Catholic Church Reacts To Father Mbaka's Controversial Political Statement by MediahelmNGR: 10:52pm On Dec 04, 2018
The Catholic Church has distanced itself from controversial clergyman and Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, who in a recent video, was seen berating former Anambra state governor and PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for refusing to openly donate to his ministry.

Yesterday, a video of Father Mbaka verbally attacking Peter Obi for not saying how much he was donating to his ministry at his church's bazaar and annual harvest service, went viral.

In the video, Father Mbaka said neither the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, nor President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, willld win the 2019 presidential election.

“Listen, so that we won’t be deceiving God. As you are standing in the presence of these children of God, tell God what you will do for Him… It means you don’t want to do anything for God. Let me believe in fear, but this is a political statement. God hates stinginess. What I am saying is not for your pleasure. I am saying what will save your life, otherwise, you and Atiku will fail. The way you and Atiku are moving will end in shame.” he said

Reacting to the controversy that the video has generated, the Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, in an interview with The PUNCH, said the diocese was not in support of Mbaka's comments and that it was wrong for any priest to make political statements.

“The diocese is not in support of any priest making political statements. The church is supposed to be apolitical and the Bishops’ conference has said that repeatedly. We are not supposed to make any political statements from the pulpit within the context of Mass, that is, church service. So, it would be wrong to stand at the pulpit to make any political statements.

There is a document issued by the Bishops’ conference to that effect. So, he just spoke on his own, not representing the diocese. We are not expected to come out openly to support a particular candidate for any reason. The church law does not accept such a thing. So, it would be wrong for anybody (priest) to come out and give an endorsement to a particular candidate.” he said

Speaking further, Achi said that disciplinary action against Mbaka would be carried out by the priest’s administrative head if the need arises.

Even after this whole show of shame, the gullible ones will still converge there in the name of adoration. God help us

It is now obvious mbaka is bigger than the whole Catholic church in Nigeria

He said all these things as a catholic priest and he wasn't deroped or made to apologize to obi undecided

He says things without minding what his superiors would do

Every other Catholic priest gets transferred but mbaka has never been transferred. Maybe cos of the amount of money he rakes in for the Catholic church.

I love Nigerians and their selective outrage.
If adeboye or oyedepo had said or done the same thing you will see them arguing about the "context" it was said.
Catholic priests have been raping kids and Nuns have been abusing kids. Where's the outrage?!
I see people saying this "mbaka's act have made me ashamed to be catholic" so it's extortion that made you ashamed to be a catholic not the decades of child abuse that has been swept under the carpet.

Kept it up religious folks!

God bless Nigeria.

Mbaka is a disgrace to the Catholic church and Christianity at large.

People like him will definitely loot public funds if he finds himself in the corridors of power.

The way men of God threaten people just to get them to release money is alarming. The way Mbaka or what's his name did to Peter Obi in public is the same way they threaten people out of public view. They make you feel like if you don't give them money evil will happen. What if I don't have money? Maybe GEJ refused to give Mbaka money and that made him turn against him

this man has long left the work of God. he is only after what he can get on this very same Earth he preach destruction and fire on. always deceiving people, telling them to build their mansion in heaven while they grab all they can get on Earth in the name of people doing something for God, even if it means dining with the devil.

See them "emotional blackmailers".. so when PDP finally looses he will say it is God's doing. But when PDP wins he will use the same excuse apostle Suleiman normally uses "God overturned the prophecy".
Why have ppl not realize how dubious these thrives called pastors and imams are? I always tell ppl, if I die today I'm happy how my life turned out. The past 2018years one sandals wearing scammer told u he will come back and you still believe he's on his way back. Hmmm chai!!
