Tradition continues..
'so like this now, I'll soon become someone else's wife' Chinny said 'life.. how unfair it can be sometimes'

Benita smiled sadly 'I still can't believe it.. I just can't.. it's like a dream'

'nothing truly lasts forever Benny.. in as much as this wasn't the kind of life I wanted to live, that's the loveless and sexless marriage and all, Dike still provided for us.. he took good care of my family. I was comfortable and ne'er lacked.. in as much as I wanted to leave here so bad.. I still can't believe everything is changing so fast. I never really liked Dike because of how he treated us, but didn't they say the devil you know is better than the Angel u don't? I can't imagine being someone else's crown princess in few days.. it's just too sudden'

Adanna noticed for the first time that Chinny was actually having a self reflection. she had never seen Chinny this sad and down before. This is new.

'I'll miss him.. I'll miss this' Flora said. she had been weeping from the palace till they got home.

'as funny and unbelievable as it may sound, i, Chinny will also miss him. Gawd!! I can't believe this. I actually fell in love with Dike without realising' She slapped her forehead.

'are you kidding me?' Adanna asked. Had it been on a different circumstance, Chinny's confession would have shocked everyone.
'you're in love with Dike?'

Chinny shrugged and wiped this stubborn tear that fell off her eyes 'what's bad in falling in love with one's husband?'

'anyone would have fallen in love with Dike. but I never thought you would too. ne'er thought you'd harbour feelings for the man you seem to detest this much' Adanna said.

'I'm a human being Ada. in as much as I try to act macho sometimes, I am a woman with feelings. I'm surprised myself. how and why did I fall in love with Dike? when did it even start?'

'or maybe you're just too used to him' Edna said.

'I dunno.. but I just don't feel too good. I actually want to cry right now... but this is not me. I don't cry. Chinny doesn't cry' And even as she spoke, few teardrops fell. it was that bad.

Dora sobbed at one corner. somehow she knew Dike wouldn't pick her. Even if he was to pick someone, that would definitely be Shiv. but then again, Dike was a man full of surprises, he just might end up not picking anyone later.
Same way she had been confident few months ago that he was in love with her. She was so sure that if something like this had happened earlier, he would have picked her. but things had taken a different turn.
She loved him. it was an open secret that she did. She loved him to the extent she felt her heart was at bursting point.
No. she didn't want anyone who wasn't Dike. it was him she was used to and comfortable with.

Unconsciously she placed both hands on her head, how would she cope?

Adanna however as pained as she was, was indifferent about the whole situation. She knew she was never getting picked by Dike, not even in her wildest dreams. But there was something she was sure of, she was leaving.
She was leaving to start something meaningful with her life. she wasn't going to be handed over like some piece of property to the highest bidder. she had a brighter future ahead of her and she was still young. she needed a man to call her own. She needed her family of her own. She didn't care about the royalty anymore. She wanted out.

Benita thought hard. where was she going to start from? Her parents were late and she was an only child with little or no friends at all. Where was she going to start from? she knew without being told that Dike wasn't going to pick her. Deep down she knew she was sick of everything happening around her. but she couldn't opt out. she had nowhere to go. So she made her choice. She was going to move on to the next crown Prince of Umuzulu. it was going to be tough at first. but she had little or no choice at all. Life doesn't always give us what we desire.

Edna was sad. She was already used to this. Going to a completely different family felt like starting afresh. And she didn't know how she was going to cope. She wasn't sure she wanted to go into the household of the so called next crowned Prince of Umuzulu. It wasn't as if she loved Dike and all but she felt this loyalty towards him. He was the one she was used to calling her husband. He wasn't a very nice person. but he made sure everyone was comfortable and living healthy. She was leaving. She was done.

Flora wept like a baby. she had feelings for her husband. And leaving felt like something suicidal. she wondered how the next crowned Prince was going to be. And she wondered how she was going to cope. But she couldn't dare opt out. Her father would disown her. she couldn't disappoint him for she happened to be their only means of survival.. so she was staying. As painful as it may sound.

Shiv on her part wasn't thinking. she was completely weighed down by everything that has happened. everything centered majorly around her family. And it affected her a great deal. Her mum, her sister, her niece, and herself just needed the grace of God to pull through..
