Wow! Did you put your passport number in the email you sent to them?

No I didn’t; they can just search with my name I guess

However, the risk with this options is that one might be faced with the challenges of renewing one's visa in the future.
Or deported straight from the airport

Unfortunately, having a medical visa is no guarantee, speaking from personal experience. I applied for a medical visa, presented the package I was going to use for the child birth purpose, I was given the medical visa, proceeded to use it, had a total medical bill of over $10k, paid ALL my bills, crossed all my T's and dotted all my I's. Traveled twice after initial child birth on same medical visa. Fast forward to time of renewal, I was invited in for an interview and denied a visa, was not pregnant, just trying to renew for holiday and shopping purposes.
I am not trying to be a Debbie downer here, just felt I should put this out there, so people are more prepared for the outcome of their interview and if possible plan early for other countries that give similar opportunities like the US.
It is obvious there is a vendetta against Nigeria. I am yet to see someone who falls under the bucket of child birth who has successfully renewed their visa in the last 6months.
P.S: If you are applying for a medical visa, take a package that shows at least 15k as the total bill and be able to show you can pay it, still not a guarantee as these people are currently VEXING. All the best guys.

Good you are putting this out though. I however wonder if this refusal of your visa renewal could be birthing related - at least from all you have written here - on a more serious note, I greatly doubt that. @Ninab if I remember quite clearly did renew hers lately. She did use HNMC I think too, that comes cheap compared to the 10k+ yours costed you and the 15k+ you are advising too.

Something else may have gone wrong with your renewal because you stood on all fours with the US authorities per birthing processes from what one can deduce from your post, kindly put out a transcript in that direction too, if you haven't previously sha, it may help others and even you when others take a look too. It can't be this bad just yet, hardly....

I think the best thing to do is not add passport number and use initials
because at POE some people get asked if they notified the embassy so what then do you do?

I've heard lately of people who paid ALL their bills and were trying to renew for visit purpose but got denied. This new banning policy is a norm for VO's not because of low bills or refusal to pay bills.

I think people will keep getting refused until we stopped bending the truth and face the reality

Correct.

Also, applicants who come to Nairaland only tells us one version of the story and why they think they were refused US visa but as we all already know that there is always two sides to every event or story and so far we're only reading one side and not the side of the visa officers.

She was asked for proof of payment for her previous delivery, hospital/doctor correspondence and bill for her intended delivery. The VO seemed satisfied with everything but said she should give them a week or two to investigate and make no travel plans till she hears from them.

My advise will be gather the relevant supporting documents with a sizeable budget and attend the interview as soon as possible. I wish you all the best...do keep us updated.

This is more like it;
I sent them an email this morning asking them the process of scheduling the next interview; cos I have been getting different advice and it’s getting confusing.
Hope is not too much to ask can you help me ask what they asked her during the interview session

In my opinion I think the refusal lately is deliberate. My husband was called for a 221g follow up interview in November 2017. The VO asked why he was in the US 3months, he told the VO he was there to support me while we were expecting our 2nd baby, No document was asked for and he was refused. We then agreed to wait for 6month so he could go again. After I saw afrobrown2000’s post about his wife’s visa interview, I encouraged my husband to try again and he got his visa after a 20mins vigorous interview session ( this was in February 2018) he registered his displeasure about the 221g interview and asked the VO if it was crime to give birth in the USA and she said it wasn’t, she then asked for the bills and other documents relating to his job/business... fast forward to my 221g interview in October, I was refused based on my itemized bill, the same bill my husband presented in February. The VO inferred that I must have benefited from some government aid because the discount I got was outrageous($9k)She mentioned she paid $21k when she had her child and that there is no where in America that the hospital bill will be cheaper than that. I Insisted I paid what the hospital quoted, showed her a corresponding email that indicated the price prior to delivery but she said the hospital did not know what they where doing. She asked me to explain why I was given so much discount, I told her because I paid upfront but she was not satisfied ......I was given the blue paper(continued In the next post)

The VO has done justice to this sort of question in page zero of this thread, if the purpose of which the visa was issued has changed then get another interview and go with all the evidence for child birth OR risk it at the POE and visa re-newer.

The change of intent letter has been abused for a very long time so i'm not surprised that it has come to this

After my 221g interview, I contacted the hospital via email and they responded immediately explaining the circumstances concerning my bill and sent a letter typed on their letter head
On December 19th 2018, I was at the Lagos embassy with the letter I got from the hospital explaining in details the reason for the discount on my bill, the VO was not ready to listen to me cause she felt her colleague already made a decision during my last interview which she agreed with stating that there can’t be any justification for the discount( she was pointing at her computer screen while saying this ) she told me how expensive it was to have a baby in the USA and there was no way the amount I paid was realistic. I told her the amount she was emphasizing on was just my hospital bill and that I paid my doctors fees separately amongst other bills but she wouldn’t listen, I pleaded with her to at least read the letter, she said the letter was not the bill and she wasn’t interested.. it wasn’t a funny session, I begged her again to accept the letter as that was the only reason I schedule another interview, she then asked me to read it to her, while I was reading, the VO cuts in and insisted I had no case. she came up with other stuffs like I didn’t inform the embassy I was pregnant when I got the visa, told her I wasn’t pregnant and asked her to do the math( she actually counted and realized I wasn’t pregnant)also told her I sent a letter of Notification of intent( not change of intent) after I retuned from my first trip to the USA (2014)before my birthing trip(2015)and declared my intention upon arrival in the USA, and I was sent for secondary inspection. Then I tried persuading her again to have the letter (at this point I was in tears) she then asked why my trip to the US was so important to me? I told her the trip wasn’t but I will be applying for a study visa at another country’s embassy and I will be asked about any refusal from other embassies which I can’t lie about, a continuous refusal from the US embassy might jeopardize my chances of getting my study visa seeing that have been to the US severally(6 times)in the past and also it might affect my UK visa renewal in the future, she asked for the letter and all my bills and said the embassy will get back to me after further investigation. She then mentioned that I might get the visa and I might not, I told her I understood and thanked her for collecting the letter...
Tracked my visa status 1st of January... I was refused!
Picked up my passport today with my wrapped in the blue refusal paper...
My next visit will probably next year, hopefully the itemized bill issues would have be resolved.
My first visa was in 2014 renewed in 2016 without any issues...
My last trip to the USA was in April 2018

