Mikel Obi dismisses Gernot Rohr's claims about his future with Super Eagles
36 minutes ago 1833 views
by Uchenna Ajah -

John Obi Mikel has rejected claims credited to Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr for his exclusion from Nigeria matches in November- Rohr was quoted as saying that Mikel was no longer interested in playing for Nigeria- The China-based midfielder insists the 2019 AFCON remains his priority Nigeria’s captain John Obi Mikel and Ogenyi Onazi have reacted to claims credited to Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr as reasons for excluding them for the 2019 AFCON qualifier against South Africa and the international friendly with Cranes of Uganda next month.

According to the Sun report citing footballlive.ng, the pair have rejected the Franco-German manager’s reasons from not extending an invitation for November’s double header.Speaking on Tuesday with Kwese ESPN, Rohr admitted that Mikel was no longer interested in playing for Nigeria, at the moment.
“Mikel told me that he would tell me when he will be ready to come back. He didn’t tell me yet. So I wait,” the German tactician noted, even as he was quick to add. “I hope that we can go with him to AFCON and win it for him.”

However, in a chat with Footballlive.com from his base in China, Mikel revealed he has not stopped representing Nigeria, rather he was battling fitness issues presently.

Mikel Obi dismisses Gernot Rohr's claims about his future with Super Eagles“My commitment to the national team remains 100%; I still remain a part of the team and will always support the lads. “The Nations Cup remains our ultimate goal for now and we are just one point away from reaching that target,” Mikel added.

On his part, Turkey-based Onazi is still unhappy about rumors mongers, who claim he was not injured in the Super Eagles camp.

“Why would I fake injury, I was injured in training and I had to rest the leg which I did.

“I am a professional player with a 100 percent dedication to my job, I have always believed in professionalism which is key and that has helped me a lot in my career.

“I have played for this country even with injury before, I think I deserve some respect from this people who are spreading such bad information about me.“

I have to respect the coach’s decision for leaving me out of the tie for now.

I find it so demeaning and very mannerless for one to just start up insults cos someone opined differently from what everyone know or says? Can't someone be wrong in peace and be corrected in peace again ni? Must we all align in facts, figures and vigor? I find that really low. Not to talk of how those that feel like Legends or Echelon Informants acting like everyone on here is way low and should be so cos they aren't well informed like they are.

I think we'll should learn from tbaba1234 that doesn't rub such down people's shoulders and let's us all just chill to think.

The idea and common knowledge that some sect on here refuse to change stance however is not hidden and as usual, they fire shots, and should expect shots especially if they know that bias in the face of truth is their stance. Else let's all respect each other pls. No one is gonna win a title worth millions of dollars for knowing it all, neither is the jjc on here going to continue being a jjc. Hell yeah, he or she can't with the way information is dropped on here daily.

Let's return to Sanity days pls.

Gracias!!!

Thank you for the observation and this comment.

Firstly, though I personally do not condone insults but there is nothing demeaning about any discussions or arguments going on here. Fact that people are arguing viciously a course here only goes to show the deep concern some of us have about Nigerian football.

Davep, I have always known you on this thread but have also known u are not among those regular contributors. I bet you to get more involved in discussions and see if you will not find yourself in one heated argument or the other. Yes, that is what it is "heated arguments".

There is nothing happening here now that has never been happening before. These arguments are what keep the thread going. A lot of us do not do insults here because we always know when to stop when the heated arguments are beginning to go over the roof.

There are some people who cannot just look away when certain skewed information are being posted here. If anyone has any reason to oppose any view he should be ready to back it up with valid facts. That's all!

As long as we all remain on this thread there is no way we will all reason alike. And so you should expect more heated arguments to continue.

However, as we have always cautioned, ''do not blow below the belt''.

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen glovesman Robin Udegbe has reiterated his desire to play for the Super Eagles ahead of his country of birth Germany and is hoping to be considered for selection by manager Gernot Rohr. Born in Kiel, Germany, Udegbe played on the same VVV Venlo team as Ahmed Musa, Michael Uchebo, Uche Nwofor and Alex Nkume and has revealed that he is still in close contact with the quartet though they have all moved on to pastures new. At the moment, Elche's Francis Uzoho is ahead in Rohr's pecking order of goalkeepers, with Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi acting as cover. ''My father is from Anambra State, I want to represent my country. If given the chance, will grab it with two hands,'' Udegbe told Channels Television. ''I am 27 years old, I was born in Kiel. I want to offer my goalkeeping qualities to Nigeria, I will give one hundred percent if given the chance. ''I played together with Ahmed Musa, Michael Uchebo, Uche Nwofor and Alex Emennike. We used to spend time together, ate together, we are still in contact especially Uche Nwofor. We talk about Nigeria.'' Asked if he has had any kind of contact with German coach Rohr, Udegbe answered : ''No, not yet. If there will be contact I will be very happy about it but there's no contact yet.'' This season, Udegbe has posted six shutouts in 15 appearances in the German Regionalliga West and conceded 16 goals.

why are u lying like this grin nawa for u ooo musa turn Iceland game in our favor ebuehi only contribution in that game was giving away a penalty
Curtisaxel7:
I'll forever be angry at Rohr for starting Idowu ahead of Ebuehi in that game against Argentina at the WC.

