Hey guys? Anyone interviewed at Abuja yesterday?
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Predstan: 10:33pm On Nov 03, 2018
Gurus in the house. I will be going to Abuja for my next interview. 100kobo, lagosismyhome, walspring. Please help me scrutinize my proposed transcript

Good morning
Vo: Where are you going?
I am going to the the university of south Florida to study for my masters degree in Electrical Engineering

Vo: How do you know about this university?
I read one of prof don morel's research paper which was granted patent in 2011 in the field of photovoltaic solar energy system and I contacted the prof to show my interest in this field. He advised that I should apply officially to this university.

Vo: tell me about this invention/research paper.
It is a method of manufacturing solar cell with Copper- indium-gallium-selenide semiconductor which is of low cost and high Efficiency compared to solar cells made of poly-Crystalline Silicon.

Vo: You have been previously refused visa, why were you denied?
The letter states that I don't have enough ties to my home country because I couldn't Convince the Visa Officer of my true intent which I believe was due to my timidity being my first time applying for a ViSa.

Vo: so tell me your true intent of studying in America
I want to study and research on Photovoltaic solar system for my masters degree which would help me with my career goal of transforming and improving my dads company by introducing solar energy system as a main source of power in Nigeria just as NEXTERA energy company in the US generate about 930MW of Power in Florida through solar cells. This would directly contribute to the Nigeria power sector.

Vo: What type of company does your dad own?
Its an electrical contracting company. We deal with Electrical installation of Cabling and associated devices such as switches, distribution boards, sockets and light fittings in a structure.

Vo: Tell me about your educational background
I graduated in 2016 from the federal Polytechnic... with a distinction as one of the best student in the department of electrical engineering.

Vo: what have you been doing since you graduated?
I went for NYSC in 2016. I served as a graduate teaching assistant at Kwara state college of education which I completed in 2017 and I have been working in dads company as a technical supervisor leading teams of skilled technicians to carry out installation and repair.

Vo: How many universities u applied to?
I applied to 6universites and I got admitted in all

Vo: why this University?
Because I want to be involved in an innovative research. I will be learning from faculties known for inventions and will be researching under an inventor, Prof. Don Morel. The university is ranked amongst the only 25 best universities for technology transfer in the US. It's also ranked 12th for generating US patent in the World.

Who's your sponsor?
I secured a loan from prodigy finance which my dad will be responsible for while my Aunt will be supporting me. He will be paying $500 to prodigy finance monthly while I'm in school.

Please help me scrutinize my points if they are convincing enough. I want to know other likely questions. Thanks

So I will be paying for another appointment tomorrow. I really need your advice. What do I need to do apart from being relaxed when I'm being interviewed. Is there any of my response that knocked me off or any of which I need to work on. Please I need some encouragement to ease my apprehension... Lol

Hi, I’ve perused your transcript and I can’t see anything wrong other than your one word answers. Kindly share the details of your funding, prodigy loan and available balance of the bank statement

No documents were requested from me. The bank statement is just 7.5million naira and the loan covers 80% of the total cost of attendance.

Do you advise that I go to Abuja for my next interview?. I see you were approved at Abuja embassy after your previous denial.

Ok, the reason why I asked is because your SOA should also cover your tuition and living expense even if you have funding from school without breaking the back of your sponsor. They know it’s possible to lose your funding or have a medical attention which can be very expensive in the US. Sometimes the vo may need assurance that in the event something like that happens, you will still be fine.

But since you have a loan, it doesn’t apply to you.

I’ll advise you refire and ask God for help

Yes, that’s a wise step but there is a pitfall you have to be careful of. The almighty question “Why did you come to Abuja after been denied in Lagos”?. Answering this wrongly is an automatic denial!

I don’t think it’s an issue, you may still have to answer the same question.

This is so far so good. But I'll advise you envisage and prepare for more questions. I know you heed my advice to study approved interview compilations. You need to read some more to get an idea of likely questions. Over all, I'm impressed with this and pray favour to come your way in your next outing.

One more thing, I hope your Dad's statement covers your living expenses with a little balance? This is one area you also need to look into.

I believe location plays little to no role for visa approval/denial. If you're prepared and it's your time, Abuja/Lagos will not stop you.

I think it’s solid but

1. Your answer to the reason for denial is too elaborate, you’re already giving the new vo ideas. Don’t forget that the initial vo already left comments on your profile. I will advise you just say the truth” I wasn’t told the reason, I was advised to reapply later and was given the generic blue paper”

2. There is a disconnect between your true intent and your dad’s coy. How does solar panel improve your dad’s electrical fitting company. It is impossible for your dad’s company solar panel to directly contribute to Nigeria’s power sector as you claimed.

Here, just look for a captivating problem that you’re passionate about that your degree can solve in Nigeria, just improving your Dad’s business cannot justify taking millions of Naira in loans.

The Vos usually looks for disconnects in your discussion, trying to trap you in a lie.

Be proactive to the questions and not reactive

Also, look at:

What will this degree do for you?

Why don’t you study this msc in Nigeria where it is cheaper and would save you a lot of money?

Which other countries have you considered and why?

Refire bro, it’s worth it at the end

See response I got from a prof I mailed at UMass. His research aligns with my interests although he's in the computer science dept and I have my BSc in Elect/Elect. Would you advise I proceed to submit my application? Application to the school is expensive - have to send official scores, transcript, and pay an application fee of $80 - and I don't know how much of an assurance this reply is.

If you have the resources, you can apply and mention the professor in your statement of purpose.

Unsolicited advice is of the Devil. smiley

My only question was if anyone have been in that situation ; applying for undergrad without SAT or ACTS, not lecture about visas.
