What's so special about him going through London.

BA is not any better with customers service towards Nigerians on routes from Heathrow to Lagos.

Since Nigerians have refused to respect and behave themselves, they will continue to be treated like the trash they have presented themselves to be.

Hmmm...as bitter as your statement sounds you are not far from the truth.

Nigerians are always in a hurry to go nowhere. It's like the sense of patience and waiting one's turn in orderliness is not something we want to subject ourselves to. It's like we see it as being tortured to maintain orderliness.

A typical exam is with the traffic lights on most of the major roads in Nigeria. The traffics lights there are just for show of which is hardly obeyed also with the traffic wards practically doing nothing to contain the rowdiness of traffics for which they have been hired to direct.

Being in a flight with Nigerians (especially the older ones) is one of the worst experiences I have to ensure from time to time undecided

From the loud clapping and hallelujah when plane land
to the shouts of Jesu! Jesu! when it seems there is a problem with landing, to every one wanting to rush out at the same time undecided

What kind of animals do I have as country men?

You're absolutely correct. We are always on the fast lane even when we are alone. Orderliness doesn't exist in our dictionary.
A lot is wrong with us, and I see no way out.

. The problem started from Frankfurt to Nigeria. Lufthansa ensured they gave Nigerians the worst services they can come up with. The boarding gate was in the middle of nowhere, the gate lounge was not opened so we were standing at their corridor, finally when their staff came - no apology .she opened and we all trooped in like Sheep. I never felt so degraded - worst customer service I've seen at Airports. The flight time changed without warning and no apology, sometimes they made announcement in German without translation. They asked us to check-in the hand luggage cos they claimed there was no space in the plane. Finally we got a rowdy boarding - survival of the fittest. In my history of flying I have never seen such hostile hostesses, the aircraft bathroom was not working properly and they would leave your food trays with you untill you beg them to remove it.
When choosing airlines ..I always wanted to avoid the flying Turkey or those Airlines with terrible customer service - I expected more from Lufthansa - however some said they have excellent service , they just don't think Nigerians deserve it.

After 21 hours journey I finally saw Lagos Airspace - Looked like it was enveloped in smoke and dust - every other Airspace I saw you could see the houses clearly - Lagos had this fog cover that makes it look like a 2nd cloud. The next thing was the German announcement - a strange sound from the bottom of the plane and the English translation said Landing was aborted. Oh God of Moses - I didn't tell anyone I was coming home o - Jesus .. save your child .. Landing aborted bawo? After a period that felt like several hours of prayers and fasting - we landed.. and behold the glorious MMIA that looks a building from a CIA movie - when they want to go kidnap a fugitive from a remote jungle in deep Africa. Our airport is the first impression - it looked so dilapidated with missing windows and broken down trucks. Yep ! This is home ! I guess I was expecting more since 2013, however this is Nigeria. I started missing O'Hare immediately.

To be continued .....

I'm not Nigerian but I had to comment on your flight experience with Lufthansa cause I went through a similar experience while going back to my home country sometimes ago.

I also flew with one of those "renowned" Airlines and I had one of the worst customer services experience ever. Terrible...It's like some of those Airlines employees see African Countries as hell. Unhappy Hostesses, poor on ground services, poor on air experience. In my own case, they even "refused" to serve us food at an "appropriate"time. The flight was late, the plane "old", the seats uncomfortable..All around bad...When I think about how much money I paid for the flight ticket, I just shake my head.

The funniest thing is I flew the same airlines some times later to another part of the world( from the same airport) and it was a totally different experience. "Newer" and "cleaner" plane, respectful hostesses, plenty food, very nice on air service etc. You could feel that they knew they were talking to/serving fellow human beings.

Hopefully one day, some our countries will get "there" and we will be treated with the respect we all deserve.

Yea. I wanted to leave a nasty review on their website but changed my mind when I heard other Airlines do same when it comes to some African countries. You need to see the first class service on the flight back to US. They actually insulted a woman because she asked to be taken in a wheelchair. Its so sad. Maybe I would eventually leave them a review and they would give me a life ban from their flight. Nevertheless Lufthansa is off my preferred list for now.

I had the option of BA via London but it had 1 day stop over..I had only 12 days PTO, I didnt have 1 day to spare.

Why opt for a layover? I almost always fly direct from ATL or JFK on Delta except in the situations when I need to spend a few days at a layover city. I've found Delta flights on the A330 to be halfway decent, nothing spectacular for a 12-13 hour flight, but always works out well. I miss the good old days of UA direct flights from Houston on the 787. Those were pretty good too.
Re: My Nigerian Trip by Goldenboy007(m): 10:31pm On Dec 14, 2018
The value of our Naira is something to be worried about .. the smallest denomination I had was a N1000. I gave everybody in thoudands, even trips in Uber were multples of N1000. A flipflop in one Japanese store in shoprite was like N1900.. that was new to me. You might say converted to dollars is nothing but are Nigerians earning dollars ?
Another observation is the expensive home grown food stuffs .. is dollar affecting those too? We all just wanna make life difficult for ourselves.

