Icon4s: You are blind by negative prejudice you are unable to have a discussion without presuming hatred and deep seated dislike. As a man thinketh so he is. This discussion waa never about Isaac Success but the entire subject of age corroboration and the efficacy of the MRI in determining age. But of course you can not see that. 2 Likes |

Truidstar: Over confidence is not a tactic that results in victory. When SA play us they will be FIRED UP %110 it will.be like a cup final for them. Previous form will not give us clear advantage. If the SE doesn't play this game with 110% seriousness, good cohesion and discipline. We could be sorry. On paper we should win, we have the advantage but if we get COMPLACENT hmmmmm. |

And in case u don't know, Isaac Success' age started the discussion. So next time do well to go through previous comments before jumping in. Ok? I am done with you on that. 9 Likes |

Icon4s: I remember I used to call Komekn, Moussa Dembele's Uncle back then... The lad is now at Lyon as Mariano's replacement. He was at Celtic then. The lad never see French call up yet ooo... And instead of Komekn to focus on seeing that his nephew gets his first NT call up he is here still trying to certify his wasteman theories and even play down on the rising star of Samu "Robben" Chukwueze. He brings in Sancho and Reiss Nelson but I wan ask... These guys have played more matches than Chuks naa and Chukwueze is in the BEST Technically proficient league in the world for Santa Claus' sake and doing it so good. Yet he says he is yet to see enough to adjudge Chukwueze a top quality young talent on the fast rise... But when his nephew Moussa Dembele dey ball for Lowly Scotland, him no let us hear word for here oooo... Is that not chameleonish? Anyway, Dad, yes ooooo... I'm looking forward to the cracker in Johannesburg. Would be busy by that period but will try to not miss the game. Things have been going very well but been so engaged Sir... Just say make I check in small before I ball out again. Greetings to you and your whole family... Greet Icon4s' Jnr especially for me... This weekend... Despite the absence of several First XI stars like Ighalo, Ndidi, Shehu, and Mikel... And even missing Onazi due to personal issues Rohr has with him (about time we bring in Billing now), I think we are in for a very tough but interesting game tomorrow. We should watch out for SA's Percy Tau and Lebo Mothiba. MOTHIBA IS CLINICAL and is strong... Tau is fast and skilful... Serero, if he plays, is slippery and sleek and should not be left out of sight. It would be a good game but if Musa and Iwobi bring their A- Game and if Chukwueze plays a part... And if either of Success or Nacho can fire from all cylinders, then we would edge it in the end. I wish us the best tomorrow and hopefully that will provide a fine prelude for our Super Falcons taking on SA's WNT the following day in the AWCON.... Would be a fantastic weekend to remember eternally if we can beat both SA NTs.... Hehehehehehehehehe.... 7 Likes

I tell you Marvellous Basco. I loved Yahaya at UAE. He was easily the most cerebral of all in that set. His intelligence was a step ahead of Iheanacho's in that tournament. He orchestrated our plays in the attacking third and always created space with a simple yet unpredictable body feint move of his which even FIFA.com picked up on and interviewed him for. Musa Yahaya was so f**King good and had the potentials to be a great. My rankings of the best technically gifted players in that set from No.1 to No.5 is as follows (taking into account their time from the Qualifiers to the CAF u-17 Afcon and then to UAE 2013)... #1 (undisputed) Musa Yahaya #2 Isaac Success #3 Kelechi Iheanacho #4 Chidi Nwakali #5 Bernard Bulbwa (was not at UAE 2013 tho) Good mentions: Ndidi was a rock in the qualifiers... Not much technical nous then. Awoniyi was a gangling horse who bulldozed his way to goal. This is how highly I rate Yahaya's beastly creative talents. But look at time now.... It makes me weep at such a loss. Porto!!!!! Diaris God!!! BascoVanVeli: 4 Likes |

For tomorrow's game to be won, we have to beat this man. "Itumeleng Khune." He is without any iota of doubt one of the safest pair of hands on the continent today and he is also "THE ONLY GOALIE YET TO CONCEDE SO FAR IN THE AFCON QUALIFIERS GROUP STAGE ROUNDS ACROSS THE CONTINENT". I trust our attack to spoil his clean sheet record and make SA eat the dust but he is a formidable opponent. Hard to beat but surely can he beaten. Pointer: Good thing is Akpeyi kept a clean sheet against Khune and his Kaizer teammates in the Kaizer Chiefs vs Chippa Utd tie recently... He didn't shake that day, let us hope he doesn't shake tomorrow. 6 Likes

