If you can help it, stay in school. A degree isn’t the end all be all (particularly in the line of work you’re pursuing) but it will make it a lot easier to get hired to be honest. Merry Christmas 2 Likes |

tommyken: Don't drop out... I'm also in the same situation now and the funny thing is that I also started having that temptation since when am in my 200L; was making a shit load of money then. After getting to 300L, I decided to drop out because I got tired of the system; I can't say this is what I have learnt so far In school with respect to my course (Robotics and Automation) . After so much persuading from lecturers and my parents then, I was convinced not to drop out, so I continued but trust me I give it less attention; most of my attention is making money while still schooling at the same time. It wasn't a very easy task especially when you are the only one catering for yourself; I have been there. I'm in my 400L now and I only have just one year left to go. The point is: graduate with whatever grade you can and focus more on your business; even if it's a third class you graduated with, it doesn't mean, just have the certificate. Good luck brother 6 Likes |

AbuMaryam1: Don't be slow. That's not a smart way to look at this. Becoming rich is never the primary goal of the academic profession. What we do leaves little time to pursue wealth creation in and of itself. Why don't you flip the question and ask: how many billionaires do you know who never went to school 7 Likes |

ok let's see it from both perspectives Education is important Acquiring education outside the classroom is possible. However, structured education is usually feasible only in the classroom (which makes schooling important) Acquiring wealth to ease one's life is the most important thing everyone wishes for. So, starting a business is cool. However, there are additional knowledge you would gain that can improve your business if you study what you have a passion for in the university (not what you were given to study). In summary, if you have the means to start the business and continue the schooling, it's ok. If you don't have such means, acquiring money is more important, but never underestimate schooling Once again, wealth is more important, but education ( 8 Likes 3 Shares |

One thing about higher education is that it's not running away. If you feel like you are done with it, kindly drop out and start business. Reading your write up, it seems you are fed up with school, oga kindly withdraw and start a business for now. Later when u have made enough money, you can always go back to school! You are already a good businessman so I say go for the business. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

School is less about teaching you domain expertise for your chosen profession, and more about teaching you how to think. Evidence of domain expertise is usually a requirement for employment, which is the primary reason why most students endure schooling just to get the certificate that serves as that evidence. The certificate has limited value for people who intend to be self-employed, but even for them, attending a good school can fundamentally shape their ability to reason, and propel them to greater success faster than if they depend on native wit. So, the question of whether going to school is worth it or not depends on many factors. Are blessed with sound critical faculties or do you need formal education to help develop them? Are you desirous of and capable of being self-employed? Are you capable of generating and commercializing anything original, or should you depend on being a cog in a much larger system (i.e. should you pursue a paid job)? * school/schooling as used here means tertiary education 2 Likes |

My Sincere advice for u brother hmmm.....Education is the best as we all know but in Nigeria of today it's not really encouraging, if it's possible for u to transfer ur admission to any of the private university running part-time program is good but if it's not possible.... take a BOLD step to drop out school then u concentrate on business for that 3/4yr left for u to spend in university cos of the system u will spend another 3yrs if u are in 200level plus ur NYSC 4yrs,approximately within that 4yrs if u know what u are doing u must av bn in good shape and possibly next yr or upper yr u can try any of the private university like OPEN UNIVERSITY, NOUN etc. 1 Like |

Guy you have gone far to look back. uote author=tommyken post=74145474]If a man can see the future and consequence of his every action then I believe no man will make a mistake but nature never design it that way. After my ssce I join my uncle in business and was making enough money and even open account with two different bank but my aspiration was to go to school. after I wrote jamb and pass, my uncle who I was doing the business with began to advice me seriously to forget about school and make enough but I never listen and instead I thought he was just jealous although he is also a graduate but no job made him start the business which later benefit him. Fast forward to months later I got admission and spent almost all my money for school expenses and rent because my parents were poor and am even the first child of the family so I did all the admission expenses with my saving .then I return to square one with hunger in school just in the name of university education which I later regret. Am currently in 200 level but the funny thing is that I have lost all passion for school and don't even like going for lectures. The regret is still eating deep in me because with the way I see graduate living in peanut salary I ask myself what stupid enthusiasm even push me to school. please am thinking of dropping out of school now and to use this 100k which my aunty in London sent for me to continue in business and then later learn a skill in IT instead of wasting it to pay for school fee. Please I will need advice from you all.[/quote] |

Not everyone prospers in business. Know what works for you. In the midst of lamentations of lack of jobs. Some people did what actually was right by getting a skill while in school and still finished tops in school and are working and doing fine with the substinence of the acquired skills to there degree. Don't be in a haste. Dont lose out on both ends and return crying foul. You can learn a skill that brings a unique solution to your environment while schooling. There are jobs, just you need the experience and most organisation lack funds to plunder on trainings. Get a skill while schooling and even get a small evening or weekend job, equip yourself, phone repairs, computer repairs, tailoring, event management, printing, graphics and web design etc are a few skills to mention you can brush yourself up on or betterstill a professional certification. Good thing is you can still be a business man with your skills after school or it will boost your chances of securing a good job. Don't make a quick decision you might regret later. |