I got mine approved last month-December 2018. ( I did not use Dropbox as I heard most people were being rejected ) Had my baby in 2015 , paid less than $8k and got itemized and detailed letter from the hospital ,OBGYN and ped separately stating I did not use taxpayers funds or insurance. And I stated that am going back to thesame place to birth my second baby. The VO said something like "I noticed you used your Nigeria address on your son's birth certificate , that is very good cos it was the right thing" so I don't know if that helped my case.

Hello all,
just want to share my transcript.i had my last baby in 2016 at Oakbend Medical with Dr E .I handed my envelop of bills to DH upon my return to keep in the safe. But Oga denied receiving them from me lolzzz. Finally got a date for 3rd January 2019 in Dec.Thereafter I started making calls to get my receipts and zero balance statements. I was able to get all bills vis email except DR E, my emails to her were not delivered, called her several times her new staff not Laurie (God bless that Lady) refused to help and demanded I pay 25dollars for missing receipts as she could see from their records that I collected my bills. I was going to make the payment over the phone but was told I am on a waitlist as there were so many people on the queue asking for same... I just thanked her and told her I was no longer interested as my interview is for tomorrow.

VO... what do you do (Turning to DH)
DH... I am a .... with ....

My personal opinion is that there is a concerted effort to reduce the number of visas issued....maybe because of the current adminstration's stance on immigration...I'm not sure it is targeted at Nigerians specifically...

The low/discounted hospital bills are a convenient way of weeding out applicants for some VOs...abi.... how else do you explain someone whose old visa was specifically for medical and it was approved on the basis of a low bill...now at renewal that same bill is seen as an issue. US address on the birth certificate or passport application is another avenue for other VOs to excuse rejections.

A lady mentioned here on NL some months ago...that having the US address on the birth certificate as the permanent address would be implied to mean the person was planning to claim benefits like medicare/aid..

Our love for "change of intent letter" hasn't helped either.

As with life in general there will be exceptions...peeps with low bills or US address on BC that still get their visas approved....

Anyway new mums..beware...at least you know what to expect and avoid. To old mums...all the best.

Please I need your advice guys.i did a Dropbox In February and got my visa in March 2018.prior to this time,I had my son in El Paso February 2016.my family decided to go on a trip this December but hubby couldn’t come along.need I also mention I’m pregnant.POE was Houston while destination was Dallas.i came in with my 2 kids age 2(3 in few weeks) and 5.i got to the officer and he asked to see my son who is the citizen, also saw him staring at my tummy but he didn’t say anything as I’m really not showing.
Officer:how long did u stay the last time you came
Me:4 months for birthing purpose and vacation
Officer:did u take any aid
Me:no I didn’t as I paid all my bills
Officer:can I see the receipts
Me:here it is “pulling it out of my bag”
He flips through and asked why I was in the states
Me:just a vacation for 2 weeks
Officer:your 4 right fingers pls and stamped us in till June 2019
My worry now is the change of intent isn’t working again and if I return to Nigeria there’s a 50% chance I might be allowed in.i have the intention of returning back to the states by March to have my baby.im really confused as some persons are saying you are in already, stay and have baby and cope for the 6 months you have been stamped in for.6 months is a long time for me really considering my kids school.some are saying why waste money to go back to Nigeria and return again by March cos the officer will ask why u r back again when u just left in January and we all know you can’t declare for birthing purpose.im a confused being right now really

From what I’ve observed from this thread, most renewals for medical visas have been rejected.

You told them you where there for 2 weeks stay 2 weeks and leave
When I had my baby in 2015 April I went November 2014 no one asked me again why I left and came back
I left the us in August renewed my visa
November and am in the United state again presently again 8days
If I decide to come in again next year for birthing wud declare and come in
Let’s stop causing problems for ourselves how can u even sit in the us for 6 months it only shows u don’t have a job and that would even raise eye brows
Please leave after 2 weeks and return March as u earlier planned except u are not been truthful

So y didn’t she declare ?
Cause she was asked and she said vacation so she wasn’t truthful and she doesn’t need that in this era

I disagree with u based on recent altitude of the usa embassy in nigeria toward child birth applicant for visa renewer..go and check the reason for recently refuser then you will know their is a hidden agenda to the whole birth things especially towards nigerians applicant!