Ebuehi turned the game around against Iceland in our favour. Messi basically wiped the floor with Idowu. And Idowu couldn't offer anything attack wise either.

Not a single meaningful cross or goalscoring chance worth remembering
was created by him throughout the WC and the preceding friendly matches!

Trabzonspor midfielder Eddy Onazi was on another level in his team's 1-1 draw against Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, earning rave reviews for his performance at the Antalya Stadyumu.

Of the 28 players in action, the Nigeria international touched the ball the most, 111 times in total, placing first ahead of Argentinian teammate José Sosa who had 100 touches.

Out of the 92 passes Onazi attempted, he completed 72 and ended the game with a passing accuracy of 82.6 percent.

But the most eye-catching stats is that he was the joint top dribbler, along with Antalyaspor's Dogukan Sinik with four take-ons.

The 25-year-old, had a game-high five tackles, won two fouls and made one interception.

In an obvious dig aimed at Gernot Rohr, Onazi criticized the German for not handing him playing time at this summer's World Cup.

The relationship between master and pupil is set to further deteriorate as the former Lazio ace has been omitted from the latest Nigeria roster announced on Monday for no good reason.

''I'll show my quality and talents to those who didn't give me the chance to play in the World Cup,'' Onazi told the Turkish press.

Not playing Onazi against Argentina was the biggest mistake Rohr made. I couldn't understand till now.

Chuks was selected due to his dynamism(left foot) as compared to the other wingers at our disposal. Rohr had to settle for him because the game came too early for Ojo. Yes Chuks is good but he is just starting, hence, I say his invite was hurried. Ojo to me, is more ready since he has played professional football for about 3yrs+, if only he didnt need any paper works.

That said, lets see what Chuks can do

About Osimhen...dont really kno what to say here, but I would sacrifice him for a midfielder. At least for now, We already have enough cover in Ighalo, Success and Kelechi. Rohr's call ups sometimes sha

A bird in hand is worth than many in the bush. Chuks deserved the call. There's nothing to early in my dictionary if you are doing well.

When Ojo time reach, make em come fight for a shirt.

Talking of invitations for local players, CAF just reduced the slots of NPFL for continental competitions.

Libya takes our slot due to consistency and how far theyve gone in the competition.

I think this would be a wake up called to the stakeholders of the NPFL.

We are now to provide only one team for the two competitions instead of the usual 2 we've enjoyed since 2004 when that format was introduced. Cameroun also gets to keep their two slots as usual.

Bascovanveli, what's your take on this. I guess the sound of the music is getting more rocky!!! Hmm
In the coming season after '19 we'd be back to having twos in both competitions

Very disappointing nonetheless

NAIRALAND NIGERIAN FOOTBALL AWARDS!

A good and blessed Morning House.

We have all analyzed football here for a couple of years now. We have tasted the joys of victory and agonies of defeat from different competitions we have participated in. And each one we have come out better as we have always learnt one, two or more lessons.

Believe it or not we have here in the house some of the best followers and analysts of Nigerian football. Forget that we argue all the time, but these arguments generally have yielded fruits in certain areas and our national teams have gotten better for it.

DON'T WE THINK IT IS TIME WE STARTED ROLLING OUT AWARDS, IN VARIOUS CATEGORIES, TO WELL DESERVING NIGERIAN NATIONAL TEAM FOOTBALLERS?

Now this is just a suggestion.

If a larger part of the house agree, we go ahead and set up a players selection committee which will be saddled with the responsibly of:
1. Coming up with various award categories eg: Most improved player in 2018, best Nigerian goal in 2018, Most impressive new inclusion, Best young player (U20 and U17), Best SE Goal keeper 2018, Nigerian Player of the year, best Super Falcons player etc.
2. Nominating players for the various award categories selected above (Maximum of 3 for each category). Note that criteria for the selection of these players must be spelt out.
3. Collating and announcing of results after the votings.

How do we come up with who and who will make up the Players' Selection committee?
I would suggest a 3 Man (or woman smiley) Committee. The house will have to suggest monikers. Every member of this thread or even visitors would have to nominate one person he or she feels should be a member of this committee. Note that you cannot nominate your self and you cannot nominate more than 1 person. 3 monikers with the highest number of nominations will form the players selection committee.

If we agree, we can set 1 week period for which we can suggest names for the selection committee and the selection committee will have to start work immediately after the Nigeria vs Uganda friendly. So that the voting process will commence first week in December.

At the end of the exercise a thread will be created to publish the names of awardees and mods called upon to take to front page or we may even take it to the sports sections of major News Papers in Nigeria.

Note again that it is just a suggestion and open to more ideas and suggestions.

The simple thing to do for a start is if you agree you click "like" and if you do not agree you click ''share''.

if we cast our minds back to that pre world cup time, onazi was terribly out of shape and form and there were even calls for him to be dropped from the party entirely. Now he has picked himself back up and worked back to form but his present form shouldn't be confused with his preworld cup form.
