Well, for what it's worth, i would not mind a South-African investment in Nigeria's fledgling defence industry. We can see there are many possible growth areas.

When the Saudis buy Denel, you can take part of that money and come invest in Nigeria.

Ground mobility, artillery and large guns, radio and communications, bombs and missiles are areas were we can get investment.

Thanks for the post. So in essence the Saudis want a large stake in Denel and also a part of Denel's 49% stake in RDM.

That's by no means a minority stake like Jln115 is claiming. That's a major take over if affairs.

Your claim of a 'large stake' is equally in the air as 'minority stake'. How do you know it won't be a minority stake? You are equally stabbing in the dark.

There is no heading in accounting which falls under "That's a major take over of affairs". It's purely based on percentages. So we'll see what happens by the end of December.

Let's keep sentiments and petty differences aside. It's in the body of the post you made.

The Saudis are making a major investment targeting all of Denel's business operations.

1 billion dollars is no small investment.

And you don't know what the breakdown of that investment is. You can't answer the basic question of how much Denel's 49% stake in RDM is worth, so you don't know what balance is left to partner in other Denel divisions.

So you saying the Saudis will take over Denel is just guess work. The investment might only be worth $700 million, but the Saudi's are desperate.... who knows. Add in the fact that South Africa might want to protect certain IP.

Best to wait for a time when actual deals are struck instead of guessing.

Say's who?

1 billion dollars can't be for a minority stake. With that figure, they'll fully control Denel.

"Because I say so"

They want to buy Denels 49% stake in RDM a Denel subsidiary.

No, it is a minority stake in a subsidiary.

I would assume that an accountant would understand what subsidiaries and holding companies are. Also, sections 112, 113, 115, 120 and 121 of the Companies Act say: No

Nigeria does not offer anything that Denel does not already do, and do better.

To have full control you'll need a majority stake...... a majority stake is more than 50% otherwise it's just another investment/Joint venture ect ect

No it’s not, if other stakeholders own less than you do, then you own a majority stake.

Nope ,in terms of IFRS 10,11,12 and IAS28 you must have more than 50% to have a majority stake or in other words control of the company!

Although there are exceptions listed in IFRS 11 in terms of Joint arrangements.

Partly Saudi, partly German, partly South African...don't forget that part. Imagine a defence company being partly owned by the world's 3rd largest buyer of defence equipment, how r-tarded is that undecided.

Please fill us in on any news regarding anyone... literally anyone that's willing to have a stake in Nigeria's state owned defence company. I honestly forget its name, but I'm pretty sure its been around longer than Denel. Literally anyone, even if it's Fiji or Tonga....just keep us updated please smiley.

Why would anyone want to buy a company that can't even buy tissue paper, for $1 billion no less grin grin. For real bro, what's the name of your state owned defence company? Okay okay fine...let's start at the basics, does it have a logo?

How old is it again? 40/50 years?

I'll stick with the 'no toilet paper company' for $1 billion thanks.

OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS: NAF PROVIDES SPORTS COMPLEX FOR TROOPS IN MAIDUGURI

The current Nigerian Air Force (NAF) leadership under the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, considers physical fitness vital to maintaining mental fitness and reducing operational stress. Consequently, in order to ensure frontline troops maintain a high level of physical and mental alertness, the CAS has provided a Sports Complex at the 105 Composite Group Maiduguri, home of the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole. The Complex comprises a fully equipped gym as well as a mini-football pitch with AstroTurf and standard volleyball, basketball and handball/badminton courts. These recreational facilities have improved the welfare of the frontline troops, thereby enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of air operations in the North East.

Call it whatever you want.

Denel just got $1 billion to play with.

Is there a Nigerian company worth even $100 million?
