Can you shut up already

So, there is a valid reason for wanting to engage in fraud??

So our thieving politicians should be let off the hook because they have "reasons ".

What do you mean by ready to face actions when her actions will directly affect thousands of applications??

The US didn't use to verify SOA, now they do because of people like her who willingly engage in illegal activities and people like you who are quick to support them.

Don't worry..... Just as Nigerians aren't eligible for Visa lottery, A time will come, we won't be eligible for visas to Western countries...

Nonsense.

BarristerAlarig:

This isn't a civil way to talk to people. You can pass your message easily without resorting to using such uncouth language.
If you read the gentleman's post carefully, you would realize that he wasn't in support of "fraud" in anyway. He was just politely telling you to be civil.

Pls pardon me guys. I have been a silent reader of this thread and i can't help but notice that most people do not gun for top schools like the Indian counterparts. Why is that i must ask. In fact i have come across some "strange schools" since reading this thread. Pls can someone pls enlighten me on the reason why top schools are looking like a phobia for Nigerians. #honestQuestion

Well, there are many sides I could see to this, one is the fact that most of those who applied to top schools don't come over here to make enquiries, they only get to be silent readers, they download the transcript drop box and develop it to their own taste....

You know what it means when Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Duke, Massachusetts give you funding..... for you to have gotten the funding through various mail respondents for months, then, preparing for interview will be an easy ride for you.

I have a friend that scored 316 in GRE, who decided to re write just because is target was Duke University, he wrote again, then scored 315, so, he had to check out lesser ranked schools because of that score....But most of us, sincerely, and probably among busy schedules couldn't get to write the GRE which is what makes those top schools competitive....

Also, this same friend told me of a WhatsApp group that consists of gurus all over the world, including Indian students, studying in US, he belongs to the group, they discuss basically, how to get into top schools, and nothing more, and that's where he got his inspiration...

He was the one that told me Indians usually study with loans so they easily get into top schools even if they don't get funding, and they do so with a target of getting employed in top companies, be it business or manufacturing company in the US....they believe they will pay back while they get employed in those big companies... the difference here is Nigerians hardly attend such schools without funding...

I can keep on writing on it...but let the gurus here help out more.

Goodmorning house, please i have a few questions, on the process on applying for my F1 visa. Regarding my Sponsor, a university in Nigeria is willing to be my sponsor as well as providing a sponsor letter, statementof account, they would be paying for my Tuition, accommodation etc. for my Masters program in Emergency Management and Homeland Security (whichi have searched and haven't seen anyone with a similar degree) how do i convince the VO on why the University is my sponsor, and while filling the Ds160 form do I fill OTHER where it says who is the sponsor, and what do I state has my relationship to the University... I'm currently compiling my transcript. Please your advice would be appreciated. Thanks please help is needed urgently

Pls do keep writing....We need to enlighten people. I belong to several GRE and MSINUS groups which are full of Indians and i have made lots of friends along the way. These guys are "go getters" their tenacity is quite infectious.

Infact i have found some study buddies among them and i have improved alot in my GRE study. I was targeting fall 2019 before into some low tier schools because i also have a 9-5 job in a tech firm.

But i have decided to push it to 2020 because most of the top tier schools funding deadlines have either passed or are coming up soon and i wont be able to meet them. Also my course of study isn't really in low tier schools which has to do with Tech Innovation. Another great factor is the time it offers me to be more embedded in more tech and community projects in the next 8 months which would strengthen my application.

My target schools are Boston University for their dual degree, Cornell University, University of Virginia and some other mid tier schools.

One thing i decided to do is to check out their requirements and understand what is required. I have 8 months from now to put my best foot forward. I have also identified some bias that can work on my behalf.

1. African
2. Female
3. In Tech (3 magic words that sells like hot cake right now) grin

Secondly, i have reached out to alumni's in my proposed program on linkedin for tips etc, I found out for Boston University the rate of Africans applying to that course is very low. Infact 2016 set just had 1 African a Sudanese.... Spoke to her and found out she didn't even have the "top notch GRE score needed" Same with a friend who just got into Harvard but diversity, etc played a part.

Indians: What people don't understand is that they are in competition with each other for admit spots. An Indian once told me they are held to a higher standard than others from other countries just because they are too many of them that are just as good. That's why you find an Indian who got 320 in GRE crying and saying how can he get 330 embarassed can you imagine?

Funding: The art of predicting every factor before it happens restrains anything from happening. I believe in taking a step at a time. You never know what can happen.

The inspiring story of how Koye got into INSEAD is a testimony to this among others https://www.bellanaija.com/2018/01/mogbekeloluwa-koye-ladele-shares-inspiring-insead-journey/

Another Great factor is: THE LONG TERM PLAN. Many Nigerians are very short sighted and they don't see the future nor the cycle change of leadership turning. The relationships, networks and pedigree etc can really do wonders for your future.

I am just encouraging people to make the best out of every opportunity that comes your way. Strive for the best as it plays out well in the long run. At least TRY! smiley

Hello wonderful people, please help me scrutinize my transcript. My interview is very close. I'll really appreciate.

VO: Where are you going?
me: I am going to New York to study for my master's degree in Environmental policy and sustainability management.

When you're asked where you're going to, you should tell the VO what school you're going to. For example, "I'm going to dash dash university in New York for my Master's degree in dash dash." You would have killed two birds with a stone when you do this (stating your school and city in the same breath).

A lot of other people will also be interviewed so you don't have time to stall until the fourth question before you mention the school you'd be studying in.

Some of your answers are generic. Try to tailor it to what you want please.

Also, guide the VO to the questions you want to be asked. Be in charge of your interview. Be prepared for whatever question you'd be asked irrespective of how impromptu it'd be.

I hope you get your visa. Cheers!

I like the idea that people should push themselves, what I do not like though is the idea of using Indians as a yardstick or comparing yourselves with anybody. People choose schools for different reasons and there are Nigerians in top schoomalls as well. And there a ton of Indians in low ranked schools as well.
The post should be to encourage people to research and aim for high ranked schools rather than compare yourselves with Indians.
I personally believe I can work wherever I aim to work at or reach whatever goal I set for myself regardless of the school I go to, to large extent it’s your perception of things.