Such is the competitiveness in the Current young, super talented and growing Super Eagles team..... Will Henry Onyekuru ever realise his potential with Nigeria? By Colin Udoh, Special to ESPN Despite scoring two goals for Galatasaray at the weekend, and featuring for 90 minutes in their Champions League clash against Schalke 04, Henry Onyekuru is unlikely to start for Nigeria in this weekend's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa. It's hard to explain the curious case of Onyekuru, who's only in the Super Eagles squad due to Odion Ighalo's injury. Why would it take the likes of Jamilu Collins and Samuel Kalu one invitation to earn a starting spot when Onyekuru has spent almost an entire year waiting in the wings? He arguably should have been introduced straight to the starting XI during his outstanding breakout season with KAS Eupen when he was a devastating presence in the Belgian Jupiler League. At the time, he was considered the foremost prospect to be Nigeria's lead striker, but with Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho and even Alex Iwobi all ahead of him on the queue, he struggled for gametime. Then disaster struck, as Onyekuru suffered an ACL injury that would eventually rule him out of the World Cup. That time out - however undesired - offered him plenty of space for recuperation, and he returned for the new season fired up, quickly getting among the goals at Galatasaray to earn a Super Eagles recall. However, just when injuries and withdrawals made it look like he was all set for his time in the sun, Gernot Rohr preferred to go with Kalu. Onyekuru only managed to come on for the last five minutes of that 3-0 win, as a substitute for Kalu. He was again a substitute in the home fixture against Libya, coming on to supply the assist for Kalu's first international goal, the last of a 4-0 win before another substitute appearance in the road leg in Sfax. These substitute appearances came in the context of a goal drought at club level, a run of nearly two months and seven games without finding the net, although it was hardly significantly worse than Kalu's own form. Onyekuru appears to be suffering from his own versatility and an abundance of quality bodies in Nigeria's frontline. He can play and score both as a wide player and as a central striker, but it is at once a blessing and a curse for him. With Nigeria, Ighalo owns the central-striking role, while Rohr's decision to assess the likes of Victor Osimhen and Isaac Success suggests that he leans towards the big, bruising centre-forward. Score he can, but Onyekuru is more Ferrari than Landcruiser. With Ighalo out, he has to contest with Success for the right to lead the attack. On the basis of their games-to-goals return, Onyekuru should be first in line, but Rohr may well choose to go with Success. He's unlikely to get his opportunity on the flanks either; stand-in captain Musa is a lock for one wide-forward role, and Kalu seems to have put his seal on the second, even with the return of previous occupant Moses Simon. Now there's also Samuel Chukwueze, providing an additional body to the depth chart. It would seem to appear that Onyekuru's upgrade from the standby squad is simply for additional cover, but it's up to him to prove to Rohr that he deserves to be much more than that. Rohr: We’ve waited long for this match Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is adamant on ending Bafana Bafana’s clean-sheet streak and seeking to avenge their only defeat to African opposition in his reign. Rohr is relishing this weekend’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Bafana and has noted several motivating factors ahead of the much-anticipated clash at the FNB Stadium. Nigeria arrived in the country in the early hours of Friday morning, much to the discontent of the German tactician as he redirected questions on the reasons therefor to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). “This question you have to ask to NFF. It was not my desire to come so late and to spend all night on the plane, with a stopover in Luanda,” bemoaned Rohr. “So, yes, we wanted to come here earlier, but you know sometimes it’s not the coach who can decide. We have to accept the decision of the federation.” However, he insists the team is fired up for the encounter as they seek revenge for their 2-0 opening round defeat in Uyo in June last year. “We’ve been waiting for this match for one and a half years, and it’s a long time but it is still on our minds. We would like to get a better result now,” he said. “South Africa are under pressure because if they don’t win, they are not guaranteed qualification. Their last game is depending, of course, on Libya – who has a good team too.” Another particular point the former Burkina Faso, Niger and Gabon mentor is looking to exploit is Bafana’s record of having yet to concede in four games in the campaign thus far. “I’ve noted South Africa haven’t conceded any goals, so we would like to be the first team to score a goal against them,” he added. “We’re coming here not to play for a draw, which could be enough already for us to qualify, but to try and win. We have wonderful conditions to play in, so the players will enjoy it.” Rohr also downplayed the absence of several key players, including top goal scorer Odion Ighalo, and is confident those called up to replace them will get the job done. “We have the youngest team in Africa at the moment – even younger now because some experienced players are not here,” said the 65-year-old. “We are missing four important players – the goalkeeper; our best goal scorer, one of our best midfielders [Wilfred] Ndidi and Shehu [Abdullahi] the right-back is not here. “But I think the other players will do well and we have a good chance to make a good match.” Article by: Chad Klate (@CKlatey) of Kickoff.com 4 Likes 1 Share |

