Good morning beautiful people, thanks for always assisting and also being there for Us

Pls i'd like to know if i can include my unofficial transcript copy with the mail am about sending to the "Graduate Program Coordinator" when asking for FUNDING POLICIES though am just about to write GRE and TOEFL..

very Urgent pls
Hello Miaanita,

I assume you just intend to inquire about funding from the Graduate Coordinator and have not contacted a potential supervisor.
Personally, I think it's too early to ask for funding in your first mail (assuming it is), especially if you've not written your standardized tests or made an application.
The first thing you should do is to connect with these grad coords. Mention your research interests and your profile. Ask for guidance as to making an application to their graduate programs. Yes you may include your unofficial transcript.
From here you would be able to make an informed choice on whether the school is a good fit, and afterwards ask about funding opportunities.
It's very important you check the program's website, because a lot of info would be made available on it.
Contact potential supervisors too. You'll see their info and research interests on their website.

I wish you the best!

Good day everyone, I honestly appreciate this group.

I am interested in undertaking doctoral studies in US or Canada (with possibility of funding) depending on which is most likely considering my profile.

I want to apply for a PhD Environmental engineering or PhD Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

My profile is as follows :

- BEng Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering: 2.52/5.0 (US conv. 2.6/4.0)

- MSc Environmental engineering: 5.3/7.0 (US conv. 3.4/4.0)

- GRE 152 Q, 142 V and 4.0 A

Pls I need your advice my people.

Bro. Although hard to swallow. I would advise you to re-write the GRE. I really want you to target top school but your current score is not going to help.

Hello highskies,

Your MSc GPA is good for a PhD. Unfortunately, your GRE score is not competitive for top schools.
But I think there would be schools willing to accept your GRE score. Moreover, the GRE is just one of the many factors needed to get into graduate school.
But if you can afford to re-write the GRE and do much better, then you would increase your chance of admission and possibly funding.

You need to make adequate research to know what schools would accept your scores. Try using gradecafe.com, or you could rewrite the GRE.

All the best!!!

Hey, I think you should ask the grad coordinator if it's okay to do that. It also depends on the conversation you two have been having about funding policies.

Just ask her/him. They are usually very polite and patient with the questions.

Cheers.

Nope. I am looking at masters in finance programs but the majority of them are facilitated by business schools.

Can't wait to start seeing admits for fall19 on this thread.
Are you still looking at MBA programs?

Good Day House,

I have followed this page from 1st post, to have an in-depth info about schools and funding opportunities.

I humbly present my profile for school suggestions and any tip to secure funding for fall '19.
I have actually completed applications to PhD Chemistry in the schools mentioned below. Hoping to apply to any more recommended schools on here.

*My little advice to anyone preparing for the Gre and Toefl is to ensure you start well ahead of admission deadlines.. Take the exams early enough so you can have enough time to prepare all application materials.

Undergrad: 3.45/4 (Unofficial WES evaluation)- Industrial Chemistry
GRE: 312 (VERY terrible exam experience)
TOEFL: 103
Publications: 1 (Currently under review with two journals)
Research Experience : About 2 years working in the Oil and Gas
Conferences: A handful
Schools applied: VCU, FSU, MSU, LSU, Univ of Utah, Tulane Univ and University of Alabama.

Contacts have been made with some POIs in about five of these schools...Mostly positive and was asked to apply.

I'm sorry if I'm derailing but I'd like to call out to Mr Justwise who banned me some two months ago on the travel section for telling someone to message me on WhatsApp via my number that was on my signature. The ban was meant to be lifted by 10:33pm November 11.

I didn't complain but held on to the ban hoping that 2 months would breeze by and I can continue my normal activities on Travel section. I logged in tonight only for me to see that the ban had been extended till November 18th. I was wondering if I did anything wrong to warrant the extra ban or probably a nairaland bug.

PS: No offense but I went through the nairaland riles once again and discovered that none of the rules explicitly stated that we should not tell nairalanders to send you a message via the signature.

Kindly please help me look into this. Na beg I beg, I no form.

Hello house! I've been following this thread for quite a long time now. I want to commend the level of altruistic and selfless contributions on this thread. You guys should keep it up.

