I am not ibo but if per chance I fall in love with a fine osu chick, no force on earth can stop me from marrying her. What the hell is Osu? You mean in this day and age we can tolerate a caste system in our cultures? Rubbish! If the gods have 16 heads let them curse me make I see

First of, bringing my father into this discussion is uncalled 4. Some of u need 2do some growing up. Keep 2d discussion. If u have run out of things 2 say or u don't have answers to my question, simply say so.

Second, u are d one who says everything is wrong with marrying a person tagged OSU. Take responsibility 4 ur actions& ur words. If u can't handle d consequences of ur words, then there's no point talking. If u push responsibility away from urself to others, then it shows u still not very mature.

Thirdly, if u say there is a curse with marrying OSU, then u should b bold enough 2 give specifics as to what is wrong with marrying osu. What makes an osu a bad person?
u are very intelligent, i hate seeing people who dont like taking responsibility. Nd that fool forgot that no one has control of the family they are born into, what if he was born into one of those families nd someone start discriminating him for something even his grand pa knows notting about. Its very stupid to me. Just dis week a napoli black player was abused on pitch by inter fans because he is black. Now that was crazy but to see blacks discriminating fellow blacks is stupidity of the highest order. Nd they even call them selfs christians. Christ will be so shamed of them

grin Real Change?
The Osu caste system has defied so many changes including Christianity. Those rebels who will marry 'known' Osu will do well to be living their lives far from people who know about Osus.
Thank God where I come from, we don't have it.

Yes, real change. Since d traditional institutions with d influence of d govt are beginning to put aside this inhuman tradition aside, then it will b easier 4 people to interact with themselves without d OSU burden.

Imagine this hopeless skull digger talking of hate.

You should channel your frustrations to your people who are slugging it out on daily basis because of religion.

Yoruba Christians Vs Yoruba Muslims
Yoruba Traditionalist Vs Yoruba Muslims
Yoruba masquerades Vs Yoruba Moslems.
Skull mining nko ?

Where Ogun man will mine the skull of ekiti man and boast about it in the public and receive applauds from his likes.
If you guys continue with what you are known for, by next 20 to 25 yrs, you will be competing with Edos and Ijaws on 3rd largest ethnic groups in Nigeria.

I even forgot about Ife and Modakeke wey no dey take eyes see each other to the extent that they don't marry up till today
(Yoruba is Yoruba only exist on nairaland)

Skull digger is only what you are nagging at which is an act of evil by some Criminal Minds which Yorubas totally condemn and such persons will be jailed for perpetrated of such evil even before colonial era, during and post colonial period... It's does not institutionalized unlike Osu practice of Igbos with the fact that history proved that Yorbas had slaves and misbehaved indigens who were caught and punished while dukdoms and kingdoms still accommodated them without segregation.

On communal clashes which is history in southwest as that is bound to happen any where even one recently happened in the east due to issues of land where they killed them selves in Ebony State, you totally wrong on this as your region usually has such issues.

On religion, this is only part in Nigeria that clear and clean from the stains of religions crisis compares to others, Yorubas well matured on prevention of conflict that is why South West is the most hospitable and peaceful place in the whole Nigeria due to religion tolerance... Of course you know !

In conclusion, the syndrome of hatred in Igbos, Igbos and pigs could be traced to this Osu in their society which is babaric, unhearable and discrimination of the highest order in this 21st century, as their claims of being Christians is questionable because only pagans and polytheists could uphold such traditions even some of them can't do that. Yorubas far mature and had above all these inhumanity against humanity of your society.

Let's not prolong this argument.
First question, are you Igbo?
Second question, do they practice the Osu caste system from your part of Igbo land?
Thirdly, will you seek parental consent before marrying your spouse. If yes, will you allow your people to ask questions 'iju ase' before marrying?
We can continue this argument once you are able to provide the answers to the above.
A little story:
I once met an old school friend on a journey back to the east from Lagos. We got talking and he revealed to me that the reason for his journey is to convince his dad one last time to give his blessings to his intended marriage to his Osu girlfriend. I sympathized with him and asked him what he will do if his father refuses to give his blessings. He said he will simply go ahead and marry his girl in court and leave the country with her.
Already his father told him that he will cease being his son and will have no relationship with any family members if he tows that path. On the other hand his girls father withheld his own blessings stating that he will only bless their union if the guys father agrees to the union.
NB
I wish that the Osu caste system will end in Igbo land. But let's be realistic it may never happen in this generation or even the next.

If a 'freeborn' marries an 'osu', the freeborn automatically becomes an Osu. And him/her linage is automatically termed Osu.
That's why it's dreaded in Igbo land.

The stigmatizing is less when you are not Igbo. That's why the Osus prefer marrying outside Igbo land.

"the Hausa/fulani hate us" but you condemn your own calling them osu, the white are racist but you hate your own too... You are Christians and one of your Jesus's preaching is no condemnation of anyone in God's eye, you run to churches and worship but you still condemn your own. One igbo guy told me Osu is beyond the church and Christianity, that they are two different things... Even the pastors hardly talk about... All this are hypocrisy then we wish God to help you from your so called sorrows why you are not different from the so called enemies you accuse...

I agree with you to an extent. But your summation makes it sound as if these rebels are going to bring these changes in no distant time.
Of course nothing lasts forever, not even the Osu Caste System. But people should understand that what the Igbo chiefs did is just a first step that may take at least two more generations before the result can be seen.
