all these places. I checked my phone and I took about 30,000 steps one one of those days I was going up and down in London.
