Summertime sucks. I hate it. I hate being hot. But you are own with living in Alaska. What are you going to up there. You and the other 2 black people.
Although I did meet one black person living in Alaska, she said it wasn't that bad. She said it wasn't alot of daylight there, and well its cold.

I Dont still get what people like about winter. You can't dress as you wish, you must cover up from head to toe, you on heater all round the clock which increases your electricity bill, you can't go for a walk comfortably , swimming is a no no, you can't have an occasion cos people barely show up, absolutely no fun in winter time. So what exactly do you like about the winter.

I was heading for an interview in Chicago I decided to drive a day before the interview , I got to Missouri lo and behold I was welcomed with correct thick snow, cars were sliding , I couldn't hold my breaks I jejely made an exit to an unknown location, saw a motel 6 and managed to get there.

Interview was on a Friday I was stuck in d hotel till Monday with red necks. It was a crazy experience..

My theory about winter is that I can always put on layers of clothes but it isnt so easy to take layers off, well if I want to be decent antway. I do not like being in a rotisserie oven for no reason.
Crime goes up exponentially in the summer, increased AC Bill's, increased gas oil Bill's, etc.

You are right tho in that it sucks to try to plan an event bc of the weather. My and my siblings birthdays are in the winter months and lets just say we dont really celebrate.

There are plenty of things to do in the winter. Ice skating, sledding. Drinking hot cocoa and chillin. Baking sweets. And other indoor activities like movies, bowling, arcade stuff. Chrustmas and New Years are both in the winter.

Now about this Motel 6 stay, I sincerely hope you didnt come home with a new friend (bed bugs) . They are nasty creatures and if you get an infestation they can cost thousands to get rid of. Bed bugs are the new epidemic and its bad out there. They are at the really nice hotels, movie theaters, doctor offices etc. In fact I will upload an article about this.

Bed bugs disappeared for 40 years, now they're back with a vengeance. Here's what to know
SEAN ROSSMAN | USA TODAY
2:32 p.m. EDT June 21, 2017

Most Americans fear bed bugs but can't spot one
Our biggest fears can have our minds racing with scary images of bed bugs, but could you spot one? Angeli Kakade (@angelikakade) has the story.
BUZZ60
They're small, blood-sucking parasites perhaps living in the corners and crevices of our beds, feeding off us while we sleep.

Bed bugs, for decades, existed as myths, part of a rhyme our parents told us before bed. Now they've made an unwelcome return and those who know the buggers best say it's high time we start taking them seriously.

Recently fed adult bed bugs and just-hatched baby bed bugs. The white morsels are eggs.
M.F. POTTER
After all, getting a bed bug infestation "is a bit of a crap shoot," conceded University of Kentucky entomologist Michael Potter, meaning all of us are at risk.

Bed bugs used to be "incredibly common" in the early 20th century, Potter said. Back then, people routinely checked for them and carried insecticide while traveling.

Read more: Bedbugs kill woman, caretaker faces charges

Read more: Frustrated Maine man tosses bed bugs on city employee

But the introduction of potent insecticides killed most of our bed bugs, banishing them from our homes and consciousnesses. The bugs, Potter said, disappeared from about the mid-1950s to the late 1990s. They became so rare people could no longer identify them and a new generation of pest control professionals weren't equipped to fight them, noted University of Florida research scientist Roberto Pereira.

But then they came "roaring back in the last five to seven years," Potter said, creeping into our couches, our apartments and even into the hotel rooms of our NBA stars. The reason why is a mystery, although Pereira and Potter suggest it's because the once potent insecticide is now banned, people travel more and the bugs have grown resistant to modern insecticides.

Now we're left avoiding them. But there are ways. Here's what you need to know:

They're small and flat
If you've never seen one, bed bugs are small, flat, reddish-brown bugs about the size of Abraham Lincoln's head on a penny.

They have an oblong shell and a tiny head. They typically live in areas where people sleep because at night they feed on our blood.

