BullBearMkt:
Will NSE Index behave like Diamond Stock?
After forcing many shareholders to sell their holdings in panic, Diamond stock rallied from a low at 0.66 to a high at 2.39 within a space of 2 weeks. This happened after Diamond broke a long time support located at 1.08. As that was not enough, it later created a lower low signalling that all may not be well with the stock. But all of a sudden, gbam! we saw a rejection candle, a higher - high and and and over 200% increase.

Just looking at the NSE index, I noticed it just broke a long term support; fell a bit and for the past 7 trading days, it's been bull upon bull. Now, I am wondering, could this be Diamond in the making? If yes, then I need the index to create a "high" or break exiting swing high at around 32000 and then we could have Diamond bank behaviour in the making . If I didn't see these features, then, I want to stay aside...

PLAN YOUR TRADES AND TRADE YOUR PLANS
grin grin grin grin grin
Should we still look forward to this kind of behavior next week? wink

Since it is been rotated, it could be a northern person. My mind goes to Sarah Alade or the female ED from Diamond who replaced her. That's another angle.

@ currentprice, I bought at January bonanza offer, and will still buy by February bonanza offer. For those that miss January offer, they should not panic, because February bonanza offer is on the way, the current bull is preparing ground for the main February bonanza. For jijo group remember to turn your profit into hard copy, to avoid paper/soft copy profit profit. cool cool shocked grin

By Lead Capital Research,

As developments unfold towards completion of the proposed merger between Access Bank and Diamond Bank Plc, we have cause to review our assumptions for valuation of the combined entity. There was an investor conference call, updating investors on the developments.

Key take away from the presentation was the N150.3 billion estimated synergies to be realized over three years, following complete integration of the lenders. The Bank has also cancelled plans for the proposed equity rights issue of 72 billion naira, which may have had a dilutive effect to shareholders.

Using very conservative assumptions, we estimate net profit to print at N125 billion in 2020 – a full year after integration – consisting contributions of N80 billion, N20 billion and N25 billion from Access, Diamond and synergies respectively. This arrives at an EPS of N3.72, 34.3% higher than 2018 best consensus estimate of N2.78.

As with most mergers, we took a realistic view and cut Access Bank synergy assumption by half, to arrive at our estimates. Using relative valuation, considering the median P/E ratio of Tier 1 banks at 3.80x, and the forecasted EPS of N3.73, we arrive at a fair value estimate of N14.17 for the new Access Bank. With these consideration, the lender presents a whopping 114.7% upside potential. That said, we hold a STRONG BUY recommendation for Access Bank Plc.

We also recommend a BUY for Diamond Bank whose shareholders stand to benefit from the increased valuation. We recall that Diamond Bank shareholders would receive a cash consideration of N1 per share and 2 shares of Access Bank for every 7 of Diamond owned.

WAITING FOR ELECTION TO BUY - Does it worth the waiting?
I have tried to study the NSE ASI price movement just before and after presidential elections in Nigeria and its effect on the market generally. But due to lack of data even from NSE (this is terrible!), I cannot really come to a conclusion.

Available data only covers the last 3 presidential election from 2007.

-2007: Before election, market was bubbling and this is the period NSE witnessed great patronage both from crooks and saints alike. So market continue the euphoria during and after the elections. Good to note is that the incumbent party (PDP) just transfer power to the same party. Similarly, the power to be then nominee won the election. So the atmosphere was good for the market.

-2011: The election took place in April, but before then the world witnessed financial crash and many countries were just getting out of this including Nigeria. However, after the election, since the incumbent party (PDP) won the election, market embrassed the news, rallied for 1 month and immediately the president was sworn-in in May, market started falling till the end of that year...

-2015: From the beginning of the year, market was dipping due to uncertainties surrounding whether there will be election or not until American & British governments shown their anger; that was when Nigerian govt announced that presidential election will take place in March. Market loved the news & immediately a dipping market suddenly changed direction and created a pin-bar. Election came & gone with the incumbent president conceded defeat - market loved this and we witnessed market rally. Before the president was sworn-in, market became jittery and market started another fall till late 2016.

I tried to make any summary out these 3 scenarios but data is too small, however, a common factor are:
-Market rallies in the election month
-Market dips after president sworn-in and lasted for at least throughout that year

With the elections now coming in February, what do we expect huh

Nice one. However, there are many factors at play so difficult to distinguish the main contributing factors.

For example, the 2015 issue has more to do with the shock in the economy than election fever itself. A situation were oil price crashed and the reserve was falling at an alarming rate. Even if there is no election, the outcome I believe would have been the same.

In 2018, I doubt that election again is the main issue. I think it has more to do with what is going on external to Nigeria. Most emerging markets are either devaluing their currency or watching the markets take a beating. RSA is in recession! Even Asia companies are not left out. Most emerging market funds have lost like 10% in the last 6 months.

The political risks associated with election is understood and most times exaggerated.
Perhaps the foreign guys are waiting on the sidelines for this, since oil price is not that stable. Global trade tensions plus Brexit dey there sef.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by BullBearMkt(m): 3:53pm On Jan 25, 2019
...thanks @sky2891. I think the summary there is there is likely to be market rally pre-election, election month and before swearing in. After this expect bear for the remaining year. Though the data used was few and could be not a good representation. So due diligence needed.

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Chibuking81(m): 4:08pm On Jan 25, 2019
Election bear must come in the month of February, we should not rule out market manipulations. Those remaining foreign investors who want to bail out will push the market high with force, and will also bail out with force. Smart Jijo group members will benefit from this movement.

Those doubting will see it in the next 14 days been 8 February, 2019. Massive bear will close the market. huh Bonanza, bonanza, bonanza grin grin grin grin

Well noted. Since prices lead events/information in the market, it means the market is trying to tell us something about the elections outcome then. This was just my thought earlier in the day.

Election is dull, no violence, no tension
So the uncertainty is much reduced

This will be another danger in the Nigeria Democracy. This shows that our Judicial is not independent.
If there is impeachment move against Mr president, will he step down?
This will creat a great fear towards 2019 general election.
This news will affect NSE market.
