Happy Sunday,

Product of trade by barter.

After all, if two families didn't sit and exchange one innocent girl for palmwine and kola-nut...you wouldn't be born.
same for u also, and so will u also be exchanged... you can only be mad at it but it won't change the fact. and after paying the bride price, you're still gonna kneel to suck his device or kneel to take his device from behind... so stop forming hard girl upandan.

In today's world, many women find it trendy and classy including their father's name to their husband's name when they get married. Most of them don't even know why it's done, they just do it because they saw others doing it. Many of such women profess to be Christians without knowing that doing such is an open rebellion against their father, their husband and God who instituted marriage from the beginning.

This evil rebellious trend was made popular by Hollywood where you see a Jada Pinkett married to Will Smith now choosing to call herself Jada Pinkett-Smith. The trend quickly got copied by African actresses like Omotola Jalade who got married to Mr. Ekeinde now choosing to call herself Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. These popular people whom many have chosen as role models have led many into emulating the same idea. That's why many Nigerian ladies on Facebook now have hyphenated names.

This new trend which seems like what has come to stay is a total disregard for God and tradition. Please read the below Bible passages.

Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Ephesians 6:1-3
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

The first excuse women who have hyphenated names give is that they are honoring their father who raised them by giving them the best which made them who they are today. That's why they have to retain his name when married just to ensure his name lives on. This is stupidity at it's highest order. Such a woman is only satisfying her ego and not her father.

Did the poor man ever asked to be honored let alone in that way? Did he tell you that when he got married to his own wife, he allowed her to do such to him? Why do you now think he will be happy to know you are causing pain to a young man who is your husband all in the name of an honor he never asked for?

The above passage says you should honor your father and mother, but before that it says OBEY your parents. Failing to do the first part is the reason why you are honoring your father in the wrong manner. If you truly love your father, then why did you disobey what he did on the day you got married?

On the day you got married, he did something symbolic which is very traditional. He walked you down to the altar and handed you over to the man whom you got married to on your wedding day. What he simply did was handover authority over you to your husband and new daddy. It is him you are to obey henceforth. Not saying you are to now start disregarding your parents, but they now have a little authority over your life.

You obeyed your father while under his roof. He gave you the best due to your obedience. Now that he has given you to a man as wife, it is that man you are to obey just as you did your father. Bringing in your father or his name into the man's house is the same as having two captains in a ship. Your father won't even want that because such was never done to him. Hyphenating your name is the same as saying that when your father walked you down the alter, he never handed you over to your husband, instead he also got married to him just as you did.

Some women will say they hyphenate just to preserve their father"s name. Won't that same name die when you die? Can you see how stupid that reasoning is?

Another quarter will say their father's name open doors for them, so they have to keep it because the name of the man whom they married can not even ring a bell but not to talk of opening doors.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the L ORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Such women are trusting in man instead of God. They believe God who said they should submit to their husband cannot direct their path, so they rely on their rich and famous earthly father who can drop dead at any minute. What is wrong with such women is pride and greed. They don't want to seem to know that they are no longer under their father's roof. They want to eat their cake and have it.

If you don't love a man well enough to submit to him and bear his name alone, then marriage is not for you. Stay in your father's house and keep enjoying the benefits of his name. Getting married and disregarding all of these will mean you have disobeyed many persons.

First you have disobeyed God who told you to submit to your husband just as you submit to Him.

Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Secondly, you have disobeyed your father who symbolically handed you over to your husband as the new authority over you. You have done the wrong thing.

Ephesians 6:1-3
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Thirdly, you have failed to submit to your husband. No wonder many married women are not having happiness in their homes. They do everything right without knowing that this one single thing that looks harmless is what is causing God to prevent happiness from reigning in their household.

As for sissy men who allow their wives to keep their father's name, your kind is the reason why society is messed up today. If you look at your marriage carefully, you will see that you lack authority there all because you allowed one foolishness to come into it. You are disobeying God by changing traditions.

Proverbs 22:28 King James Version (KJV)
Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

Please it doesn't matter if you are Christian Muslim or traditional, let me catch my future wife...

In the near future people would start bearing names like ;

Mary, Peter.
Elizabeth, Edgar.
Janeth, Payne.
Mercy, Joy.
Vivian, Victoria.

It’s none of my business though, let anyone choose any name that suit him or her.

You just singlednout on verse and took it out of context. That verse wasn't talking g about marriage but relationship between Christian brothers. If you had read from the beginning of the chapter, you would have seen that. Now, I. that same chapter, you will find where marriage relationship is spoken of.

As seen below, women are to submit to their husband who is the head.The passage went on to state that Jesus is the head of the church, and that as the church submits to Jesus, so should wives submit to their husband. The passage doesn't say men should also submit as you claim, otherwise it will mean that Jesus should submit to the church too.

Please read below.

Ephesians 5:20-29

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

Oga, stop deceiving yourself. That whole passage was referring to man and wife.

It has nothing to do with weakness. I'm sure if you married the daughter of a popular billionaire and she chooses to keep her father's name in public domain, you'd do absolutely nothing. You legally married her and you belong to one another.

You are the one deceiving yourself. If the whole passage was referring to man and wife, then Jesus Christ also ought to submit to the church too. If the church says it wants people to have sex orgy inside its auditorium, Jesus ought to submit too.

Can you see how wrong you are?

I see no big deal in a woman taking her father's name as her middle it shows where she comes from and also her pedigree.

I just pray my daughter discards hers cos na almost half of the alphabet e carry no space for middle middle name

Lool... The part I wonder about the most is... Their children will still bear their husband's name in the very end...since their aim is to ensure their fathers name doesn't die...duhhh, it's going to die with you woman. Honestly, let's call a spade a spade, religion aside self. It doesn't make any sense. But oh well, people must try to be fake deep and sentimental... I see Nwamaipke viewing this thread... This should be fun.
The point is not to save her father's name, after all she has brothers answering her father's name, the point is to still identify with her family members, like when someone here her maiden name the people will know she's from this family married to this family, you guys should use ur sense at times

it is a very pathetic thing! This is a primitive practice that should be expunged; it serves no purpore,rather than showing the subjugation of the females. A man n a woman coming together should be based on love,mutual trust and a sense of responsibility to oneself n parner. But if u can not find someone based on those things,then stay single. It is not a must to marry!

That's all

On the dayvof judgment everybody will be called by their father's names, not their husband's name.
Rationale: what if there is divorce, the women will be changing their names from one husband to another.
It happened to my sisters when she tried to do combination of result, one carries her husband name while the other carried her father name, that's why she dropped out of university.

Who is talking about feminism here? I am sure you will tag me a feminist very soon. Oga, the bottom line is those verses quoted up there do not in any way back you up. A woman completely dropping her surname after marriage is just an opinion and nothing more than that.

Some men can feel insecure about the tinniest and most trivial things. The society already placed men at a supreme position, stop massaging your already bloated egos with unimportant things.
why did noami and her daughter keep their late husband name so they can raise kids for their late husband and continue the family name? even the kid(obeb) that was raised by that arrangement end up being Christ ancestor. don't you know in the Bible when a man dies without giving birth kids , his brother will raise kids with the wife and she will keep her husbands name and all the kids riase will bear that husband name.
that I am saying all this does not mean I will treat my wife badly when I get married. people like us end up giving our wife a better treatment than you guys
