Lara’s lips came on the hunt again. I turned the position, so she was now lying on her back. My hands went for her boobs. Not getting enough, I removed her t-shirt. I stared at her nude chest. The boobs were bigger than I had imagined – bigger than Steph’s and Enny’s own combined.

They were big, yet quite firm. I found them admirable.

She guided my mouth to the large nipples. I played with them for some time and stopped.

‘Don’t stop,’ she muttered and goaded me on. After some moments, I stopped again.

‘If I must continue, I don’t want the mistake I made with Steph to repeat itself,’ I said.

‘It won’t repeat itself, Alex. I can assure you of that.’

She smiled. ‘I got all things worked out,’ she replied. She stood up and opened her wardrobe where she brought out a pack of the latex rubber.

‘I got this ready for you before you came today.’

‘Are you sleeping already?’ I asked her.

‘Hmn, about to.’

I stroked her back and she gave a pleasant moan. We had had enough for one night, I decided and stopped the act. I closed my eyes too. I
soon fell asleep.



I was in my office when Steph barged the door open and stepped inside.

‘How dare you, Alex? How dare you do this to me?’

‘Keep your voice down!’ I chided. ‘What’re you talking about? Do what to you?’

‘You know what I’m talking about! How dare you, Alex?’

‘How dare what? You better tell me exactly what you mean.’

‘How dare you sleep with another woman, Alex? How dare you?’

I was surprised she could say that, but I feigned ignorance. ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about, Steph.’

She banged on my table angrily. ‘You slept with that Lara lady! How dare you?’

I got angry with her yelling. ‘Stop shouting at me,’ I fired back. ‘You don’t own me and I don’t own you!’

‘Point of correction. I own you. I’m yours and you’re mine. Do not take the fact that I tolerate your relationship with Enny for granted. I only
allow Enny because I feel sorry for her. Don’t try any other intimate relationship with any other lady. I won’t take that!’

‘It’s none of your business who I have intimate relationship with. Get that into your head.’

‘This will be a warning. Stop any further relationship with Lara! Stop sleeping with her! Stop it, or be prepared for the tragedy that will come
your way!’

‘No tragedy will come my way. Go and sit down!’





I woke up, breathing hard. I looked around the room, then remembered that I had slept in Lara’s room. What a dream! It had looked so real, I could have sworn that Steph had really given me those warnings. But then, it was just a dream. I ignored it and went back to sleep.

I woke up, breathing hard. I looked around the room, then remembered that I had slept in Lara’s room. What a dream! It had looked so real, I could have sworn that Steph had really given me those warnings. But then, it was just a dream. I ignored it and went back to sleep.

I woke up Sunday morning about 5.30 a.m. I was used to waking up about that time. I went to the adjoining toilet to ease myself. Lara slept on, the bed cover covering her up. I stared at her, and felt some guilt. How could I do what I did? How could I sleep with her?

Another voice calmed me down. No one should blame me, the voice said. It was Enny’s fault. She should never have abandoned her husband the way she did. Then, I remembered the dream. I shrugged it off. Just like I told Steph in the dream, she didn’t have the right over whom I dated or who I slept with. She too could do whatever she wanted with her life in the U. S.A.

I sighed and climbed back into bed. My movement aroused Lara.

‘Good morning, darling,’ she mumbled.

‘Good morning, Love.’

‘How was the night?’

‘Fantastic,’ I said, although I was not exactly sure it was.

‘Did we really make love or was I dreaming?’ she asked.

‘You were not dreaming,’ I answered.

‘Oh God!’ she snuggled to me and I wrapped my hands around her.

‘I feel so happy,’ she said.

‘Wow!’

‘I can see why Steph will not let you go, now.’

I raised an eyebrow. ‘What can you see?’

‘You’re a wonderful lover, Alex.’

‘I don’t think so. If that’s true, why did Enny leave me?’

‘Oh, poor Enny. She’s probably too disappointed.’

‘And you, are you not disappointed? You said if I could keep to the creed of ‘no sex’, then you’ll consider me as great. I failed in that. Now, I
suppose I’m a flop.’

‘No, please don’t say that. You’re great, Alex.’

I shook my head. I didn’t see myself near anything great. I knew this latest gamble would bring nothing but trouble for me. We slept off again
and finally woke up around seven a.m.

Lara opened her eyes. ‘It’s day time,’ she said.

‘Yes. It’s going to be a bright day.’

‘Yes. And a day of love.’

We made love again, until I became exhausted. Even when Lara said I should not bother about the latex protection; that she would use pills, I
insisted on using it. That was my reassurance that I would not have another Steph situation on my hand.

About noon, I returned to my apartment. I changed clothes and sat in the sitting-room. Then I remembered my phone had been switched off
since the previous evening. I switched it on and charged it.

About half an hour later, the phone rang. To my pleasant surprise, it was Enny that was calling.

‘Oh, darling, Enny, are you on your way home?’ I asked.

‘No,’ she replied shortly.

‘And when are you coming back? When are you coming back home, Enny? Don’t you miss your husband at all?’

‘You’re not really ready to receive me,’ she said.

‘But, of course, I am,’ I cried. ‘I’m ready to receive you, Enny darling.’

‘Are you sure really miss me?’

‘Of course, Eniola baby. I terribly miss you.’

‘Okay, will you tell truth if I ask you this question?’

‘I promise that I will always tell you the truth, darling.’

‘Okay. Where were you last night?’

The question came as a shock. ‘Excuse me?’

The question came as a shock. ‘Excuse me?’

‘I asked, where were you last night?’

‘But.. why do you ask such a question, dear?’

My brain raced frantically. Why did she ask? Did she suspect a thing? What should I tell her?’

‘Alex, are you still there?’

She had cut the line. She must have switched off immediately, for as much as I tried to reach her again, I could not. The service provider kept
saying the line was switched off.

I could not believe the turn of events. Just when I thought Enny would be coming back home! But wait a minute. What prompted her to ask that
question? What or who informed her that I did not sleep at home? Why was she quick to say I was with another lady? How could she tell?
I hoped Enny too was not a witch. Until I knew what made her to ask that question, I would consider her as having witchcraft. Then I stopped
short. Maybe it was her mother. That woman must be a witch and it was most likely she was the one who told Enny about my movement. Oh
God, oh God!

I would still have to call her again. I would have to tell her that I only went to the club to keep boredom away. She should not just expect that I
would lock myself up in the house and be brooding, should she? After all, she was the cause. If she had come back to me, Lara would not have
been able to permeate.

I started pacing around in the sitting-room, thinking of the next thing to do. My doorbell rang. It was Juliet that was there.

‘Good afternoon, uncle,’ she curtsied.

‘Good afternoon, Juliet. How’re you?’

‘Fine. Where did you go last night?’

I was surprised my absence in the house for just one night had become a subject in the public domain. ‘What happened?’ I parried.

‘Sister Enny was here. She waited long for you to come.’

‘Oh my God! No wonder.’

‘She even tried your numbers but none was going.’

That must be when Lara switched off my phone.

‘But she has her own keys,’ I blurted out. ‘She ought to have used her keys to enter the flat.’

‘She said she misplaced them,’ Juliet explained.

‘I see.’

‘So, after waiting till ten p.m., she left.’

I shook my head. ‘Thanks for the information, Juliet.’

‘You’re welcome.’ She left.

This must be the work of the devil, I reasoned. All these while that I was home alone, all alone, Enny did not bother to come. I had been
praying and longing for her coming, she did not. But just one night that I decided to cool the tension in me, that was the night she chose to
