Dear @Justwise thank you for creating this thread, this has been so useful to me (a first timer)... and thank you to other experts for serving people selflessly.

And I need your advice please - I recently helped my 18 year old cousin apply for a Short Term UK Student Visa in Abuja through an agent - for a training course that’s starting on the 7th of January; and she was refused for two reasons (I have attached the letter below)

Here’s the back story:
She started a similar training in Nigeria back in April 2018, soon after the training she got an unpaid internship job and fortunately for her, the internship was sponsored by an International Company that offers Scholarship Grants As part of the CSR initiative - and she was one of those who got the training grant.

She was also offered a full time job with a starting salary of N65k to commence immediately after her mandatory training in London. The two companies (her employer and the sponsor) where kind enough to give us all the document we needed plus extras...

they only concern I had was her account balance which was quite low because of her own mistake; but we were told it didn’t really matter since the company provided their own account details and she’s young...

Secondly she had no prove of family ties, because 1. she’s an orphan and her siblings are scattered all over the country, 2. She’s young and not married, left secondary school about a year ago, has no properties or investments... but the agent ignored that. Sadly we didn’t include a covering letter explaining her situation. I only found this thread after the application was submitted - and I just hoped for the best. But we didn’t get the best.

Please I want to know when is the best time reapply, and what should we do differently to better her chances this time? How do show a strong family, social or economic ties from now and on time before her course starts?

Please please we need your help urgently - our agent went silent on us the minute she got the refusal news.

one of my uncles that works with an embassy affirmed ;an embassy have the number of visas to be issued in a daily, weekly monthly basis except for special cases, that's why its always good to apply early, attend your appointment early dress decent, try to be bold but not too forward, ladies mind the way you apply makeup and lipstick(all this are points gotten from tls, they sometimes even go as far as accessing your registered phone number log,in case u don't know TLS adds somehow adds to your application cos if TLS don't score h good,u might have problem, at d entrance of each door where u do your biometric there are 3 buttons green, red and black), after then except you extremely convince the clearance officer ,your visa might be denied no matter what you present..... some people don't even go through the stress of getting too many documents yet they get visas. what I opine

Two invitation letters? Doesn't look good to me. If the brother is married, then it should be a joint invitation letter from the couple. Sending individual letters may trigger suspicion that the brother might not be married or having a reluctant relationship with his sister hence the wife sending a separate one. undecided

In addition, did she include her change of name documents which shows her madien name matching that of her brother? Is he really her brother or cousin? I know some people refer to cousins or distant relatives as brothers grin the ECO would first look at the names to check for similar surnames before anything else.

I don't buy the idea of presenting Whatsapp messages but at least it goes on to show a discussion was held preparatory to the visit but then an email would do more justice to the back and forth between them.

What if no email or Whatsapp? Would the ECO prefer a taped message? Not quite but rather your post letters suffices hence my suggestion of using emails.

The brother in the UK is inviting his immediate younger brother and his family. They are from same parents and bear same surname. They did separate invites to give credence to the application, both of them also gave their payslips, data pages, Residence Permits and all.

Good day everyone. Please am having challenge of registering my tier 4 visa application using visa4uk. Whenever it reach to select visa sub type it will not show anything for me to select. What do i do. Thanks
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by bigtt76(f): 4:43pm On Dec 16, 2018
I understand. What I'm saying is that a single letter of invitation from the brother in UK stating 'my wife and I' looking forward to seeing younger brother and family, rather than the brother sending an invite separately and the wife sending hers.

With a single letter of invite, younger brother and family would do a joking family visit visa application.

To me the separateetters of invite doesn't sound good my opinion though and from experience undecided

Hmmm this sounds pathetic but my question to you

1. Why didn't she list you as a dependent?
2. Has she started working for the company sponsoring her for the training? Or he employment is dependent on the successful completion of the training?
3. I see the company is registered in the UK, do they have the licence to sponsor employee visa to the UK?

Your cousin's account balance and the no dependent state is a source of concern. I would advise she defers the training for like 8 months and try to build up her savings.

By my understanding, the employment letter would only come handy after she's completed the training and resumed work with the company in Nigeria which helps to form the close tie to home economically.

The issue now is that all what you've stated in the first application remains on the database, in reapplying she would need to explain clearly why her situation has suddenly changed (account balance now buoyant and the inclusion of you as a dependent)

She can’t list me as a dependent, because I’m a British citizen, even though I live in Nigeria - didn’t want to complicate things for her.

She’s not working for the sponsor, she was working with a different company (let’s call it Company A) as an intern when she got the Scholarship Grant award from (Company B) - she was offered a full time job by Company A, but they agreed she can start after the training - and the training was recommended by Company A.

She wasn’t applying for employee visa, she was applying for a short study visa, and the school she’s attending has the license to sponsor that. Company B is only the financial sponsor.

That’s what I thought too. Also, the agent didn’t attach a cover letter, it was only the extra information page on the form that she left a short reason for applying.

What are the necessary things to put in place in my next application?

In the previous application, I didn't submit utility bills, mortage or tenancy deeds, property deeds...

Do I need to include them now?

Hello @Justwise,

So we spoke to her boss today, and she advised we appeal. She said when she applied to go for the SAME training she was refused on the same family ties ground... so when she appealed she explained her situation in the cover letter; and she was eventually granted.

Do you think we should also appeal or send a fresh application?

Your agent is lying to you, you select appointment date during visa application process then buy added value package(super priority) separately after registering with TLScontract then go with the payment receipt for your appointment.

I'm not sure you will be able to appeal the decision, check that refusal letter to see if you are given right to appeal

you shouldn't conclude like that...u don't know the cost of what this thing you just said can be,there might be some situations that causes that like a wrong browser.
