Recruiting mercenaries to fight a war on your own soil is one of the dumbest thing GEJ did as Machiavelli rightly wrote that a "mercenary, having no allegiance, will eventually hold the prince who employs him hostage for increasing amounts of money".
I laugh when people quote medieval minds in this century. That quotation was made when mercenaries were just thugs ready to die or clinch on whatever hope of sustaining available.
You call them mercenaries but the modern world call them Military Contractors, Private Specialized Ops, Private Investigators etc
Stop quoting 14 century opinion in 2018, especially on military issues. Machiavelli would have advised the prince against cyber intelligence and Drone Invention investment.

In short simple terms, buhari needs to rehire your company to help us fight boko haram?
And the best time to reiterate this point is when Nigeria just lost some of our gallant fighters?.

I hope Us army also called him for a contract hire when they lost 4,424 men in Iraq and 2,372 in Afghanistan .

Its very clear that boko haram has turned into a billion dollars industry with many benefactors(like the arms dealers, meceneries, defense contractors and corrupt government officials) and Nigerians the sole lossers (same losers still politicising it out of sheer ignorance).

One thing is certain about northeast, they have the violence ideology, and no amount of war can change it. They were the same matersina sect of the 80s, they had another one in the 90s and now 2012 till date, this are different Generation with same ideology.

Should we continue paying meceneries for are recurrent problem, since Goodluck paid in dollars few days to 2014 election, Buhari should also pay some days to 2019 elections. When are we going to end such cycle. Who even know if the beneficiary of the war are the ones arming boko haram
I think those personnel still in contact with that incompetent company should be checked, probed and prosecuted if necessary. Then sue, / sanction that stupewd useless Jonathan company if found wanting...

A president whose first task in office every day is to read newspaper cartons and jokes can never be relied upon to take security intelligence reports seriously, the truth is the dullard does not even know what and what he is supposed to do or say at any given time.

Exactly!!!
People forget so soon that bokoharam's group was once a mercenaries for the northern politicians to kill Christians, before holding the elites hostage for backing out of agreed contract. Now a terrorist group with allegiance to isis and other terrorist groups

perhaps GEJ best decision as Commander in chief was to engage those South African mercenaries. with their experience, they got the job done, there's no need to stick to pride when your troops are dying on the fronts. This is a unit trained and armed by Eben Barlow's mercenary units. the routed Boko Haram within weeks to the election, making elections possible in the North East.

The mercenary were the one that introduced the Reva Mraps into the Nigerian army armoury, go to the north east and ask of Reva Mraps!

I believe president buhari believed terminating their contract was best for the country. But sometimes good intentions turn out badly.

Those guys have the tools and the intelligence, the have men getting black Intel on ground, all we have to do is fight this war the smart way.

Outsourcing will mean we let the mercs fight while more Nigerian soldiers get to go home alive and see their wife and kids. That way we spend much less on deployment, and pay mercenaries to do the dirty work. it's a win win for the mercenaries and buhari's administration.

I beg to differ with your opinion. We need to develop capacity and efficiency in our armed forces to secure the nation. Outsourcing our defence needs means that we are just wasting money on the army. The real problem with our armed forces are nepotism, corruption, quota system and acute dearth of intelligence. Henceforth, we need to take corrective action to remedy the rot in our armed forces.

We can't continue wasting money on mercenaries as it is not sustainable and viable in the long run.

While I agree that we should not renew the defence contracts with the mercenaries, I take exception to your personalization of our defence problems. Jonathan tried his best while he was in power and we voted him out due to perceived corruption.

If you feel Buhari is loved by most Nigerians, then you are deluded. Millions of Nigerians hate Buhari because of his extremist islamic ideology but we still respect and let him lead this country. If we are going to solve our problems by pointing fingers and looking backwards, we might as well scatter everything as some of you have hijacked our publice discourse with a religious slant. Two can play that game but that will be detrimental to Nigeria's development.

Leave Jonathan alone and face Buhari who's the commander in Chief of the Nigerian armed forces.

We have a problem. Boko haram has overwhelmed our army. Now should we continue because of useless national pride to loose ground and the lives of our troops? Our army is simply not capable. We are not talking about beating up civilians in the east. We are talking about boko haram a motivated armed group!
You need professional civilian contractors ie mercenaries that have the experience, that understand guerrilla warfare to fight the terrorist brutally! Of cause their motivation to place their lives in harms way is "dollars" and the love of war.

Like many problems facing Nigeria, we replace a problem with another. Fulani herdsmen are killing, we think voting out a Fulani buhari and voting in Fulani atiku would make any difference, rather than face the problem head on, through modern ranching and grazing reserves, our educational standard slowly drifted lower, instead of funding it and facing the problem we started issuing out Private university licences which inevitably poor people can't afford. Now the army had a very good run for the past few years without lossing any terretory to boko haram and we suddenly had an ambush in a border town of metele due to lack of supplies by the army due to corruption of some top men, rather than solve that, you want us to ignore that and bring in meceneries... This is the mindset that made us privatize everything the colonialist left us, and that which the regional government gave us

There is nothing wrong in using private armies as long as you their employer has some level of control over them. U.S uses those resident in the U.S like Blackwater's who are under some form of U.S regulations. Same with France Legionnaire. South African mercenaries are byproducts of the apathied SA army. You don't expect them to have unalloyed support for your country.

I did not bring Jonathan in, your team brought him in, through that company. Check that report again.
Mind you, I'm not a partisan neither do I support buhari but according to that report, your coy seems very desperate just like your candidate. They want to have the contract back by all means just like your candidate/party wants the power back by all means. And moreover, it is not safe to work with a private coy that has initially worked with your no1 enemy / opposition, they will always work against your plan just like the way they are doing now. If not so, why are they coming up with this now as if they warned recently against the recent tragedy; coming up with this irrelevant note after 3yrs of contract termination is actually disgusting...shior!
I blame that incompetent full sha, for allowing miscreants to get into our supposed formidable system.

The main aim of this trash was stated below somewhere. They're pained because their contract was terminated. If there were as many as 100 soldiers present in that location, it only proves that the military had massive presence on ground. They just need to step up their game to guard against this type of ambush in the future.

There are soldiers whose primary duty is surveillance to guard ambushes.

RIP to the dead ones.
you are right.but going into battle with inferior war equipment is surely a suicide mission. Let them addres that part and make sure their alawance is increased and you will see their moral will return.
