There were cup games across Europe in the past week while some leagues were also on breaks but league actions resume this weekend in Europe.

All Nigeria Soccer's Izuchukwu Okosi presents the matches involving Nigerian players not to be missed.

1. West Ham United vs Arsenal

The duo of Alex Iwobi and Bukayo Saka are most likely going to be dressed on Saturday by Arsenal at the London Stadium as Unai Emery's side visit West Ham United.

The game which kicks off at 1.30pm Nigerian time is a London derby and one that will be interesting to see as the fifth placed Gunners seek to overtake Chelsea in fourth place in the EPL table.

Iwobi has scored thrice for Arsenal in the Premier League so far and with Henrikh Mkhitaryan still out injured the Nigerian will most certainly be deployed on the left side of the Arsenal attack while Saka could come off the bench.

2. Villarreal vs Getafe

Arguably the most promising young Nigerian player in Europe at the moment, Samuel Chukwueze is expected to be in action on Saturday when Villarreal host Getafe.

Chukwueze's performances for the Yellow Submarine has attracted interests from some big clubs in Europe and all eyes will be on the Super Eagle, who has named in the top 50 most promising young footballers in European football.

Villarreal are currently placed 19th in the La Liga table while their visitors are 7th and a good show by the winger could lift his club out of the relegation zone. And what more, the January transfer window is still open.

3. Leicester vs Southampton

The hot debate since Tuesday's CAF Awards has been Wilfred Ndidi's shocking and surprising omission from CAF's Best XI for the calendar year 2018 in favour of Atletico Madrid and Ghana's Thomas Partey as well as not winning the Young Player of the Year won by Achraf Hakimi.

Ndidi would definitely must have heard the feedback back home and will be buoyed to prove his doubters wrong in this game against the Saints at 4pm Nigerian time.

The Super Eagles defensive midfielder has been one of the best tacklers in European football and he will surely be angling to prove his mettle when they play Southampton.

Kelechi Iheanacho has not been in fantastic form when given his chances so more more attention will be paid to Ndidi especially after he was shunned in both categories of awards.

4. Brighton vs Liverpool

It is unknown whether manager Chris Houghton will hand an opportunity to Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun when Brighton host Liverpool at the Amex Stadium but should the Nigerian get his chance to impress it is one that he must grab gleefully and make the most of.

Balogun played in successive games during the festive period when Shane Duffy was out due to a three game ban with mixed performances.

Injuries to key players seems to be the only hope the former Mainz centre back has to impress on Saturday.

5. Nice vs Bordeaux

Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu is expected to play a significant role for French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux when they play away to OG Nice 8pm Nigerian time on Saturday.

Kalu has scored twice in 13 league games for Bordeaux this season and his rather low goals return is due to injury which inadvertently saw him miss some games.

The talk of a possible return to the national team of Victor Moses could propel Kalu's improved performances for club and country.

6. Crystal Palace vs Watford

Selhurst Park will witness a good game in prospect as Crystal Palace welcome Watford that parades Super Eagles striker Isaac Success.

Success has a poor return of just one goal this season in the Premier League in 21 games and will be hoping to improve on that.

The match which kicks off 4pm Nigerian time is expected to be a physical battle between both sides which the former youth international will relish.

7. Atletico Madrid vs Levante

It is unclear whether Moses Simon will be in action on Sunday when 10th placed Levante visit the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to face second in the table Atletico Madrid.

Back to fitness, Simon has played just five league games thus far mainly from the bench with a grand total of 61 minutes played only.

The Nigerian winger missed the 2018 World Cup due to injury and as the preparations for the 2019 AFCON continue with the upcoming dead rubber against Seychelles and top friendly with Egypt in March, 'Daddy' will be out to impress.

The ‎fine end to the first stanza of the league Hilary Gong had at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem has been halted by a knee injury picked up in December as the club gear up for the resumption of the league in Holland.

20 year old Hong sustained the injury in December in a Cup match against Kozakken Boys another set back after the injury which kept him out for a long time and restricted him to few games, no thanks to the several relapse he suffered.

Since his move to the club in the summer from AS. Trencin, Gong who is the most expensive player signed by the club during last transfer window has played eight games this season in all competitions.

Rated among the fastest players in the league, he showed what he is all about with a strong run to set up the assist for Oussama Darfalou in the win against VVV-Venlo before the league went on break.

Unable to train with the rest of the squad in their winter camp in Portugal, and that has seen him miss test games against German side VFL Wolfsburg and Scottish outfit Livingstone FC‎ although he is expected to be fit before the league resumes.

I watched both matches and you're right they were exciting but that was because of what was at stake and them being on the edge both times but let's be honest they could barely keep the ball on the ground in those matches, there were no quick interchange of passes and most importantly the quality of their oppositions can't be compared to the sundowns. The quality on ground was much better. Lobi looked like a team that could beat any team in the continent at the moment. Remember that they did this without their best player in Sikiru Alimi.