I was supposed to register for GRE sometime last year but I was too lily-livered but I've summoned up course to face it. I know I can't meet the deadline for most Fall '19 application but I'm still going to try for some schools that have mid-February deadlines. I plan writing my test by January.

My profile:
BSc 2016 - Geology (Geophysics option) - 3.46/5
IELTS - S 7.0, W 6.5, R 7.0, L 8.5 - Overall 7.5
6 months internship at an IOC (if it will help)
No publications

Applying for Masters in Geosciences with research concentration in Petroleum Geology, Stratigraphy or Structural Geology (depends on the school)
I'm gunning for TA/GA/RA positions.

The following schools are within my purview;
New Mexico State University (deadline is mid-Feb and my aunt lives in New Mexico)
Ohio University (the Geology dept doesn't require GRE)
West Virginia University
University of Minneapolis
University of Maine
Oregon State University
University of Alabama
Georgia State University
University of Utah

I'll appreciate any help/advice provided to steer me in the right direction. Thanks..

It's great to see a fellow Palaeozoic brother grin!!!

Your GPA and IELTS are good for graduate studies.
As advised here, please ace your GRE. It could inform your choice of schools; Ambitious, Moderate, Safe.
Although you may be behind the timeline for some schools, do extensive research on different schools and faculty who share similar research interests. Please contact them from now. It wouldn't be easy, but keep buzzing them. Their info is on their school's website.
Also. For Stratigraphy/Sedimentology and Pet Geoscience, you should check the school's in the South; close to the Gulf of Mexico. These are close to important sites for Petroleum Research (particularly the Permian Basin).

Schools such as University of Texas (they have a couple of campuses e.g., Austin, Permian Basin, Tyler, ....), Universities in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and the likes. But keep your options wide too.

Use gradecafe.com and msinus.com to know what schools would be best fits for your profile.

I wish you the best!!

Okay so I took the GRE last week after roughly a month and half of preps plus all the nysc ppa wahala. Exam experience was so so, felt like I was just going through the motions during the test.
Issue task was okay, I didn't provide adequate examples though so hopefully e go make. Then argument was good.
The exam format was qvqvq. I was happy with this but after the test I no even know again. First quant was easy, maybe I made little mistakes, however I couldn't differentiate between the experimental and the 2nd one so I just went with the flow. My lack of exhaustive practice showed here. Actually I felt norms, engineering boy go rough am. Verbal was verbal so no surprises.
Firstly, i advice that you should start preps for the gre on time, no do rush rush like me. I'll advice guys to do more practice tests though. I only did 2; 1 powerprep and one paper test. I'll also advice guys to avoid too much jacking and enter practicing straight. Only when you're familiar with your weak points then you can read to strengthen those areas. I made sure I read everything before practicing and even though that is good, it was wasting time that I didn't have the luxury of. Reading is important but practicing is importanter.
So final score; Q-158 V-157, I'm a little disappointed with the quant tho, it just felt like I was ghosting during the test. Anyway, I sha sent scores to four schools. Yeah, my profile.
Discipline- Petroleum Engineering
Degree in view-Msc/PhD (preferably MSc though)
GRE-315(Q158)
GPA-4.62/5.00
Publications- Nil
Schools I submitted scores to;
Texas tech
U of Alaska Fairbanks
Colorado school of mines and
LSU, Baton rouge.

So guys, what do you feel about my chances. I'm still contemplating on rewriting the GRE because of my quant but no extra money for that at the moment. Anyway I'll appreciate your insights.

Hi. Great scores. Thanks for sharing your experience. The quant could've been higher but I think you can work with what you have. Your GPA, SOP and LORs should give you that push, especially for the schools you've listed. I've seen admits on gradcafe with similar profiles as yours, with even less GPAs.
However, if you want to target more top schools, a higher GRE quant score should give you an edge, but even that is not guaranteed as it's still contingent on the other parts of your profile (SOP, LOR, publications, etc). Besides, I know there's a general 21 day rule for retaking the exam, so I'm concerned if you'll meet priority deadlines for most schools should you decide to retake the test.
My advice therefore is to work on the other parts of your application, reach out to prospective POIs and apply early.
