You sound very aggrieved. ASUU is not your problem but the successive FG who feel you deserve the worst while they send their wards to the best schools abroad.

As long as the FG wants to play hard, this strike may last up to year cos they are that determined and very ready.

ASUU is not a kiddies union you can threaten with salaries. Concerning research, you know absolutely nothing about the quality of research ongoing in our universities.

Continue siding with the politicians while they degrade the tertiary education system even your grand kids will Be ashamed off just like the primary and secondary schools.
My simplest solution to the hardened ASUU members is to declare their absence as voluntary withdrawal of service after conducting a recruitment process for their replacement even from Ghana and securing a court order

use ur head as a student rather than throwing insults..... paying them salaries during strike gives them more rooms to continue the strike.

where in the world do they pay workers without working?

There is a level to administrative madness and the FG knows that.

Kogi State tried that and today most departments are totally dead.

You can't even win that in the court of law without incurring heavy damages. The FG can't dare try such and they know it.
Recently on Tuesday this week, the court ruled in favour of 2 UNILORIN ASUU excos who were unceremoniously sacked simply because they chose to fight for the system.

Go figure.

They don't give monthly salary allocation. Salaries are paid directly to staff from central bank. However, the universities still prepare the salaries and advice Abuja on what to pay on a month by month basis.

Pls, listen and learn

Universities aren't under IPPIS payroll system and therefore, the universities are given the salaries of staff to pay the staff.

angry FG should let ASUU fix the tuition fee of its own university and fully govern it self like top universities in Africa, Europe and america does. Its very clear FG can't fund a standard 21st century university, with minimum of masters degree holder as its teaching staffs, so there is no point bullying them. If government wants to help, it should be through scholarships and student loans to deserving students, and research grants on areas challenging Nigeria. And let's be realistic, No civil servant runs his/her personal business like they run Nigerian agencies and department, non of them can pay a staff who doesn't show up for work

That can only happen in private universities.

Government universities are controlled by government policies.

You're an a.ni.mal and I will tell you why.

This government has NO RESPECT for the law of law and does not obey court orders. Several rulings in favour of different unions have been given which government refused to implement. The same government will go to the SAME court to obtain injunctions forcing unions to stop their strike and go back to work. That's all they have been doing since they came to power in 2015.
But never mind, they will be voted out

. which lazy man.??. Have u been to any federal school lately.?. Have u been to their laboratory
as well.?. Can u imagine that the departmemt of Animal Science the Prestigious University of Ibadan does not have the adeqaute distiler to generate distil water for lab works.?? when I did my program, we had to be moving from office to office to collect The water that was coming out from The Air condition. Haba! ! is that how a Nigerian university will be rated among The best in Africa.
The federal Government should also implement and order all political appointee , Commissioner, Ministers, Governor and the presidency to send their children to Federal Univeristies in Nigeria.
Until their children school in Nigeria, these selfish leaders will not spend adequately on our university.

ASUU should stop expecting the Government to fund universities perfectly well but to convince the Government to link up every university with a world class company for assistance under the term corporate social responsibilities.

The government should go a step further beyond no work no pay.

They should permit the Vice Chancellors to advertise those roles as vacant and immediately get replacements for them like what a state in South West did to medical doctors recently.

Get competent and smart key personnel to man the classrooms, what we have today is not only appalling but equally despicable gangs of hangers on overrated copy cats.

Until then, ASUU will remain a nuisance to the system.

More of the challenges of these universities and their funding is kleptomaniac tendency of the administrators and personnel.

Funds for research and development are usually diverted by these same goons that are on strike.

They quickly wanted to tap in on the success recorded by labour on the minimum wage negotiation coupled with the incoming elections to blackmail the government and hand twist them.
Check what was released to the sector by the current administration.

Devil will surely reward ASUU as obviously they serve no God
And you think this prayer will work?? How many of such prayers have worked on erring politicians??

...the no work no pay policy is not new to ASUU... The military regime did it... Obj and GEJ but it doesn't work... It's actually hard to implement because you need the school administration to comply and vice chancellor... The VCs will be scared because ASUU na all academic staffs, you have problem with them and your position as VC is threatened... A lot is involved, it always doesn't work... It's only the school admin can say if a staff doesn't come to work, so even the VCs will be careful because they them self are professors and academician too... Na there colleagues

Imagine been paid a fraction of salaries by the FG for over 36 months..

Sometimes I blame ASUU when I read posts like this. One solution to this problem has always been to jerk up school fees. Someone has to fund the system, and if you folks don't want us to make government do it, then go ahead and pick up the slack.

Funny how you guys don't realize that government has already gotten away with murder at the secondary level. Today, public secondary schools are increasingly an option for only the poor. If you want qualitative secondary education for your kids, you know what to do. No strike, no tantrums, no name-calling or demonizing. If you're poor, you take your kids to podunk college, where their odds of ever seeing the 4 walls of a federal university become almost zero.

Someone wants to destroy public universities in a similar way. It's either government, or fools who don't realize what's at stake, or parents who don't want to pay for top education. ASUU won't let that happen (and you lot better hope ASUU doesn't just throw in the towel in disgust).

The irony is this: whatever happens, the lecturers are the ones who will suffer the least.

And, lest I forget, yeah, we're ready for no-work-no-pay. Bring it on.

Hope ASUU guys now know the difference between an educated president and an illiterate, a Democrat and an autocrat.

GEJ gave you guys many things: tetfund grants for conferences and research; 14 new federal universities which further opened up University education, provided jobs for your trainees and sabbatical opportunities for you; #200 billion naira as an instalment of the #1.3 trillion for University revitalization with a promise to pay in installments for another four or five years.

He gave you all these but yet his worst critics were the University Dons, including that midget and fake pastor Osinbajo. Not forgetting Akin Oyebode of UNILAG and Attahiru Jega, the compromised INEC boss.

Others are too numerous to count. I've had the opportunity of talking to some University lecturers to hear their view about this mistake of a generation (Buhari) that we call president. It surprised me to know that some of them still believe that he's the best for the job. THEN, I SAFELY CONCLUDED THAT WISDOM IS NOT A FUNCTION OF DEGREES.

Enjoy your change, you deserve it.

ASUU should tell the Government to make it compulsory for all big companies to be connected to all Nigerian Universities so as help upgrade the labs/workshops.

Nigerian students brace up. The Federal Government of Nigeria will pay and before that, these strike might last for 6 months.

You and ASUU do not still understand the difference between collecting money from industries and connecting industries to universities.

Eg

Tell Nigerian Breweries that, Unilag labs/workshops are under it's care and will be given tax breaks every 10years and you will see how upgraded Unilag labs/workshops will become.