Unlike ticks or fleas, bed bugs don't latch on when they feed. They bite then scurry away to digest. "It's a creepy parasite," described Potter. "It's a little bit like Dracula."

They live off our blood
Bed bugs have to feed on human blood about once a week, Potter said. However, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims they can live several months without a "blood meal."

Potter said bed bugs will adapt to your schedule. For instance, if you work the overnight shift, they'll learn to feed on you during the day.

They huddle on your mattress
The black spotting on this blanket are fecal marks left by bed bugs. Such spotting is a tell-tale sign of a bed-bug infestation.
M.F. POTTER
Bed bugs don't form colonies or nest, but they do aggregate, usually within about eight feet of where a person sleeps.

It's popular to find clusters of them on beds and recliners. Very skittish, bed bugs don't like movement, which is why they feed on us while we sleep.

Popular places for them to congregate are in the seams of mattresses, in bed frames, headboards, dressers and behind wallpaper or clutter. A bed bug, notes the CDC, can travel more than 100 feet in a single night.

A third of us get bit, but don't notice
Bed bug bites look like raised welts and can cause serious allergic reactions in some people.

But a third of people don't experience any reaction. This only helps the infestation spread because people don't know they have the bugs.

Cleanliness has nothing to do with it
Bed bug fecal spots on a bed.
M.F. POTTER
The stigma that a filthy home is more at risk of getting bed bugs just isn't true, Potter claims.

Unlike cockroaches, rats or flies, who feed on filth, bed bugs feed on blood. They only need a body. Bed bugs, the CDC said, have been found in five-star hotels and resorts.

So, where do they live?
Bed bugs are most often found in major metropolitan areas. However, over time, the pests have found their way to rural areas.

Anywhere there are close quarters, Potter said, the odds are better. It's a numbers game, he said, because the more people coming and going from a building increases the odds the bugs will find their way there.

Low-income housing also is a target because many people use old bedding and building staff may not take the steps to address the problem.

They don't carry disease

Bed bugs do not carry disease. At most, they're annoyances which cause itching and a lack of sleep.

How do we avoid them?
Experts say people bring an infestation into a home after they've gone to a place with bed bugs and somehow brought them back to their house.

This can happen just about anywhere: At hotels, while riding busses and trains, vacationing on cruise ships and bunking in dorm rooms. They attach to stuff, Potter said, not people. He's seen them on the bottoms of shoes, baseball caps and even Beanie Babies.

But it's unlikely you'll get them from places where people don't sleep. The places where people get some shut-eye are most at risk.

Potter advises people check around hotel beds when first checking in. Pull back the sheets, check the seam and corners of the mattress near the pillows and the headboard. Look for black spots, the bugs themselves or yellowish skins that bed bugs shed.

Try not to spread out in your hotel room. Don't place your open suitcase against a wall. Try to keep it closed and set it on a hard surface. Don't spread clothes across the hotel room.

Potter said each of us needs to strike a balance as to how paranoid we'll be in avoiding bed bugs.

"You got to be careful because you take all the joy out life," he said. "People just have to decide how apprehensive do they want to be."

You are really a prophet shocked I killed one big bed bug crawling on the sheets i couldn't believe my eyes.. I could not sleep on the bed I had to sit on the couch cos I was so irritated. I was only on my boxers all through that weekend with the heater on. It was just unfortunate I had no where to go.

Talking about winter and summer we all it for a balanced lifestyle. Without winter you cannot go for ice skating without summer we can't chill in d beach the list goes on and on lets just appreciate their presence.

For the Chicago job I gladly turned it down yesterday, I Dont seem to fit into the Chicago hustle and buzzle , the town is so choked up, careless drivers everywhere and also he cold. It was a nice experience thus far though.

If you can learn how to program, of course you can get a good job without any certification. If you want to go to the network or security side of IT, then you will need some certifications (CompTIA A+, Net+, Sec+ etc) and experience as well to get a good IT job. That's a long way to go.

