Those Nigerian soldiers are utterly silly. It is not a funding problem.

Anyone who talks about funding being the cause of the disaster in Metele should be shot in the head.

Each Nigerian gun-truck carries a 12.7mm HMG as a basic weapon. They had at-least 2 Tanks and prior Intel about this attack.

It is a clear case of gross incompetence, Lousiness and indicipline.

How many times would new weapons be bought for those soldiers?

They are there voluntarily, not by force. They should do their job and stop fucking complaining and making excuses for incompetence all the time.

The COAS should have been fired by now.

The President is also very clueless about the security situation in the Northeast. Nothing has changed, nothing has improved.

The Nigerian army is properly funded to do the job it needs to do. You guys and Beegeagles need to stop ranting about funding.

Does BHT now have Tanks, APCs and Fighter jets?

You should be shot in the head seriously.

I can't believe you are spitting these nonsense. The army been properly funded, you might as well day they are properly motivated against an enemy who is ready to fight.

We can't win these war with Toyota Hilux mounted with 50 calibre/12.7mm HMG. Apart from the fact that the soldiers are not doing there well, most of the lapses are coming from the army HQ and the army not been properly funded.

Have you watched the video of the attack; hundreds of insurgency Ed atacking from to defferent axis. They where out numbered and flanked from all directions, out gunned in numbers. Where was the Airforce If there is any point in time the army needs the airforce; it is these type of situation.

The army top brass needs some serious shaking.

As a trained soldier, your training should ordinarily kick in when faced with this sort of attack, not flee.

If you have ever witnessed BHT style of attack: it takes balls to stand it. And it as not changed.

-attack the base in large numbers.
-atacking from all directions.
-the be based is aware of the inpending attack but the airforce probability of showing up is slim.
-once you start taking casualties forget it, you've lost your base.
-defending the base with heavy and slow vickers MBT, the MT-LB APC which is not reliable.

We are loosing the initiative, if something is not done in time.

While an overhaul is not in itself a completely bad Idea, the new incoming CO must have demonstrated excellent leadership in battle in times past.

But sadly, I doubt we have them in abundance. If we do, then maybe they are very few

Overhauling COs is not in itself the only solution though as I pointed out earlier

Beegeagle often suggest recalling retrenched COs of distinction

This is the attacking force that killed so many Nigerian soldiers.

Yet ignorant people want to tell me it is not a competence issue?

The first stage of dealing with a problem is understanding and accepting your failure. Not pass blame around.

BHT with AK-47s and a gun truck mounted with a 12.7mm overran a Nigerian army base with Tanks and heavy armor.

I'm hearing reports that we lost 4 APCs and 2 Main Battle Tanks.

Dude seriously you are funny.

So the pictures you posted here depicts the total number of insurgents that attacked the base undecided

Have you really watched the video ?

80 Nigerian soldiers with tanks and APCs should be able to defeat 200 boko haram terrorist.

A Nigerian soldier that is trained at depot,Kaduna should have no problem fighting a poorly trained boko haram terrorists.

This same soldiers are always gallant with their AK47 when facing unarmed IPOB, shia protesters and civilians all over Nigeria, but they will start lamenting about being poorly funded once they are to face mostly poorly trained boko haram terrorists with AK47.

It keeps happening because there is a systematic failure of leadership, training and strategy in the most senior level, mid-level, platoon level and squad level of the Nigerian army.

The faster we look at tackling this problem the better for us.

I expect Boko-Haram attacks to continue, but not at this level. They see to determined, that's not a group that has been degraded.

if the wall in the picture isnt some random wall but part of some attempts at base fortification, then Mining the paremiters would have helped as well as solve this quoted Beegeagles' respondent’s dilemma:

You get the impression there’s no strategy or tactics of any sort there. Seems like the early days of this problem. A large force approaching a supposedly fortified base unnoticed is quite ridiculous imo.

Remember the Toyota War? Chadian soldiers defeated Libyan soldiers who were better armed and Libyans had tanks and APCs but got their butts kicked out of chad.

Saudi Arabians with their world class gear are getting torn apart in Yemen.

It all comes down to the Soldier and if he has the training and the will to fight and win .

Henry is right though, they had been warned about the attack, but they seem to have done nothing about it.
They had more than enough equipment and ammo to push their way out or hold their position.

But anyway war is not for everyone, it takes a special kind of Man to fight one.

There's a fundamental problem with always asking for air support during every BHT attack. It gives an impression that we have a very capable Air Force.

Let us look at why constantly looking out for Air Support in a Nigerian context is not the right route to take.

Although the Nigerian Air Force has been supplemented with nearly 70 aircrafts in the last 6 years, we have to realise that this number is still very small and relative.

We cannot fight like the Americans who always have air support, in fact the doctrine of air superiority is primarily the method with which American ground troops conduct operations. They can do this because the US Army is built from the ground up that way, if troops can't get air support they do not advance to any objective.

In Nigeria's case, it's not the same, we are limited by resources. Even those resources are stretched to the limit. The Air Force is in the Northeast, Zamfara, Kaduna state, Jos and the Niger-Delta.

These aircrafts have down time and cannot be available all year round.

That's why strategy, planning, leadership and discipline for ground troops have to be top notch.

This kind of situations will continue until you get people at the army HQ that are serious. The problem didn't start now but from the 1980's when the military was highly politicised. At that time people going into the military they believe that they will end up as ADC's or governors or attachés. That's why you see the children of big shots there (Ajebo no dey prepared for wetin him dey face now).
This 80's intake are the Co's and the officer cadre now.
They really don't know their right from left except to dey follow big yansh and drink beer.
Training at the Nigerian Depot is nothing to talk about. They teach you how to roll in the mud, "plant your head", march and salute and maybe take you into the Bush once to shoot AK47. After graduation you are sent to your unit, that's all, until when called upon again to shoot at unarmed citizens or to quell an ethno/religious crisis. The army is the worst hit, the problem involves both equipment and training. My anger is that these are peoples fathers, uncle's, brothers, nephews and nothing is being done? I could recall in the US when families hollared the government that their people were being sent to Iraq with humvees that don't have armor and that their body armor were not of high quality. Here na to siddon look.

Funding - Only 27 APC's procured in the past 3 years, a battalion of 800 men requires about 80 APC's. TTP - A simple Listening Post would have forewarned the base about the BH attack. Designate one of the Vickers MBT together with 2 guntrucks and 40 soldiers to act as a mobile reserve to repel any surprise attack. Bunkers crewed with HMG's for infantry to fall back on if the base is overrun. I am not an expert so pardon any mistake in my writeup.
