Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I am Olumide, a 200L medical student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, I intend that this should be a form of thread which I occasionally write about my experiences in Medical School, As we all know that it is not easy to go through Medical school, But by the grace of God, we shall be triumphant.
Shalom.

So, this thread is for anybody that would simply like to know what's up in the medical school
I study in the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Here, Medicine is a 6 years course in which the first year is a compulsory year for basic sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)in Ago Iwoye. It is however compulsory for you to scale above the minimum score which is 50% per course or else, the the person would be 'dropped' to another course which they feel seems lesser to Medicine. But no need to fear, scoring above 50 is not so hard for the basic science courses
The students who pass therefore move to Sagamu, which is the real deal. Sagamu houses the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences(Our Medical College) and Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. This Sagamu is known as the home of reading, Yunno, Medical students and hyperstuffs.
The Medical College doesn't run a similar calender to the normal school calender
After your resumption in 200L, you'll spend 18 months learning about three courses (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry) which I would talk about later, After this 18months, you'll be required to face the ALMIGHTY MB exam which you must pass (50%) in other to move to the next level. I'm tired rn, I'll update you guys later, let me know what you feel about this thread in the comments

Sorry for asking but the mb exam is it objective and theory or just objective and how many questions
Re: Medical School: The Journey by OlumhideGold: 9:38pm On Jan 05, 2019
Getting into Medical school, we all know is not an easy task, and surviving in the school might also be harder, Hence, we have to develop the right attitude, reading habit, Time management and balance in Medical school.
Medical school has a kind of way of disappointing most students as most of us were one of the best in our secondary school, but life happened and we got here where we have a lot of smart asses....like I mean really smart.
I believe Medicine ain't like Maths where you can be a genius and just answer questions without any prior knowledge, Bro, if you try am for here, you go 'jewa' o

We read here, Yes, even a lot, but then, we turn up once in a while as 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy's but Abeg, don't turn up too much o, except you are a bossssssssssssssssssss, and Medical school is a place even the bosses stumble.
If you stumble lasan, na either two things o
RESIT or REPEAT
One better pass another o
Guess which?

RESIT is the younger brother of repeat, If you fail in only one course, another exam is arranged for you within a short while, and if you pass, No lele, but if you fail, na wahala be that o
REPEAT occurs when you fail more than a course or you fail a resit, you'll now go and continue with your juniors
Note The fail I meant is not in the Incourses ( These are like tests we do at regular intervals, but in complexity, it's not test o, it's a SERIOUS exam), The fail I'm referring to in RESIT and REPEAT is in the Almighty MB exam.
I'll have to stop here tonight, Body dey ache,
Feel free to ask any question pertaining to Medicine or my post in the comment box.
Goodnight.

Lol
It consist of MCQ (MultiChoice Questions - A harder form of Objective questions in which you tick true or false for every option, which all the options could be correct, and if you miss anyone, Negative marking would be used)
Mad Theory
Viva
Practicals
In short, every form of thing you can use to test a student.

Thank you OP for such a wonderful platform. I just gained admission to study Medicine and Surgery in UNIJOS. I am currently a 200 level student of Biochemistry in one of the state universities.
I had been contemplating whether to switch over to MBBS or obtain the Biochemistry degree first. What is your take on this?

Secondly, please I'd like to know how expensive studying MBBS really is, in terms of the textbooks and all. Thanks mam

MB exam comprise of mcqs (multiple choice questions), practicals, and orals(viva).

It is a professional exam taken by medical students in year 3,5 and 6. Though some school take pre-professional exam in 200level. The number of questions depends on the school.
Grace will see us all through... In JESUS' Name!
