Hi pals,

I have been a silent follower of this thread. Now I have my interview slated for dec2 and I have 4 questions.

1. Is it compulsory to go with a student copy of your academic transcripts as the one I requested from my school here is not ready due to the strike. I have my certificate.

2. What are the pros/cons of adding an aunt - who has stayed legally for 15 years and is now a Registered Nurse to your application? She won visa lottery that year.

3. Is 19mil naira okay for a program that'd cost 36k usd?

4. What are the pros/cons of presenting a 7-band GENERAL IELTS test certificate? Abi I should kukuma keep it at home as it's not the 'academic' type?

Gurus, please help as usual.

Please help

If you're applying for fall 2019, you are already behind schedule. You should register to write your GRE as soon as you can, as test dates for this year are almost full (December 13th was the last date in Lagos as at last check). With respect to the TOEFL test, many schools in the US are now beginning to waive the TOEFL test for Nigeria (you can confirm from the school's website or from the graduate school). Your best bet will be to apply to schools that waive TOEFL and don't require external evaluation (e.g. WES) of your transcript (many schools do their own evaluation). Also, consider that priority deadlines to be considered for some form of funding is usually either in December or January. All in all, you're still in order if you start now.
Thanks and God bless you. I had my first degree at benin republic but am a Nigerian that was why i felt TOEFL would be required.

To answer your questions:

1: You don't need to go to the interview with your academic transcript. If the embassy need it at all, they will ask you to send it to them. So, no worries. Your certificate will do, and I am sure they won't even check that, too.

2: She is your aunt, not your Mom or Dad. So why adding her? Were you part of the lottery she won? Adding her doesn't add any chance; it might even dent it. Mind your own business!

3: N19M. is cool. You should not worry about this as you should whether or not you've prepared well enough.

4: Your IELTS test score is cool. 7-band is fine.

Goodluck on your interview.

As for me I will urgently him not to go with the IELTS at all as it is not the academic exam
These might sound an immigrant intent to the V.O
Because he said his IELTS is the working exam and not academic