Well, it depends on which part of US you're talking about. Some places in Arizona, for example, enjoy year-round warm sunshine and can get sweltering hot (upwards of 40C) during the summer. If you live in say Minneapolis, Minnesota, well then I guess you're gonna freeze a lot.

But I doubt weather conditions alone is enough to conclude living in Nigeria is better. I live up north in Canada, which is much colder than most part of US and I'm doing fine here.

The US has different climates based on the region. Also the US has different seasons which usually last a couple months at a time. There is winter, which happens between dec-Feb. Spring- march-may. Summer- june-aug fall- sept- nov. The northern part of the country is typically colder overall than the south and west coast which is usually milder in climate.

So presently I am in Missouri for a project, I have traveled 70% of the entire state but I noticed something about black and white environment. I was in an all white region around Hannibal , kingdom city, I went to do some shopping at Walmart and its was pure white folks , everyone minding their business a serene environment , clean and no hassles.

I traveled to another region I didn't know it was mostly a black region , when I got to the Walmart at that location it was chaos , loud mouth, weirdos, thugs, heavily armed police on the scene etc. I began to think personally that there is a big gap betweeen black and white in all ramification of life.

I have been pondering seriously over this. Is as if there is a conspiracy over the black race. Hardly do you see a black inventor or tech entrepreneur but rather, they are known to be sportsmen/sportswomen, musicians, dancers or basketballers. Is it actually the environment that has so much influence on the blacks or the wrong mindsets. I'm hopeful that one day there will be black tech entrepreneurs in silicon valleys, if a black man could be a president then certainly the black race can achieve anything.

Yes, we will achieve many things.

I ponder about the same things also. Although having never stepped out of the country, it seems like the white dominant states are quite richer than the blacks.

In as much as I don't want to believe anything is a curse, I don't know if it's a mentality issue. I have the believe that if a white person can do something, then why can't I? Some Black's are doing quite well in Silicon Valley and other booming places but they're quite few.

Got any idea why that is the case, where we don't really have much Black's thriving?

Am I the only one who have seen that most black kids do not aspire to be nothing more than a rap artist or a sport player?
I always talk to these little kids when I have the chance and I am hurt by their goals which are very modest. The change has to start from the parents and family in changing the mindset of the next black generation in the US.

It is the environment that controls the mindset, if you are in an environment filled with negativity your mindset will be attune to it, and vice versa.. One of the problems i have noticed in the black community is a "GENERATIONAL MINDSET" due to their environment (sphere of contact) which has grown to be a culture for them, it is passed on from generation to generation. They look down on themselves and blame Racism/white supremacy for their misfortune. More so most of them dont have a Father figure in their lives, most grew up with a single mother, and their Daughters also do same having children with no father which is hard for this young kids to think out of the box cos their environment does not encourage analytical thinking.

I remember when the movie BLACK PANTHER was released, a friend of mine (black american) told me the movies was too scientific for the black mind cheesy

Curious to know how ER nurses deal with these homeless dude who have lice and bedbug infestation on their clothing.

Well, it's not a homeless thing. We are seeing in my clinic middle class people coming in for treatment for this.
I can't speak for the hospital, but we use gloves, handwashing, and rigorous disinfecting. That's really all we can do.

Am I the only one who have seen that most black kids do not aspire to be nothing more than a rap artist or a sport player?
I always talk to these little kids when I have the chance and I am hurt by their goals which are very modest. The change has to start from the parents and family in changing the mindset of the next black generation in the US.

I dont know why my people think the only way out is sports and music. I've been saying for awhile that the entertainment business is a trap. But I think the tide is slowly turning, especially now that high schoolers are posting college acceptance letter openings. There have been quite a few Black American kids posting videos of them getting accepted to Ivy League universities which is really cool to see. One kid got accepted to about 5 of the major ones, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc..

I wonder why many blacks don't hesitate to protest against white police shooting black men but won't think smart to challenge the status quo by innovating new technological ideas just like the Indians and Chinese.
