The Nigerian Army has organised a private burial for over 100 officers and soldiers killed during terrorist attacks on Nigerian Army 157 Task Force Battalion last month, The PUNCH has learnt.

Our correspondent was told by one of the widows of the officers that the burial would take place in Maiduguri on Friday.

It was, however, learnt that the army wanted the event to be private so that the real number of slain soldiers will not be known.

One of the widows who did not wish to be identified said, “I was invited for the burial of my husband with a few others this Friday in Maiduguri.

“Sincerely, we don’t even know how many will be buried and the army is not giving us any information.”

A colonel, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the army decided to make the burial private in order to hide the true casualty figure.

He said, “Gen Buratai said only 23 soldiers were killed in the attack. He also put the number of troops wounded in action at 31. However, we all know that is not true. Over 100 were killed and a private burial is now being organised in order not to expose their lies.”

When our correspondent called the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.Gen Sani Usman, for comment, he cut all calls, asking our correspondent to send a text message instead.

However, he refused to respond to a text message sent to him as of press time.

Lt. Col. Ibrahim Sakaba had died alongside over 100 soldiers on November 18, 2018.

His younger brother, Lt. Yakubu Sakaba, was also killed by Boko Haram on October 5, 2014.

In a video circulated recently, soldiers deployed in the war-ravaged North-East blamed obsolete equipment and corruption among top military brass for the massive losses in personnel since the latest attacks on military formations began in July.

It pains so much to here people die out of carelessness of the people in authority. The soldiers are under equipped and also from the situation reports, the insurgents have planted moles in the military. If this is true together with their more sophisticated weapons, there is barely any hope of winning this battle. We really need the help of God in this issue.

When Nnamdi Kanu called Nigeria a zoo, people said he was insulting the country, now pray, tell me which normal country will treat its own soldiers that died in such a gruesome way in the battle field with such disrespect? If this were to be America, UK, SA etc there would have been a national broadcast, a full television coverage with their coffins draped in the national colours, an acknowledgment of the names and pictures of the dead soldiers, an acknowledgment of their grieving relatives and a 21 gun salute among others but look at what we have here

Such a shame and disgrace, SMH at the zoo!!!

Over 100 soldiers died in one fell swoop, including a Lt colonel yet the president didn't show any form of outrage, no investigation was conducted to ascertain the direct as well as remote cause of such massacre of soldiers, yet they began to play politics with it by denying their deaths!!!

The question now is, if no investigation was conducted and no one was held responsible or even the chief of army staff being sacked, how are we sure that such a calamity won't reoccur again??
Why is life so cheap in Nigeria?? Are these dead soldiers not human beings with dreams that were cut short as well as loved ones that will miss them dearly??
Why are they being treated this way and why is everyone keeping quiet in the face of all these atrocities that is happening under this evil government??
God, the Lt col who was killed alongside the others also had his younger brother killed only a month ago by the same boko Haram!!!

This is outrageous to say the least, instead of the Nigerian army to destroy these terrorists, it is now the boko Haram has taken the fight to them and is now recording strings of successes cry cry

What are thier names. Joke of a country. Zoo republic. Captain Nwogu my personal friend and brother has been killed and uptill today they're saying he is missing in action. Federal government should do a full video of Metele as at today so we can ascertain the level of damage and also to prove that boko haram has not taken charge of the place. Buhari should lead the troops there himself because that's why we voted for him. My Father inlaw will be regretting ever voting for Buhari from his grave. cry cry

In the UK yesterday, there were calls for the prime minister, Theresa May to resign because some people in the UK are not happy with the way she is handling the brexit, same thing is happening to Macron in France over something as little as increment of diesel price!!! But in Nigeria, an old man who has failed in all ramifications still has the effrontery to be going for reelection and as if that is not enough madness already, there are still some re.tar.ded people who are still supporting him!!

On what basis is Buhari going for reelection in the light of all his failures??

Nigerians are some of the worst citizens any country can have and it is not a surprise that we have become the world's capital of poverty, diseases, illiteracy, deaths etc and this is because both the government and the citizens are grossly irresponsible.

If only a fraction of all these madness were to happen in sane climes, the president would have long resigned or forced to do so but here he is still on his seat like nothing is happening and is even going for reelection and promising them next level cry cry Next level of what please If the current level is this bad, how will the next level be

IT SULKS TO BE A NIGERIAN!!!!!

I've never seen a country as useless as Nigeria. The day we restructure or totally divide this country, 50% of our problem will be solved.

Most Nigerians vote a person into power just because he or she is from their region, ethnic group or religious organization

Ordinary Boko Haram they are dying like chickens I wonder what will happen when Israel backed IPOB decides to go headlong against the military.

Does encouraging FG to act stupid against IPOB should not complain when they are forcefully drafted to fight and die against Biafrans like flies and mosquitoes.