BTW I hope you saw Sunday Adetunji balling today? He is finally getting back to his old form again

Lol....you 've started again...

It is very obvious that Nigerian clubs play better on good pitches. That Enugu pitch is artificial but it has a good playing surface. And again watching the game on Super Sports makes the game more watchable.

The NPFL should barbish teams that don't have good TV friendly Venues to nearby stadiums that can provide that.

On Lobi I will like to see how they cope with away games. This has been the problem of all Nigerian clubs. Terrible away form.

And on Sunday Adetunji looks more like he played more from the flanks yesterday. He looks same same to me grin

John Lazarus. I was really excited seeing him yesterday. He should be 19 now. I would recommend him to Paul Aigbogun's U20. This may give him more opportunity for exposure to foreign scouts.

Na so o. Even that era when Enyimba won CAF champions league back to back they didn't win a single game in North Africa. They lost 6-1 to Ismaili in the group stage of the 2003 edition beat them 4-2 in the reverse fixture. And in the final won 2-0 in Aba before losing 1-0 at Ismail.
In 2004 semis they drew 0-0 and 1-1 against Esparance, qualified on away goals rule and in the final lost 1-2 away to Etoile Du Sahel before beating them 2-1 in Abuja and won via penalties.

Enyimba never beat any North African team away sad

Catalan side eye loan move for Changchun Yatai attacker
Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo could be set for a shock move to Barcelona, according to Sport.
The Catalan side want to bring in a new attacker on a short-term deal to enhance their front line in the second half of the season.
Many targets have emerged, but Ighalo sticks out because of his exploits at Watford and experience in La Liga with Granada.
He only joined Changchun Yatai in 2017, but Ighalo is ready to return to Europe and has offers from the Premier League, but Barca could swoop in with a loan offer.

Iorfa has always been a championship player. There is no basis for comparison. Don’t come with that your championship is better than Bundesliga talk again

Firstly, you have moved away from the subject matter. Which was the current form of Dominic Iorfa. i gave you a number of examples to debunk the issue of form.

Is it not remarkable that a Championship teenager was called to train with the England senior team. Back to my never ending proposition, "Better to be a Lion in a lower league and club than a mouse in higher league,"

Some players choose a lower league and some players have no choice it is not definitive of quality.

You made another assertion that Dominic has always been a Championship player ,I would say he chose in his misplaced loyalty to Wolves after several EPL clubs had made formal bids. However, that is the past.

Nonetheless, your assertion is wrong because he is on the list of players registered by Wolves as part of their squad so he s a EPL player not Championship. It is possible he can still play for Wolves any suspensions and injuries and they will eat their pride and call him back.

The issue of superiority of the Bundesliga is a never ending debate and that is not the issue , the issue is player competency and ability, is the question. None of these three German Nigerian players have played as many games as him, some not even half.

Is your conclusion based on the fact they play in the Bundesliga that is not the basis to determine over all quality, that is being superficial.

Gavin Bazunu is set to join up with Manchester City this month.

The 16-year-old product of the Shamrock Rovers academy has been signed by the Premier League champions in a €500,000 deal and it was initially expected that he would stay with the Hoops until June while completing his studies at home.

However, it's highly likely that Bazunu - who sprung to prominence when promoted to the first team squad by Stephen Bradley last year - has played his last game for the Hoops, says the Irish Independent.

Negotiations are advanced with a view to ensuring that he moves to England in the coming weeks and joins the City development structure although all talks are based around ensuring he continues with his Leaving Cert preparations.

In my opinion not a good move if he is truly talented, very short term approach to development.

Barcelona have decided to sign a No 9 in the winter window to cover for the departures of Munir El Haddadi and Denis Suarez. The club want a low-cost option to complete the squad.

One option is Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo, who played in the Premier League with Watford.

He has many offers to return there after going to China, where he has been for two years with Changchun Yatai.

Barcelona are looking at five or six names more, hoping to loan a player like for the Jeison Murillo deal.

They want a player who gets into space well and is a good finisher. Alvaro Morata is one option, Ighalo another.

Ighalo’s side in China have been relegated to the second division and he wants to come back to European football. He has three offers from the Premier League, but Barca is an attractive option.

Barca scouts know Ighalo well as he was at Granada. He scored 12 and 15 goals in his two season with Watford, who sold him to China for 25m.

Ighalo played at the World Cup with Nigeria. He’s fast, has a good shot and moves well in the box.

Barca want a player who can let Luis Suarez rest when needed.

Planning is going well for next season, with the signing of Todibo, and probables of De Jong and Rabiot. The priority is to find a forward who can compete up front.

The striker who comes now will only be for six months and stay only if his performance is exceptional. If not a new forward will be found in the summer.