Can Nigeria's John Ogu take his opportunity against Bafana? By Dami Ugbane, Special to ESPN For the first time since September 2015, Nigeria approach a match without any of their three first-choice midfielders in a matchday squad. Not since a 0-0 draw against Tanzania and a 2-0 victory over Niger three years ago have the Super Eagles been without all of John Obi Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi, but that's exactly the situation they find themselves in for this weekend's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa. Mikel misses out on showdown in Johannesburg due to a personal decision, Onazi's dwindling form appears to have cost him, while Ndidi played himself out of the crunch tie by getting suspended. The unavailability of the tried and tested trio should present a long overdue opportunity for John Ogu to be in the spotlight and earn the recognition his talent deserves after playing second fiddle for the majority of his international career. The physically imposing Hapoel Be'er Sheva midfielder made his debut at 25 and has amassed 19 appearances in five years. Despite his obvious qualities and superb technical ability, Ogu has constantly found himself playing in the shadows of competitors and having to win over new international managers. Nevertheless Ogu remains focused on working harder and earning a regular spot. "I know it's frustrating because I want to play, but I also understand the coach has a job to do," Ogu told BBC Sport. "We have a great squad, as a footballer I always want to fight for my country on the pitch all the time, he added, "but the country and team comes before an individual so I will keep working hard to get my chance." Perhaps Ogu's similar style to Mikel has counted against him, although the due did play together against Uruguay in the 2013 Confederations Cup and against Argentina in November 2017's international friendly. However, even Mikel's absence since the World Cup hasn't led to more opportunities, with Gernot Rohr preferring to hand creative responsibilities to Alex Iwobi. Onazi was also restored to the line-up after losing his spot on the eve of the tournament. To his credit, Ogu hasn't been disillusioned by the setback, but has cemented a role for himself as a useful squad option. His exemplary attitude and commitment to the Super Eagles should arguably have seen him an even bigger role, and he demonstrated his qualities - memorably - against Algeria in the World Cup qualifying dead rubber in Constantine. A year after netting a stunner against the Desert Foxes, Ogu may be expecting to play a different role on the pitch in this weekend's showdown in Johannesburg. With Ndidi absent, Ogu is expected to be the starting holding midfielder alongside Oghenekaro Etebo, who should continue functioning in his box-to-box role. Despite insisting on defensive midfield being his preferred position, Ogu hasn't had the opportunity of been fielded in that role prior to this moment, due to a preference among coaches for Onazi, Fegor Ogude and Wilfred Ndidi. Considering the altitude at the FNB Stadium, Nigeria may well tire in the second half against Bafana, a situation which may well require a steady hand in the heart of the park. He performed a similar role in a cameo appearance in Sfax, where his introduction stabilised a midfield that was in the process of a total collapse. Playing alongside the much younger pair of Iwobi and Etebo, Ogu will be expected to use his vast experience to breakdown the Bafana attacks in front of the defence, dominate aerially and on the ground. Equally, he will be required to utilise his excellent stamina to close down space, possibly make a few of his excellent long-range shots rattle Itumeleng Khune, and generally provide leadership to a young team that could easily crumble under constant pressure and an intimidating home support. There could be no bigger opportunity for the likeable personality to finally prove that he ought to be regarded as more than just a squad member for Nigeria. By excelling in the absence of his favoured competitors, he could possibly hand Rohr a major selection headache heading into the New Year. Source: KweseESPN 1 Like |
