Excelboi:Yeah same happened to my friend when he decided to cut cost on feeding his birds. The result was that d birds dint lay eggs. So he had to switch back and after a week they started laying. |

I doubt anyone here has really being raising layers , my dad had a poultry farm for more than 20 years and the average age they start dropping is 24 weeks , if you have chicks that drop earlier then you are lucky to have that set of breed dropping at an earlier age. Do not fret and wait out till they attain 24 weeks ( you should only be worried if it extends to 26 weeks ) , in the mean time you can give them vitamin premix to boost their development 3 Likes |

Likely set backs:
1. Poor feeding ( quality and quantity)
2. Change in location (deep liter to battery cage)
3. Worms (deworm them)
4. Hatchery problem
5. Too much of medications (antibiotics)
6. Poor weight
7. Village council verdict |

Feed them properly with grower .these birds that am seeing can not weigh 1.5 kg hence, don't expect bird of weight less than 1.5 to give u egg. Serve them feed Adlibitum that is without rationing . give include vitamins into their feed twice a week. Excelboi: |

Excelboi: Honestly at this point you need to speak with a real expert. But I’m very sure it’s not growers they need right now. They don’t need any growth again. They need to be laying eggs. First I’ve never heard of anything called prelayers. What I know is that you feed them growers till they start dropping eggs themselves then you switch to layers. Second you don’t go from prelayers to growers. You were supposed to go from prelayers to layers. My suggestion is this. Going by the second picture of 22weeks. The positioning of their arms/wings shows they ready to start laying eggs. 1. Take one of them, kill it and look for sign of egg production in her egg pouch(there should be something like a chain of tiny eggs). Once there’s sign of egg production then you proceed with prelayers. 2. i. Stop the growers immediately ii. go back to prelayers(feed them for 3days with a lot of water iii. Then switch to layers and let’s see what happens. 2 Likes |

Excelboi:first of all, its like you were not giving them the proper feed. you don't switch from grower feed to layer feed until you see dropping of about 40% (not exactly sure of the figure). also the reason why they're not yet laying may be because of stress, maybe there are times you didn't feed them at the right time. they are very fragile animals and that stress could accumulate and delay their drop date. my advice to you is to feed them regularly and don't skip their feeding time, also feed them the right qty. about 200birds consume 1bag in a day(we use vital feed brand so i don't know if it's a brand thing..) continue giving them grower only until you pick about 20-30 eggs a day. never leave them without water. water does 70%of the work, while feed does the rest. you can also try giving them booster in their water if they're about to start laying, there are ways to tell - their head(that thing that's on their head), will be reddish and will grow out -when you do like you want to catch them, they won't try to run, but they will stay in one place and squat -you can put your finger in their behind, if it slips in, then they're close... i personally never tried this last one, but I've seen someone do it. Finally, stick with one brand of feed. i recommend vital feed... I'll restate, keep giving them grower until they start dropping 2 Likes |

Excelboi: The emboldened are where you got it wrong.. You don't change livestock feed abruptly.. I really feel for the birds because of the metabolic stress they must have gone through as a result of poor managerial skill from you sir.. If you gave them vaccines and they still got infested with viral disease such as lasota, I further confirms my claim.. Well, my advice is that you should sell them off and start again. Because it's very difficult to bring a laying bird back to laying phase... Except you are ready to spend more than envisaged... At week 22, you should have 10% hen day production... But if you insist you want to bring them back to life production wise: Note, are you giving the birds enough and adequate water? The methionine in the diet, I hope it's not adulterated? If you cheat laying birds as little as a gram of feed, they will also deprive you of eggs.. Are you adhering to the photo period required? Do the birds have bright eyes? What is your bird source, how reputable is the company? I can keep on going sir. Factors that could be responsible are much more than I can mention. In fact do you know you could be using adulterated vaccines too? Such as expired or vaccines that has broken cold chain, when do you feed them, do you feed them? What color is the faeces?... And so on Well, possible solutions are; 1, flush the birds via fasting method as prescribed by owoeye and Akande 2012 2, check the birds for presence of lice or any other ectoparasites.. 3, I wish you could stay on quality commercial feed because you never can tell the quality of the feed ingredients used in the one you formulated.. 4, multivitamin is also inevitable but to be sincere you never can diagnose birds you don't see.. All the best sir/ma Owoeye T. I |

I think u are the cause of the problem ,its very easy for you to go online and google search anything u think u are not getting wrong, firstly at 22weeks u are using 2 feeder for 85 birds its very wrong, at least u should be having 10 to 12 feeders likewise the drinker, make that correction and u chat me privately |
Re: 22 Weeks Old Layers Not Laying Yet by jamesnick: 5:05pm On Dec 12, 2018 |
That's not too bad. Unless after 24 weeks before u may think something is wrong. The average time of laying is between 17-24wks so urs is still within the range |

the problem started from the cost cutting and making feed yourself,I have bred 500 issa brown that started laying in 16 weeks on top feed grower before switching to layers,if they don't attain that weight it will not lay,I will even advice to give them top feed starter for at least one week and see if the protein levels in it will boost their weight gain, also use amin total vitaminl in the water, remember to vaccinate against fowl pox its time for it. |