I got an MTN sim, so they gave me this Yafun Yafun plan, bought N5000 talk credit and N2000 Data. I also got the Mifi and the hotel had WiFi too. The MTN credit got used up in days.. heard it was N40 per minute? That's day light robbery .. didnt we start from gsm at N50 min? 17 years later we are back at N40 per minute. I don't know why they can't do unlimited calls like Telcos in other countries. MTN no try at all.
So my Faux leather jacket didn't like Naija weather so it started peeling and my skin reacted to my silicon wrist band ..I have had it for eons in US ,that didn't happen..guess Naija weather is different. I came with my own cereal - Frosted Flakes , coffee creamer , Trail mix and Yoghurt ..that's how I take cereal ..lol. You can condemn me if you like ..I love it.

I bought on Amazon a voltage adapter - for my gadgets and laptop ..they said the chargers are adapted for 220 volts, but I didn't want to risk it. US is 110 Volts. Another reason I stayed in hotel - constant light without generator noise. I wore different gym shoes throughout and my Birkenstock.

Nigeria is fun without the traffic and heat , people are busier - no friends during the week but weekends were great hang out time. La Mango in GRA was ok. N10000 for 3 catfish peppersoup, back in 2013 ..that was someone's monthly salary.lol. Well better than Ocean Basket ..N25000 to feed 3 people, how are the ordinary Nigerians coping ? Like I said ..yes it's cheap in dollars but are Nigerians earning dollars ? God help us.
Fun almost over ..I have now started enjoying Nigeria - got used to the heat , the crowd was amazing , the chaos started to look like fun, went to Spur in Ikeja Mall. These eatries have a semblance of what we have in US but the food are not at per and their services need more work.
At Spur , the waiter left me after giving me a table ..I had to beg them to bring my food - we need to learn customer service.

Holiday is over ..but I would still tell you more about my experience ..Hotel Services ..oh for US citizens you can register for a program called STEP ..it notifies the nearest US embassy that you are in the country - in case a need for evacaution arises. Go to travel.state.gov . You never can say .lol.

But this is not the way they are trained, and neither is this the way they treat westerners when they are unruly and behave out of turn. These same airlines are the epitome of professionalism and decorum when they are faced with the same situations outside of Africa. They will continue to call their customers sir/ma'am, give them their dues and remain respectful. If they cannont do so, they will call in the authorities. There are definitely double standards in play. They do this because they can get away with it.

That's just d fact.

Infact Nigerians still get better flight services.

I once flew through Egypt to Ethiopia o boy come see aircraft like trailer, damn old, body is shaking, God I prayed all through. My mind is not at rest.
Come and see how Ethiopians are happy.

"They can get away with it"

now the question becomes....

WHY CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH SUCH?

The answer is the basis for why African monkeys deserve no respect

It's the same reason why Africans are killed like goats in the gulf, and the diplomats, foreign office and the govt s of these jokes Africans can't do $hit, instead they are non challant incompetent and heartless

Can they kill a Chinese citizen brazenly like that?

It's the same reason why Foreign companies mistreat workers in their own country, and the useless govt can't do anything to protect its own people undecided

I understand your frustrations with the ineptitude of the Nigerian government overlords. Nigerians should use the advent of the internet and mobile phones to their advantage. Film these incidents. Post them on Instagram and you tube. That usually gets the attention of corporate and moves them to act. Many erring employees have been fired as a result of instagram posts. As one TV personality often says, cell phones are not only for taking and sending naked pictures. use it for something useful grin

We need audio or video evidence to be well publicized to shame the "international moral police" into action. Case in point, Jamal Kashoggi's killing in the Saudi consulate was all but covered up until audio evidence was put out there. CIA evidence of Saudi complicity was even available to U.S. authorities but they tried to cover it up until someone leaked the reports to the press.

Imagine the damage it will do to gulf tourism if someone could document and publicize some of this evidence of abuse. International media will gobble it up and run with it. This is the kind of sensational news they thrive on. The press, now including social media are indeed the fourth estate.

Unfortunately, self help is the only option available to Nigerians. Our government is too busy sharing allocations and awarding ghost contracts.
Last June, I was in traffic in Lagos in a good friends brand new car when we got hit by another car. The driver of the car that hit us was very aggressive and wanted to get physical so I asked my friend to call the police. He laughed and dismissed my suggestion and even the other driver was amused at my statement. So my friend called his buddy who is an OPC commander in the neighborhood. The guy showed up with 4 "vigilantes". It was like we poured cold water on the erring driver. He started to beg and promised to pay up sharp sharp.
If God forbid, there is a natural disaster in Nigeria, foreign nations like the U.S. will evacuate all their citizens. Nigerian govt will be waiting on aid from developed nations to assist their own citizens. May God help us all!

Very funny.

Call the Nigerian police to do what? Even they need higher authorities to be called on them with the way some of them act like animals.

Don't be surprised that even when you get hold of those Naija police men to ask for assistance some if not most of them might end up telling you to come and pick them up to the accident scene because they have no vehicle to get them there.

I weak for my country Nigerian O! This is one of the primary reasons why tourism is dead out there. Lack of proper policing and an impartial justice system. I have been to countries that are considered much more dangerous than Nigeria, but tourism is still booming. Major difference is that they don't joke with public safety of visitors. Police is indeed your friend in some of those countries.

Coincidentally, I will be in Chicago next Tuesday on a business trip, but on a tight regimented schedule. Flying into Dupage or Midway for 9am and leaving by 4pm. I always dread Chicago in the winter. Y'all don't do well with snow. Flights are often cancelled and traffic that is hellacious on a normal day becomes actual hell. But Chicago nightlife can sweet die. Lots of stories to tell from my younger days when I used to go to St. Charles and will hangout with my Japanese, South American and European consulting buddies grin
